Super confusing how there's different stuff in every edition and even the super deluxe is missing stuff.

I'm getting old to have to concentrate like that lol.

Great that we got this stuff though. 91/92 band sounds amazing!

I really wish they’d added some ‘93 stuff. Band was on fire plus the acoustic set

I have no doubt that Disney is making shitty woke remakes of classic animation (which are truly pieces of art) because they’re going to eventually throw them in the vault at some point, and will probably erase Walt as a visual presence from the company.

This is exactly they reason they are remaking their movies. There’s no reason to do so other than that these will be the “correct” version and replace the originals

I read a report a month or so ago, Disney is considering changing its name to Disney officially and also changing Walt Disney World to Disney World. So yes, he’s been cancelled.

Yeah...this is my recollection as well.

Fans wanted videos and due to no KOHD video, they had to whip one up out of the Ritz show.

I'll never forget that wacky MTV contest where you could win Axl's condo since he had to get away from his neighbor from hell.

It got a lot of attention...and while it's not an album highlight, kinda surprising in hindsight that they didn't do some kind of MTV promotion with Right Next Door to Hell when it was finally released.

Im kinda surprised RNDTH (say in an edited version omitting the “fuck you”) was never considered for a single. I mean, they released Garden of Eden as a single. Would argue Next Door was more radio friendly than Garden of Eden.

The single selection 91-93 definitely left much to be desired.

A lot of things probably influenced the decisions....

Izzy leaving ruined any potential of Dust N Bones, 14 Years, or Double Talking Jive as singles/videos

I always had a feeling DNB would've been a single...sandwiched between Don't Cry and Live and Let Die.

The grunge explosion had to have influenced things on some level...even if just from a label standpoint.

That tour was never ending and this would impact when songs might get the video treatment and more importantly.... when... example...

The Garden deserved to be a single much earlier than it was. By the time it was, nobody cared.

Too much focus/attention on the epic bloated video trilogy (DC, NR, Estranged).

Those had massive budgets.

I'll say it til my dying day...

DTJ.shouldve been a single... even if they have to go in and record with Axl on lead and release it as a double A side with a UYI track. It was the only UYI deep cut treated like a hit on the three year tour.

There had to be plans for it at some point.

DTJ should absolutely have been and I think was planned to be a single. They made it almost a centerpiece of the live act; I think they had plans for it.

This was an aggressive song with melody, a pop groove, very similar to the best of AFD.

It could absolutely have done really well on rock radio, and shown GNR were still “street” and could ha had a wicked video with gory imagery and insane crap, Axl couldve cone up with a twisted video

And as I said before, a sanitized RNDTH would’ve been an amazing summer release single. Say, early June 1991. Get kids in the skate parks. Aggressive and heavy - GNR is back!

Also, Ain’t it Fun should’ve been released as a standalone single in around May 1992.

Most casual fans didnt know it was a cover. It had a very grungy sound and feel to the guitars with a more grungy lower key vocal by Axl.

It absolutely would’ve fit in with the Seattle / AIC type stuff and showed GNR as more than capable of adapting to the evolving landscape

To non-musicians and casual-fans you can replace stuff like rhythm guitar and drums and it doesn't matter

But that wasn't really the problem here.

The biggest issue after he walked out the door was losing your songwriter.

Rhythm guitar players are a dime a dozen....Grade A songwriters are priceless and irreplaceable.

It's 2022 and he still hasn't been replaced.

I think that's what tricked Axl into thinking he'd get away with replacing the whole band for a while. But it turns out Slash was not someone you can swap out so easily

Neither was Izzy.

Here here.

The Nirvana community tends to do this a lot - they do remasters of say, In Utero songs in a Nevermind style - or mock-ups of Do Re Mi to sound like the band - or like, someone did this really cool remaster of You Know Youre Right to sound like Steve Albini mixed it

I kinda wish we had this sort of vibrancy in our community. Imagine like, a remake of YCBM for instance using a Steven drum track (from his performances of the same) together with rough guitar tracks (maybe live) combined with Axl’s vocal track. A lot of work, but if we had really dedicated fans we really wouldn’t need to depend on this depressing band for new - or remixes or remasters of - songs

Of course even if fans did do this kinda cool stuff some inbred Alabama fucker working at the behest of an insane and insanely bitter and vile Brazilian housekeeper would copyright strike them so what am I even thinking?

U want UYI 3? Listen to Pawnshop Guitars, It's 5 O'clock Somewhere and Beleive in Me ... maybe throw in This I Love, There Was A Time and Catcher in the Rye

Hard Skool is ... not like any of that

Hard Skool to me strikes me as sounding very similar to the descriptions by Slash, Duff, Matt as to the material they were working on in the mid 90s. The intro is not dissimilar from a YCBM / AFD style dramatic guitar intro, the rhythm sounds like a 90s era Slash thing, and the first solo (the bluesy style one) to me sounds like it could’ve fit off Aint Life Grand

Bear in mind I think it’s very “GNR by numbers” but I do not at all see any grunge sound to it

Just saying Its probably time to work on some music that is relevant to current times

Kids aren't interested in hard skool and absurd...a grunge style rocker and industrial dance music...my kids like afd stuff and when i played them the new songs they were like nope, why are these songs so bad?

it's nowhere near the sound of shit that is played on radio or in Spotify playlists rn

Why not try something in the vein of Greta van fleet or rival sons? Probably be easier for Axl to pull off live...his falsetto is gone...just admit it, rearrange the hits into a more midrange voice for live performances...reinvent yourself

Or give it up

How is Hard Skool a grunge rocker? It sounds like a song that would’ve fit on a UYI III

Axl always struck me as a relatively bright guy despite being not educated and poor and shit. He seemed to be pretty down to Earth at one time and really not into bullshit

That being said, attractiveness aside it always has struck me as kinda odd how as such he got so fucking enamored with Stephanie fucking Seymour and then replaced her with Jenny Driver. I mean, Stephanie doesn’t exactly seem like she was a brain surgeon, and let’s be honest - fame aside - she was way out of his league.

He was this scrawny not really conventionally attractive, average height guy going with these 6 foot tall almost preternaturally beautiful blondes, and Stephanie left him right as GN’Rs popularity was beginning to flame out in 1993. He got so hooked on her but I kinda doubt a chick like that ever saw a long term future with someone like him.

Even Erin Everly, she may not have been in the same strata or whatever as Stephanie, but she was a Guess Jeans model. She also from the interviews with her didn’t seem exceedingly bright herself

Just weird how he never had a girl who was more like, on his level be it looks wise or attitude or intellect wise. The dude wanted so badly to be one of the “beautiful people” at one time

When it was rumoured that Erin was at the show, I always hoped for Axl’s sake, that he and Erin could have gotten back together, or at least made peace.

I think that may have helped Axl greatly from how heartbroken he was from Stephanie.

Beta would never allow that. As long as Beta and Fernando are in Axl’s life, he will never have another significant romantic relationship. He will never have children. These would be a threat to the Lebeis’ inheritance. I can almost guarantee Beta has probably (without Axl knowing) sabotaged relationships that got **too** serious for her liking since 1994. It’s too risky to her and her kids’ position for Axl to have a real family.
