#311 Re: Guns N' Roses » Slashing CD to 45 mins » 199 weeks ago
I’d just take Scraped out. Absolutely shithouse song with absolutely horrid cut paste vocals.
The rest can stay, minus the pointless intros (CD, Riad, TWAT), and the album looks immediately better, pun intended.

I just can't get into this generic cock rock stuff he has hung his hat on. The solo album in 2010 with the myriad of different singers was the last time he sounded remotely inspired (bar Absurd and Hard Skool) - make's me wonder if there were a host of professional song writers in behind the scenes - it of course helps having A-list singers and producers on deck
I thought there were quite a few duds on that Slash album though. I doubt he used outside writers to end up with crap like I Hold On.
But I do like this new SMKC single. And it sounds more organic than the new (old) GN’R songs, even with the tempo changes.

Did Slash imply that nothing was done with GN’R? He implied that nothing new has been written, but that recording the old stuff is it’s own thing. Like as in, that will come out first before writing new songs. That isn’t necessarily bad, it just means that Axl wants that out first.
And maybe re-recording of the CD2 stuff is done?

Because Slash is running the ship with a great team behind him (which I assume is now Gibson), and they’ll want to make sure this new album is presented as best it can be for their investment.

It was brought to my attention that at 2:32 mark coming out of the solo, is the Withered Delilah riff, and it totally sounds like it, or at least very similar!
Slash plagiarising himself perhaps…?

Well, it’s 3am here, I just woke up and I’m listening to this here in Australia.
Initial thoughts after first listen, I really dig it. It’s certainly different to what I was expecting.
A chugging, groovy rocker for the most part, with some oddly jarring tempo changes for the solo sections, but I like that Slash is going off in those parts.
Much, much better than Driving Rain, which I’m using as comparison, as that was the first single from the last album.
Myles sounds pretty good too. The verse melody sounds similar to another song, but I can’t quite place what song it is.
Production sounds pretty good too. Nice and chunky.
I really wish they’d fix that fucking snare sound. Slash hasn’t had a great Sorum sounding cracking snare on any of his albums, and it makes the songs suffer because of that. To my ears anyway.
Lastly, it looks like the album is called “4” and The River is Rising opens the album.

New single will be up for streaming in Australia in a little over 3 hours. Looking forward to hearing this!

As much as we’d like Slash to move on to someone else from Myles, I don’t think it’ll happen. Myles is a nice guy, reliable, talented, and a true professional. That’s all pluses in Slash’s eyes.
I’d love to see someone grittier singing over Slash’s solo songs, but I think Myles is here to stay.
