#2461 Guns N' Roses » How can GNR fans possibly be "AGAINST a reunion? » 812 weeks ago

Let me apologize in advance for this thread. This isn't meant to be another billion reunion threads started over the years, but in light of Duff playing last week, I see so many people vehemently against a reunion.

You should see some on other message forums, talking how they don't want a "Stupid" reunion and how they hope this doesn't make people talk about a reunion etc.

I don't get it, honestly i dont. This has nothing to do with old band, new band, which side of the line u are on, but if u are a true Guns N Roses fan, why wouldn't you want to see, if nothing else, a one off kinda gig?

I'm sure I am not the first to say this, but I honestly believe, either most people on message forums, didn't become fans till Greatest Hits, OR they are Axl Rose fans, not Guns N Roses fans.

I can relate in some ways, cause I got into Kiss once the original lineup was done, so I 've always appreciated Eric Carr WAYYY more than Peter Criss and I even loved how Bruce Kulick expanded on Ace's solos and Bruce was my favorite guitarist in my younger teen years. Only as I've gotten older did i understand the contributions and importance of Ace and Peter.

Remember i guess it was the Del James interview rant where he said a reunion wouldnt happened and thats been reiterated by one man over the past however many years..

kinda sounded to me like Slash was the reason we didn't have a reunion. I almost think Axl would do it on his terms with the old guys employees kinda like how the new guys are but Slash wouldn't come back unless he got his piece of GNR back and once he wanted that, the other guys followed suit THUS he being a cancer.

what this did in my opinion is make the rock and roll hall of fame way more realistic. He could possibly stomach Slash for a few songs. What kinda sucks with the Duff thing ,we really didn't get the HUGE payoff.

When Axl introduced Duff and told the story.. Duff u could tell wasn't sure if he should go over and hug Axl or what.. u could tell he was indecisive and he took a step or two towards Axl then stopped, kinda looked... kinda awkward and then left. Axl didn't really acknowledge him other than looking at him singing the break ur heart in two line...

no shit Sherlock, thanks for business 101....beer sales, merchandise, etc...no WAY in holy hell VR and all the other side projects come close.

Beer sales don't go to the band. And no way in hell the side projects spend anywhere near what gnr does. Gnr probably outspends them in salary alone. You're still ignoring the equation and only looking at sales.

It is all in the deal they cut with the promoter and venue. The costs are astronomical.... I am sure. However, I still think the profit margins are alot larger due to the sheer volume being so much bigger. Those side musicians don't get near the cut that the Illusion band did. You can guarantee that. Axl gets the lion share night in and night out.

Like D said, don't underestimate the power of the brand name. Ask Roger Waters how important it is. He said the biggest mistake he ever made in the biz was not getting the Pink Floyd name. You can bet your ass Slash and Duff wish they had it.:peace:

ps, either way, we don't know the details so we'll never know for sure...just my opinion obviously.

Spot on with the Axl gets the lions share. this is why a reunion won't happen as well. If Axl can sell out arenas and make millions of dollars and calls all the shots unchallenged with this version, why would he go back to splitting even with 4 other guys? Just guessing, i have no evidence, proof or what have u, pure speculation and pulling numbers completely out of my ass, but one would assume, if GNR made 1 million a show, I guarantee Axl takes at least 50 percent and the other 7 guys get 7 percent or so apiece.

As Axl said, sure reunion would do bigger numbers in the US than the new band, but Axl isn't hurting for money or audiences in the overseas markets. So really, how much more money would he make overseas with the new band? Would they sell 5 nights at the 02 instead of 2?

still though, once u factor in Axl's lion share now compared to what his share would be to reunite... He would probably make more now or at least the same and that isn't worth the headache or giving up the control.

yeah some idiots were saying how Duff couldn't contribute to today's GNR... I had to set them straight but hell, maybe they are right... no one can contribute to a band who doesn't release music that often.

if that is true, and honestly, I'd say it is, they definitely have to pay some fees for running over curfew, thats roughly 50k a show.... imagine a tour with 100 shows.. thats 5 milllion lost for nothing. Thats a big chunk of dough.

My best friend is in love with Aaron Rodgers. We argue all the time cause I think Rodgers isn't a winner. just doesn't have that intangible quality to pull a win out.

Remember when Slash reportedly told Beta or whoever answered the door that Duff was spineless.........

Bet he will really believe that now.Duff did kind of betray Slash in a way.

For the who won argument, tough to say. A built in brand goes a long way. Look at Vince Neil for instance. In Motley they sell out arenas everywhere, when he does his solo shit, he fills a club. same with Bret Michaels.

So u can't under estimate that name recognition. It brings in the casual nostalgic crowd.

For Instance, if Whitesnake came to Chattanooga, I'd go but to be honest I'm a less than casual fan and i know David Coverdale but he could be backed by a bunch of Jamaicans and I wouldn't know the difference if it were real band or not.

Not trying to insult certain members on this forum, but a lot of u just don't "Get it"

What i said,for whatever reason, doesn't register.

It doesn't matter what hardcore internet fans think. To us, its a nice little one off gift. but Rolling Stone had that shit on their website probably before the concert was even over.  Other musical news outlets reported it and they all ask the same question "Does this mean a full fledged reunion?"

It undermines all the hard work and all the hurdles the new band have had to jump, and it undermines all the hard work Axl has put into getting people to accept this new band. Finally people aren't chanting "We want Slash" finally the new guys are getting credit for their skill but all this does is re-light that reunion match with napalm.

I'm sorry some can't understand the ramifications of that. in that aspect, having old members onstage is dumb. Exciting, I am all for it personally, but in the grand scheme of GNR, it's a terrible idea.

Duff onstage is WAYYYYYYYY bigger than having Izzy and I'll tell u why

1.Axl and Izzy are childhood friends,so its understandable things becoming cool with them

2.Duff still plays in a band with Slash.. Duff also struck me as the mediator/go between with Axl and Slash

3. Duff filed the same lawsuits as Slash.. so if Duff is welcomed back...

4. Duff and Slash are sober now. I still contend the band fell apart once those two got hooked on drugs/alcohol.  ever been sober and had to hang out with a bunch of drunks/druggies? it isn't fun. They are sober now.... Slash may come up in conversation and Duff can kinda mention how much Slash has changed since cleaning up.

before this, I would've put a reunion at a 5 percent possibility. After this.. I gotta bump it up to at least 25 percent chance now.

That being said, I'm not saying Axl fires the new band and the old make records and tour and shit.
I'm talking a once off series of farewell gigs, rock n roll hall of fame performance.. something to that level.
