Its only a month away and not a peep from the band or management about the tour.
Its a bit of a shame really, I'm no marketing hotshot, but unless I'm mistaken stony silence is not the best way to get bums on seats hmm

Well DJ and Ron have said they're touring.  I know you're looking more for an official press release and a update on the bands website, but we know what the likelihood of that is.

Yeah cause when DJ and Ron twitter, the world stands to attention.

Theres still time to put the ground work to create a buzz around the tour, but if they really are going to go with the same worn out promotional tactics as before, I cant understand why anyone connected with the band thinks thats a good idea.

I feel like a nut for wanting to see the best possible outcome for all of their endevours, while its like they don t give a fuck, mediorce results from minimal effort is just fine and dandy. What ever happened to drive, ambition and pride?

#1863 Re: Guns N' Roses » how are the shows selling this time around? » 887 weeks ago

Surely if they are not selling enough tickets the tour could get pulled though? That would concern me cause I might not get to see a show.

But theres still time for them to start promotion and generate a buzz around the tour, its premature to label it a failure.
Get some singles out, make a website with lots of different types of media, do some press that doesnt revolve around finding colourful ways to bash Slash. Its not rocket science, I would have thought with the way the monumental album promotional campaign was recieved they might have realised that a fresher, more proactive style of campaign, would be just ever so slightly more effective.

I blame Azoff as well for a lot of shit, he gets an easy ride as if he is some all conquering hero cause the album came out, but I lost respect for him and his crew when that first draft album artwork was released to the public. If its not his, or one of his delegates, responsibility to be paying attention to small details like that, I dunno what is.

But isnt he some kind of concert mogul .i.e Mr Ticketmaster?? Surely he will want to pull out all the stops to make it as successful a tour as possible?

To put it simply, there aren't any hits floating around that sound like it at all.

To get a little more complicated, Axl's image in the eyes of pop culture is whiny, self-absorbed and disconnected from reality. And the Estranged video is still a quick joke on the pop cultural history radar. People would probably laugh at this song, say GnR is pussy music, and move on. It doesn't hit early enough or hard enough to be put out there on its own.

Thats why I'd release it along with a rocker, TIL is hardly going to appeal to the hard rock masses. But it might appeal to a lot of girlfriends big_smile
A fact that most people overlook when talking about GNRs past is, they got so popular not only cause of the music and attitude, but cause lots of women the world over wanted to fuck Axl. He was the biggest pop star on the planet for a few years.
TIL could turn on a "demographic" that the title track would have firmly turned off.
Plus I think the mood of the song fits this time of year perfectly, its always made me think of snow and dark evenings for some reason, it would be a great December release in time for the holidays.

Why not a good single choice?

It's just you.  That's because you wish they would update the site and somehow Axl heard you in your head and asked personally that the gnr site does that to you.  There lesson learned.  Don't be so demanding.  19

Weird, its only that page that does it, you might be on to something...

How do people feel about this song now?

Lately I have been playing it all the time, I'm in love with the whole vibe/mood of the song. I think the piano, the orchestra and Axls vocals are stunning, I cant decide if I like his low singing voice or the high voice at the chorus best. I think mabye the low, I just love the way he says some of the words really softly. But there are a few moments in the latter choruses where he is singing high and you can hear his voice cracking a little with effort and emotion, I think that sounds incredible also.

I think it would make for a successful single, if this and a more rockin song from the album, were released with videos to coincide with the tour it could not only be good for the tour but could shift some more copies of the album.
I know thats been said before time and again by everyone and their dog on the forums, but its still relevant coz gnr havnt actually went out and pushed the album yet. The tour is great news and surely its the perfect opportunity to do some of those cool things they told us they had planned when the album came out.
Isnt it?

I'd love to be able to download a pro mastered recording of all the shows they play, it would be helluva special to get one of the show you had attended in particular.
I'd love for them to start doing a lot of simple things for the fans as well, open dialogue from time to time, i.e. updating the website, would be a breath of fresh air.
5 weeks tonight till they hit the stage, it would be awesome if they have something up their sleeve to generate some positive publicity.
