GUNS N' ROSES: 'Shackler's Revenge' Artwork Revealed? - Aug. 20, 2008
According to writer Erin Fox, Microsoft has released an image to support GUNS N' ROSES' contribution to the upcoming Rock Band 2 video game, which will make its debut on Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system this September.
After 14 years since GUNS N' ROSES' last official music release, Axl Rose selected Rock Band 2 to debut official new track "Shackler's Revenge" from the highly anticipated album "Chinese Democracy".
The image in question, which can be seen below, may or may not be a preview of the artwork for the "Chinese Democracy" CD, which could see its long-awaited release before the end of the year.
Sources have told Billboard.com that "Chinese Democracy" may be released through an exclusive deal with a "big box" retail chain like Wal-Mart or Best Buy. Another source said that negotiations are underway for just such a release, with talks going on with conventional record companies for distribution as well. GUNS N' ROSES is managed by Front Line Management, whose head, Irving Azoff, successfully engineered the release of the latest EAGLES album, "Long Road Out of Eden", through Wal-Mart. Another long-awaited new album, AC/DC's "Black Ice", is coming out this fall exclusively through Wal-Mart.
There is still no official release date for "Chinese Democracy", which has been 14 years in the making. Representatives for GUNS N' ROSES, its label, Best Buy and Wal-Mart had no comment.
"Shackler's Revenge" is said to have leaked online last week. Nine other tunes from "Chinese Democracy", all allegedly finished recordings, were leaked online last June.

i got some feedback from some non-diehards for anyone that's interested...
i played SR for 7 people over the weekend. every one of them liked it right away, and a couple of them love it and believe it would be a huge hit on the radio. for the first time, a bunch of my friends are really interested in the status of the album. this song peaked their interest.
one of them is my wife who isn't a big gnr fan. she hates most of the new songs and thinks i've been brainwashed into liking them. but she absolutely loves this song.

i love walmart. and i don't give a damn where this album is sold. i'll be buying a few copies either way.
although i would be annoyed if only a "clean" version is available initially. cause then the "real" version would get released at somepoint and i'd be tempted to buy that as well.

i've listened to it a bunch of times. awesome song. i think this is my favorite of all the new songs.
my guess is that it's SR.

i hope this isn't prostitute. my guess is that it is not.

As much as people always talk about these songs being demos and how silly that gets with a 200 track pro tools set up going on...this song is one of those that feels 'unfinished' to me. Stylisticly I think the chorus melodies and heavier parts are really haunting and it's got a lot of potential to become one of the best GNR songs I think...but its maybe not there yet.
i agree. somewhere in there is a good song. there's some really cool aspects to it.
but in it's current form, it's average at best. i'm turned off as soon as i hear the shitty fake drums in the beginning.
IMO axl seems desperate to make "November Rain 2" and "bury" the original NR.
(and my opinion has nothing to do with who is on guitar - i'm not loyal to any one guitarist. i can barely tell who is on guitar most of the time. if it sounds good, i like it.)

his answer about the status of the album doesn't sound promising. i wonder if the label has issues with the songs - either number of songs, quality of the songs, etc. They may be pushing Axl to include some of the songs he is saving for future albums.
also, the comment about shackler's revenge ("about to be heard") seems as if there may not be any plans for an official release.
obviously, i'm just making wild guesses here, which is all any of us can do.

strat0 - gotcha. thanks! personally, i never really thought he was saying "prostitute." but there are others in these threads that are far better than i at determining lyrics.
neemo - no problem. thanks for putting that list together! i was telling some friends last weekend that there are 3-4 albums worth of songs and that we had heard at least 10 rumored titles. didn't realize it was actually more like 20 (plus the approx. 10 we have already heard).
