All I know is they'd best nail it if they do perform, they could sink the buzz real quick by sucking a la RIR 2011 or Neil Young show.
You're right. I think in RIR 2011 Axl was the weak link. He seemed tired and out of practice.
It looks like he has some confidence in his voice now which might mean its all trained up and good to go. I'm basing that totally on his willingness to audition for AC/DC. A singer needs serious confidence to audition for that gig.
So if he is together Slash and Duff will bring it too. I saw Axl in 09 and he was excellent. I saw Duff in 2011 and he was excellent and saw Slash in 2013 and he was excellent. Those are all fairly recent dates, so if they can bring what they've been bringing over the past 5 years, it will be an excellent show.

Is this not a common enough occurrence? Bands book tours all the time and then do some one off club gigs for a small group of hardcores and press.
You know, if this is actually happening surely people on the official gnr fan site would be aware? I'd imagine they would be given first choiice on tickets.
Wait a minute.... Just checked the official site.
Something is happening.

It would be hilarious if this turned out to be an Axl/DC show.

DCK, I seem to be stacking up these near misses! I was in Paris the day of the Charlie Hebdo attacks, I was in LA when San Bernardino happened, I took the Thalys the day that attack was foiled... Oh, and my birthday is September 11th... go figure!
Good to hear you are okay. That is one scary list of near misses you've got. I bet you're on a watch-list somewhere just for having been so close to so many atrocities.

When it was just Axl, Izzy was fine playing randomly. When it was Axl and Duff, no Izzy. But now, ALL OF THE SUDDEN, Slash is back and Izzy wants back in full time. So I guess Slash alone makes this real GNR enough for Izzy to protest it. Pretty powerful. It took Slash to return for Izzy to give a fuck.
Is part of him jealous because he convienently could play both sides with all former members and be nomad, and now that may be over. Slash comes back suddenly his wants his role increased. Something isn't adding up.
I think there is something here. Make up for lost time because not it really is legit in his eyes. The Slash factor is powerful.
I'm sure there is something to it all but at the same time I think we're over thinking it.
I doubt we'll ever know.

You obviously are one of those fans who takes the whole "sides" thing a bit too seriously.
Nope. I'm one of those fans who sacrasms.
Axl has a history of stage fright - fact.
This has led to insane shit with gigs starting hours late or not at all - fact.
It has caused the injury of fans and employees with the violence that has ensued - fact.
Axl has had voice troubles in recent times- fact.
If he is worried about that while now finding himself back under the same level of public attention as the UYI days he could have a meltdown - pure conjecture but not unfounded.I hope the guy nails the fuck out of it and slays the critics.
Slash is not "my boy" , he's a guitar player I particularly admire - nothing more.Your thinking is yesterday's news, tired, done to death and boring. I wish all of these guys the very best. I want them to destroy every other act out there right now.
Regarding the guitar playing on CD, most of it is pretty standard with a few wanky finger tricks on the guitar that 99.9999999% of the world won't even register as missing.
Give me a soulful Slash solo anyday.
Cool

polluxlm wrote:The Weiland bashing is often political. Some people just don't like what alternative rock represented.
His skill and the range of feeling he could put in his voice was second to none. His writing was top drawer world class stuff.
He knew how to not be cheesy and how to subvert the cliches of rock n roll just enough that his songs felt fresh but still had that rock n roll vibe. A true master. That's a thing, bashing alt rock? Jesus...
Well that is my impression I could be wrong. I've seen some hard-rock purists who will only respect AC/DC, GNR, Maiden, and the other big hard hitters. The alternative stuff they tend to shrug off as inauthentic.
His writing may have been good in STP, or fit that music, but in VR I don't see it. His major achievement was not sounding bad like Slash' other singers. His voice is pretty decent for a rock singer, but the match with VR didn't strike me as very organic. That type of band is screaming for a vocalist with an impressive range.
I think in terms of best people Slash has played with, after Axl, Rod Jackson set the standard.
#138 Re: Guns N' Roses » DJ ASHBA 'Couldn't Be Happier' About Partial Reunion Of GUNS N' ROSES' » 491 weeks ago
Just confirming what we all knew was coming. With Crue retiring, Nikki was going to start touring Sixx:AM and going full-time with it. DJ was either going to be on board or not. And the reality is, DJ has a really good home in Sixx:AM. Axl was never going to use him in GN'R.
Either way, it worked out for the best. Hopefully GN'R fans will be able to enjoy new Slash-GN'R music, as well as new Sixx:AM music, and get double their pleasure.
I honestly, no shit, could easily see Sixx:AM opening for a GN'R reunion tour. It's not a bad opener. They're popular to younger rock fans. Nikki Sixx appeals to old GN'R/Crue fans, and DJ is former GN'R. Seems to all kind of fit the fabric.
It'd be ironic if it happened.
That would be great.
He mad some cryptic statements about leaving GNR to make room for a reunion on Twitter a while back if I'm not mistaken?
He could have been just jumping on the zeitgeist and claiming "Oh yeah I did that on purpose" however.
#139 Re: Guns N' Roses » Looks like rehearsals have started! » 491 weeks ago
While I know GNR are still under contract with UMG....I would LOVE for something to happen like NIN did with The Slip. Just out of the blue....BAM.....there is a GNR album(or a new song) ready to instantly download/stream on the official site.
It doesn't have to be free like The Slip was. Just unload it amidst all this hoopla.
I'd prefer an E.P.
No full album.
Just 5 new killer songs.
3 Studio Cuts and 2 excellent live recordings from the warm-up show.
Release it. Call it "Guns N Roses".
That's what I want.

I am delighted that the forums in general are lit up over this reunion and all the haters from both sides have quietly stopped the civil war.
I just hope Axl can face the level of expectation and overcome any bullshit stage fright and just get out there and enjoy this..
So. What you are saying is this:
"It's good the civil war has stopped. Now excuse me while a take a few shots."
Axl will bring it. I just hope your boy slash can up his game to Chinese Democracy level playing.
