It's a great read (thanks Russ), but I really think Slash kind of puts his foot in his mouth here.

And here's why, he basically admitted (if you are to believe Alan Niven) that he performed on Axl's UYI epics "for the money". He also let Doug Goldstein run wild, and played the game with Doug, to "keep things going".

Tis true.

It's not a black and white world, and many GNR fans would do well to appreciate this. Axl has his flaws, had his lapses of reason, his poor judgment, whatever. Asking Slash to man up a little and take responsibility for his own actions shouldn't take anything away for anybody else.

But it's better to be the victim and the media darling. Better not to admit he personally contributed to the sour times of both GNR and VR by escaping the band issues to his own drug world. Even a levelheaded person would have a hard time working with someone like that, and when you have Axl & Goldstein on the other end, you'll obviously get the heat.

I respect Slash as a musician and as a GNR member, but I've come to dislike his character all the more as years've went by. The pattern that is emerging is that of a man who sees problems and goes the other way. The latest example is Corey Taylor as opposed to Myles Kennedy.

And before Slashers go for my throat, I'd like to say I am more than aware of Axl being less than a saint, and my point is not to lower one person in order to elevate another.

My point is that while it seems ok (in the media and on the more open-minded GNR communities) to bash Axl for this, that and the other, saying a bad thing about Slash still feels a bit like a taboo.

I'm disillusioned, yeah. Neither VR or GNR is releasing anything soon, and only one of those situations can be attributed to Axl. I'm peeved at Axl because of his non-band, but I'm also peeved at the other person for the same reason.

Axl would do well to quit all pretensions & unload his archives as multitracks to the web. Throw in preferred mixes and do at least one track monthly. Charge $0.99 for a download, cause some folks still pay for music.

The stuff gets heard, the audiences are there.

Will they do it?

Of course not.

Axl should've skipped an official release.

The Rock Band multitracks gave some better mixes.

The leaked artwork is better than the retail one, by far.

As a DIY release, it would've had more glory to it.

+1.

This was my 3rd year organizing an alternative music festival back here at the Old World, and we've ran it from the start with a similar attitude. Never have the same group twice, shy off from the usual suspects.

In Europe, it's fairly easy to secure international headliners with existing fanbanses due to lesser distances. Bands move around more easily and are all the more affordable, as particularly the lower end caravans can always use a gig.

This increases the overall amount of international touring acts in Europe. Combine this with festivals abandoning the headliner idea as it has been.

The good thing is that, again, festivals win.

I get what you're saying, but.

Would Axl change his ways either way?

CD was late before Napster was unveiled.

Good for them, but.

Rio, Buenos Aires & Acunsion are on one side of the continent, Santiago & La Paz on another. That's a curiosity that stays with the Guns organization; they don't exactly go with the least possible carbon footprint.

Not trying to be a Negative Nancy, but they have their own ways of doing various things, no doubt about that.

#1589 Re: Guns N' Roses » 2011-12 Guns n Roses Tour » 771 weeks ago

The download aspect is valid, but Axl left the release for too long. Back in 2000, when the album was almost set to come out, he himself blocked the release. Jimmy Iovine & Axl had come to an agreement following the lukewarm reception of OMG that the album could use a more rocking edge, which (ironically) collided with Robin leaving for a NIN tour.

Robin himself claimed early on into the tour that he was set to return, only Axl started auditioning players first. At that point, Robin's stance got more degradatory. This sort of non-communication (and, hence, mutual misunderstanding) is nothing new in the organization, obv.

Anyway, back in 99/00, this was the big label album, which Interscope had just inherited from Geffen. It would've gotten all the push Iovine could've mustered, despite the quality. Finally, when they did get the Beavan album with an RTB flourish & Bucket solos together, A&R man Bob Ezrin was called into a listening and he said what Iovine & his crew had been hinting at all along.

A lot of that stuff wasn't just good enough.

Axl was devastated. The album was heading towards the holiday market of 2000. A world tour had been prepared, with big comeback performance set for Rock in Rio 3. In the preceding summer months, he'd made the impromptu appearance at Gilby's show, conquering his stage-fright due to so many years in between by fluke.

But yeah, fear of rejection and cottoning to a more pleasant version of reality (in which one is an undisputed genius, because nobody tells him otherwise) was what robbed us an album for another eight years.

Dubai was pretty much on cue as well.

Axl can be made to appreciate timetables, given the cost is right. Generally, if he feels he can sit out for a while, he will.
