A leading hearing technology boss reports that AC/DC’s Brian Johnson has been in touch with him, after a social media campaign was launched to make a meeting happen.
The hearing technology boss who vowed to help AC/DC’s Brian Johnson return to live performance says the pair will meet next week, following an online campaign Johnson was forced to stop touring earlier this year under the threat of permanent deafness – but Stephen Ambrose, head of in-ear monitor makers Asius Technologies, vowed he could help the veteran singer return to the stage.
Now Ambrose says the pair will discuss the situation next Tuesday (May 17). He reports: “Due to everyone’s tremendous support, Brian and I spoke yesterday. What a gracious man. He and his wife invited me to visit them next week.
“If anyone deserves to benefit from my research it’s Brian, who’s been giving incomparable performances for years, despite increased hearing loss.
“I’m going to do my utmost to see if our breakthroughs can help him. If I’m successful I’m sure Brian will let everyone know.
“Please pray for our success next week.”
This meeting was supposed to happen a few days ago. Has there been any word from Brian about how it went (or if it even occurred)?

Given the fact GN'R has been a part time job for him over the last 20 years, I don't see any reason why he can't do both. Spend a year doing GN'R stuff and then a year doing AC/DC stuff. Flip back and forth between them. It's crazy that the two schedules overlapped this year, but they can fix that in the future.

IMHO the record company deserves more blame than anyone. They release absolute garbage every week and they rejected Axl's work, which just made him even less likely to try releasing the music in a timely manner.

Just made the mistake of looking at some YouTube comments for a Hells Bells video from the Lisbon show. The amount of anti-Axl delusion is unbelievable. The man is certainly polarizing. He has the delusional sycophants who refused to acknowledge when he screwed up and now he has the delusional haters who refuse to acknowledge when his vocals are pretty solid. It's like being in the Twilight Zone or something.

The NBA interview still haunts me.
Yeah, there was something wrong with him around that time. Cancer, weird virus, etc. He did not look healthy.

I don't think he was shocked. I think he tried to sing higher and cleaner, like the outro of Rocket Queen. He lost that ability for a while but on the 99 Live Era vocals he nailed it in studio. That is one of his best vocals ever recorded.
I will have to check that out. Pretty hard to beat the original Appetite ending of Rocket Queen (his greatest moment IMHO).

The lack of smoking definitely played a part but I believe that the main reason for the change in his voice is because of the fact that he basically stopped singing altogether for a few years and thus lost it without knowing how to get it back.
Yes, I think lack of smoking and the Howard Hughes reclusive period of no performances (1994-2000) combined to kill what we knew as the classic Axl voice. When he returned in early 2000's, I bet he was pretty shocked at how different his voice was too.

I agree with this. But not in a negative way.
I think he just liked to experiment and make use of all his different voices, keep them all trained in.
Also, another possibility could be the oxygen tent.
Axl supposedly had an oxygen tent at all guns shows since at least 2006.
There's a behind the scene video which shows his oxygen tank.
Being in the throne he can't get near his oxygen and I think that has really helped his voice.
Maybe Mother Goose was slipping some helium into the old O2 supply to liven things up a bit...
He was using oxygen during the UYI Tour and was raspier than ever. It's all about the smoking in my opinion. He quit after UYI Tour and it showed up in his voice when he returned from Howard Hughes reclusive time period.

The fact he quit smoking in the mid-90's must play a role. He has to try harder for the rasp when he isn't smoking.
