#171 Re: Guns N' Roses » The Final Comeback of Axl Rose (CQ, 2006) » 642 weeks ago
Thanks for posting that, great read. And I remember the 2006 show at Hammersmith Odeon, London UK, first show in the UK for a long time. It was so tense in those couple of hours before he hit the stage, people saying he wasnt gonna show, that he was still at the hotel, the boos were going on, people were pissed off so bad, then he hit the stage and the place just erupted, it was amazing!
I was standing next to Tony Alva, waiting for what seemed like ages, and not realising it was actually Tony Alva, and made a complete cock of myself when I drunkly prodded his Alva t-shirt and proclaimed "Yeah man, I remember Alva skateboards, I had one when I was 12, they fucking ruled!".....then he handed me his business card, Alva.....Tony Alva...fuck man, I looked at him, shit, I felt like an utter douche....but then Axl came out, Welcome To The Jungle, who now give a shits about Tony Alva? I didnt, rock on !

Pretty cool. I can hear Axl in that last scream, that's for sure.

Obviously he's only human but I think if he came out in 2006 style shape and form vocally people would be more likely to tolerate no-slash - but no slash then you make people wait and you're not on your A game and people will call you on it.
Yeah, that's the beef right there. The level he is at now overall seems a million miles away from 2006. Shame, I really enjoyed the 2006 performance, looks, and effort he put in.

I said a long time ago that the "regular" people would never accept this lineup. Having seen them, I can say they are damn good, but it's missing the "vibe" or whatever you want to call it that Slash brings as much as Slash's shows are missing the charisma that Axl brings (regardless of whether he is in good voice).
I agree with you, they are a damn good band, and that's not gonna matter to regular festival goers, and its not gonna change, no matter what they do, I think that even with new music, the way music is consumed now, radio/tv/cable/internet whatever, the view of the regular guy wont change, unless Slash and Duff are up there with him on stage.

Not that uncommon for musicians. Christ, check out Glam-tera.
Yeah, google Pantera and Glam - if you havent seen their early photo's, here's a link. http://bit.ly/Zj9etR
I was interested to see what came up for DJ when I searched for early pics of him. Only a few without makeup, without hats and lots of tats. And to be fair I went and listened to some of the tracks off Addicted To Friction to see what they are like (you can find them on YouTube). They are pretty dated, instrumental guitar tracks. Some shred. I mean, I couldnt play anything near that for shit, so fair play to him imo. Its his first solo effort from 1996, so the look kinda fits that really.
I actually thought he looked a lot like early Dizzy in that album cover pic.
As much as I would like to bag on DJ, as he can be an easy target, he did pack his bags and move to the city when he was 18, with dreams of becoming a rock star, and here he is tonight, on stage with Axl, props for that.

I understand why some people don't like DJ's image as it's a sort of a blend of a few things and over the top.
But I gotta say - he made my night when we were up the front at the aussie tour - really seems to put his all into the show, and I'm really curious to see what he'd do with Axl musically.
I have nothing against the guy at all, and I've nothing particularly bad to say about him either. I guess its just without at least hearing him adding something to new music from GnR, I dont have much interest in what he has to say.
Monkey, your later post on GnR PR issue, yeah, thats what I am feeling right now. Heard it all, seen it all before, right now. Unless they throw some other old or new tunes into their upcoming live shows, or release something then there's nothing new to me.
Looking forward to Duff's documentary more than anything right now.

See, here's the thing, I saw this posted on Blabbermouth a day or so ago, and just couldnt be arsed to listen to it.
My own apathetic reaction to it pissed me off. I just dont give a shit what he has to say, about anything.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this....
Unreleased footage and GNR do not get said together very often.
Indeed, I'm sure this'll sell like hot cakes. I wonder if Axl had to allow sign off on a load of the footage?
