As much as I like Baz's voice, I don't want him to be in VR. But... what does Sebastian think? That when Axl choose to tour next time (whenever it'll be) he'll bring Baz with him again as the opening act? roll

It wouldn't surprise me if he did tbh.

I never got the hype for this show, it's quite popular over here and I watched the first few seasons cos everyone else did but I never found it half as funny as everyone else seemed to hmm

But apart from that and no new record, it was a pretty damn good year.

Apart from cancellations and no promised album it was a pretty damn good year? Not to sound like a cynic or put a dampener on things but I'm not really looking for much else from a band, tours and albums is what bands do, if they can't do that I'm not sure it qualifies as a good year.

I understand your sentiments completely, 06 was an exciting time, I saw the band and they were great, we got leaks, GNR was back in the spotlight etc so in that way it was a great year. Yet in other ways 06 was sadly the most dissappointing of the lot.

Ron's a super cool guy but by no means would I want Bucket's stuff replaced.  However I kind of lean toward the idea that Ron brought his own stuff to these tracks as an addition to what was already there and Bucket's will remain intact.  That scenario would be ok.

That's what I'm thinking too.

Great interview and it's great he's talking about GNR quite openly and honestly. It was nice to see him acknowledge CD as the elephant in the room and he understands why people ask the question.

darknemus leaked Madagascar, the track supposedly came from gnrsucks, but it was darknemus who leaked it to the forums.

Yeah if you plan on releasing a song and it wasn't written by you, then you need the artist who wrote the songs permission. In the case of the leaks I suspect nobody would get permission from Axl to record and release them as a song before he did. Nothing to stop a band performing them live though, VR could perform CD from start to finish (assuming they'd heard it) and Axl couldn't do anything about that. That's my understanding of it anyway.

Incidentally do you think GNR or whoever owns the back catalogue of GNR songs are quite strict on who can do a cover of the songs as their aren't that many released covers of GNR songs around that I'm aware of? Plenty of live renditions by artists of SCOM, WTTJ, Patience etc but very few seem to have been recorded and released.

The record label can't be going into this thinking how to recoup 13 mill because it won't happen not off one album. They will have known this for a long time, what they have to think is will the album make more money than the cost of releasing it. If it doesn't then they wouldn't release it if it will then it's worthwhile because any kind of return is better than nothing. Whilst it won't come close to making 13 mill if it can eat into that figure after cost of sales and promotion etc then from the labels point of view it's surely worth releasing.

In the current climate no album will make 13 mill from sales, as we know touring is the big earner for artists these days. I wonder if the labels trying to get in on some of the revenue for future GNR tours? I don't know much about this stuff but do labels already take a cut of artisits touring revenue or is it usually a seperate thing?
