Been waiting for someone to whip this up.
#12 Re: Guns N' Roses » Axl: I would play the new songs but haven't received a marketing plan » 22 weeks ago
Axl struggled - his mid-range is deteriorating.
Wish he'd just abandon the idea of doing the high notes and just fully commit to singing in a lower register where he still has power. Build the setlist out of songs that are in that range – It's So Easy, Bad Obsession, Mr Brownstone etc – and rework the others to sit in that range like he did with Nightrain and Estranged at that one London gig where he was ill. Obviously you'd have to keep SCOM and probably Paradise City in the line-up, but two songs isn't going to be too taxing.

Collab when
If Bucket came out on stage at a show it would be maybe the biggest bone they could throw to forum junkies (looking at you, James)…honestly if they brought Bucket out for an extended dueling TWAT solo I’d be more interested than how the current band reworked village leaks.
That would be absolutely insane. The chance to hear TWAT played live, properly...
Also, it's kind of funny that there *hasn't* been a Slash/Buckethead collaboration, given their shared passion for horror movies and the like.

Idly wondering – apropos of nothing – what a setlist tailored to Axl's lower register would look like. Obviously you could transpose some of the songs as he did at that London show where he was ill, but is it possible to actually put together a decent setlist that wouldn't murder his vocal cords?

Wonder if this might help Axl...

Yes but the quality...
That's the thing
Read the book ... Think it was the Mick wall one where they listen to the snakepit and the guy goes
From 11 tracks we are about 11 tracks from having an album
The riffs are great but there's no quality control on the lyricsI think monsters is one of the best things they've ever done
Meanwhile... I can't remember one song from the solo albums that have come out
Be fair, some of the stuff on Duff's solo albums is great. Tenderness, Chip Away and Don't Look Behind You could all have gone on a GN'R album if they'd simply had Axl singing the same lyrics and whacked a Slash solo on them. (I loved the Walking Papers albums, they may be the best stuff Duff has ever done, but I get the feeling that's very much a Jeff Angell project with Duff laying down some bass tracks).
Slash's solo albums have some good riffs on them, but Myles' lyrics and delivery set my teeth on edge, mostly. I quite liked Wicked Stone. Anastasia's very good musically, but – crucially – doesn't feel like it'd sit comfortably on a GN'R album, with its Bach-esque scales.
Axl does sometimes go overboard a bit on the production side of things, but it does make the modern GN'R stuff musically interesting, as with Monsters, The General, and the intro from CoTR. Left to his own devices Slash seems perfectly happy just belting out rock riffs and letting the singer do whatever over them; Axl's the one adding the woo-woo fairy dust of movie dialogue samples and mad industrial synths that elevate the tracks.

So it doesn’t sound like it was really up to Frank. That’s what I figured. It still seems like an odd decision after 19 years. I mean if he’s not the man for the job, why did he last so long? He’s even been playing with Slash & Duff for almost a decade now. Are they just now realizing the chemistry isn’t there? I feel bad for Frank in that sense. Seems like it was a surprise to him and he was preparing for the tour.
Well, going by Matt's autobiography Duff wasn't keen on Frank from the off. So it's probably just that it took this long to get to the point where Slash and Duff were sufficiently settled in the band that they could go, "Get rid of this guy" without Axl pitching a fit and nuking the reunion.
#18 Re: Guns N' Roses » Isaac Carpenter is the new drummer » 30 weeks ago
Well, he's played in Duff's band so you'd hope the chemistry is there – and the interplay between the bass and drums is the most important factor. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out!
Cue everyone frantically looking up clips of Loaded playing GN'R songs...

Who’s next? Most likely they already know who it is, they’re just not showing their cards yet.
I mean, this is GN'R. Historically you find out who's in the band on the opening night of the tour, that's what happened with both Bumblefoot and Melissa. The only band member who got a formal announcement press release was Ashba, and (with my cynical hat on) that was probably because Ashba had the marketing nous to push for it.

Hoping for Sorum/Adler, reality is it’s probably someone we’re not expecting, and who knows if Brain has changed his tune?
Josh Freese could still be a possibility, even if it’s just these shows this year. Foo Fighters aren’t doing anything anytime soon, as far as I know. I think Grohl is still hiding from the public due to his infidelity.
I remain genuinely baffled that Grohl's infidelity is an issue. He's a rock star, for crying out loud, it's practically in the job description.
