the purpose of this thread is that you give your opinion on how its gonna be The General and what do you think of the large number of ballads in the album

I usually don't say it, but I kept going on and on about this back in 01, 02 and 03 at some other forum and I can proudly say now, "I told you so".
The hype was bigger than the Universe itself. It could not be met. Period.
I said in 02 that the album would be met with different categories of people.
First category is the people who hate it because they decided to hate it when they found out Axl continued on with the name. Sort of like a kid decides to hate daddys new wife because she's not mom. It's pretty retarded.
Second category is the people who expected a musical revelation not even matched by resurrection of your favorite religious character. It can't be met. There's a few of those around too. Being whiny because they had such high expectations and have to listen to an over-kill studio version of Madagascar.
Third category is the people who have some rational thinking left. To judge the music for what it is based on what it is. These can easily be spotted when reading reviews.
CD ain't AFD II, there is no Slash, it might have some UYI influences, but ultimately it's a totally different beast.
Actually, I was listening to some Illusion stuff back to back to the epics on CD and I was surprised how close they are to each other. The piano version of November Rain vs This I Love...it's like the songs are brothers.
It's the rockers that are just so different in comparison to GNR's past stuff.

Axl said they had learned the songs just 20 minutes before arriving at the club. Before 'I.R.S.', Axl asked the band if they felt like trying it even though they hadn't rehearsed it, and Tommy screamed out "I'm fucking fearless, I'll try anything!" The set list is correct, although not necessarily in that order. At the end, Axl came back out and said, 'I forgot to do something because I'm a fucking idiot,' before bringing Rosario Dawson out on stage and leading the audience in a rendition of 'Happy Birthday.' Then Rosario grabbed the mic and went nuts, "They've never played all acoustic. This is history in the making. How much does this fucking man rock?!" Before GN'R took the stage, Axl got into a spat with fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger.from gnrontour

I don't think it's a moot point, and just because there's no way in hell that Steven or Matt will be invited back, I don't think that really effects arguments for the others returning.

for me the interesting part is up turn in december...thats prolly when the general public realized that the album was out, thats when the Axl online appearances occurred...that was the opportune moment for the better music video and an appearance by axl on MTV or VH1

there is always gonna be a decline in sales after the initial rush...joe and jill blow didnt even know or care about leaks...the only ones who cared about leaks were teh few thousand diehards in the online community

You can actually see what happend with sales when people find out that the songs in the album were the one that leaked (Dec 17) and when people said fuck off its a good album (Dec 31) and when people said youre right... (Jan 21)
