JamesLofton - you can't criticize most of Axl's decisions, then claim to be "right" regarding Fortus.
with so many fuck-ups made by Axl regarding whose parts were included in these songs, isn't it a logical argument that the Fortus "nut-swingers" are actually correct? that fortus SHOULD have been featured more prominently?
i'm sorta just playing devil's advocate here, but certainly no Fortus fan is eating crow when the "proof" is based soley on the decisions made by Axl.

let's not start ridiculous arguments this week. we all have different tastes in music. there's no way to truly say one piece of art is better than another. it's all opinion.
with that said, one measuring stick is what do the masses believe. i think it's safe to say that the best songs on CD are better than the worst songs are UYI. but going any further than that is silly, IMO. i've recently given the illusion albums good straight through listens and they fuckin rock.
#153 Re: Guns N' Roses » BETTER: second single CONFIRMED » 878 weeks ago
The Blues is probably the most radio friendly ballad. alot of my friends over the years have really liked it - both die-hard and casual fans alike. it's probably the song that most resembles, or would fit in with, old gnr.
This I Love is my dark horse pick. it's got a great catchy melody. it would be a bold pick. although it may sound a little too 80's-ballad-ish to get put into regular rotation on today's rock stations.
#154 Re: Guns N' Roses » Rankings/comments on all the new songs » 878 weeks ago
alot of threads turn into discussions of the songs. i didn't see a thread dedicated to rating and/or ranking the songs, so i figured i'd start one.
Frame of Reference
first, i think it's important to state what your favorite gnr songs are. it'll give us a sense of old vs new fans....
i think AFD is the greatest album ever made. i love the illusion albums as well, but have a greater appreciattion for the raw and dirty feel of AFD. at least 6 of my fav gnr songs are off of AFD.Rankings of New Songs
1. TWAT
2. IRS
3. Chinese Democracy
Scraped
4. Shackler's Revenge
Sorry
5. Better
This I Love
6. If the World
7. CITR
8. Riayd
9. Prostitute
10. Madagascar
11. the BluesComments on New Songs
I'm a big fan of the songs overall. i think TWAT is one of the best gnr songs ever. I didn't like If the World at first, but it has really grown on me. i think it's a great song.i'm really high on my songs ranked 1-5. i would score each of them a 9 or a 10 (on a 10-point scale).
songs 6-8 would all be scored about an 8.
songs 9-11 would get a 6 or 7. i like the songs, but i never go out of my way to listen to them.
i was thinking about possible next singles and looked up my rankings. i added the final 3 songs to my rankings above.
i think releasing the title track as the first single was the right move. and following it up shortly with what many believe to be the most radio-friendly song is a good idea. this is a unique situation, and i think they need to expose people to a few songs out of the gate. whether that happens or not, we'll see.
CD has been well-received overall. i've heard alot of complaints about how his voice sounds, but almost everyone i talked to said after they heard it a couple times, they really liked it.
(for the record, i still love IRS and think that would be a great choice for radio. the old-time fans will love that song. )
#155 Re: Guns N' Roses » To Bucket, GNR is a 'dirty word' » 878 weeks ago
my guess would be all of the following...
1. not being the main and/or only lead guitarist while touring and recording.
2. having to record certain things over and over and over and over to make it "perfect."
3. not releasing material.
4. working with a band that is over-producing music.
5. being pressured into "hanging around" with no signs of anything of substance occuring in the near future.
6. being made the fall guy for a failed tour.
#156 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy Liner Note Discussions *EXTREME SPOILERS* » 879 weeks ago
there are 8 non-rockers on this album. ballads might not be the right term, but at the most there are 6 rockers. and for me, it's a stretch to call Better a rocker, but i am willing to acknowledge that it is.
the illusion albums were loaded with rockers.
i'm very disappointed with this, and i think alot of others will be as well. it's gonna get alot of "WTF!" reactions from people who are not familiar with this material.
#157 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy Liner Note Discussions *EXTREME SPOILERS* » 880 weeks ago
the only thing that surprises me is that people are actually surprised about anything related to this album.
the majority of these songs are old. the other 30+ songs are probably from 2001-present day. therefore, they will likely have a greater influence from the musicians that were around during this period.
i haven't looked at liner notes in years. but i was happy to see the great level of detail regarding who was involved in playing and piecing these songs together.
#158 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy Liner Note Discussions *EXTREME SPOILERS* » 880 weeks ago
a little too much "orchestral arrangements" and "drum programming" for my taste.
this is a 2001 album. it's a shame he couldn't release it then. IF there are future albums, maybe they will have more recent contributions.
#159 Re: Guns N' Roses » have the leaks killed the hype? » 881 weeks ago
the leaks have had no effect. i've heard several people give their opinion and not one has mentioned anything about the leaks. most of the public has no idea about the leaks.
the single is getting a TON of publicity. radio stations are dedicating entire segments of their shows to playing and discussing the song.
the promotion for the album has been decent as well. and i'm sure it will continue to increase. it is not just dropping with little fan fare as many have predicted.
#160 Re: Guns N' Roses » How does the new material rank against the old? » 882 weeks ago
i have to take back what i said early in this thread. i listened to UYI 1 during long drives last night and this morning. right now, i cannot see CD coming close to that or UYI 2. CD is too "ballady," and the rockers do not have the same raw aggression or blues-driven vibe that i prefer. Right Next Door To Hell, Double Talkin Jive, Perfect Crime, Garden of Eden....i wish there were a couple songs in the mold of any of these on CD.
