I'm a huge fan of Brian Johnston and it drives me nuts because basically you can not say anything to shower praise on him without someone always interjecting that it's not the same since Bon.
Obviously there's the real fans who grew up listening to Bon and loved him, but I also wonder if it's become a bit hipster to have the opinion that Bon is best. Seems like it's said a lot so that people who don't really listen to rock music at all can appear knowledgable about Ac/Dc when the topic comes up.
Anyway Axl has really delivered on this, to me he was pretty much the only person in the world who had a shot at replicating Brian. There's so much of Brian's character and mood in the songs even when he's not always involved in the songwriting. But Axl has brought his A level game and is really delivering. So although I'll always love Brian i'm also going to just enjoy this for what it is - as it's pretty damn cool in it's own right.
Brian was great, no doubt. But he caught the rest of the band in the later part of their career. The Bon era was better overall. Better lyrics, more variation in the vocal style, much better collection of albums overall with a 100% quality rate (vs. a very spotty quality rate in the Brian era).

It's going to be real ugly if Brian comes out and says he's got the problem solved and is ready to tour and record again, which I think he really wants to do. I was shocked Axl said he's willing to go further with AC/DC, like from I interpret that to be, is being a full time member.
I really wish he'd just concentrate on GNR, tbh.
Axl also said something during the Spain concert like "we here at AC/DC are in the problem-solving business" as introduction for Dirty Deeds. The "we" part of that makes it sound like he is a member.
The question is whether the rumors are true that Angus pretty much fired Brian. If that is the case, it's possible Angus will still be unwilling to work with Brian even if a miracle happens for Brian's hearing. It doesn't make the decision easier for Angus that he now has a singer who is 14 years younger and singing the Brian material better than Brian himself has sang it in many years.

Why not? He sounds off because he couldn't hear. He is also very old to be singing that style at 68.
Why did Axl sound bad at Rio 2011 or for that matter on the nights in 2002 where he sang like that. Is there even a reason?
If anything Axl's disasters are far more questionable than the last couple of shows of Brian's career being sub par when he has an obvious disability.
It's really cool that 20 plus years on Axl has decided to fix things with Slash, has resumed singing in his famous style, and is giving his all to helping Angus out of a jam....but let's not get it out of perspective. Brian has been a rock for ac/dc for 30 years.
Regarding Axl's vocals, I think the fact he quit smoking in the mid-90's is the big issue. Brian still smokes to this day and I think that helped him maintain the natural rasp in his voice all the way to the end. Axl's rasp came from smoking and when he quit, the rasp went away. He has to force it now to get it to show up. The fact he basically disappeared for almost a decade and wasn't singing for many years probably didn't help matters either.

I'm not mocking Brian. I feel for the guy. I know what its like to not be able to hear shit and have contant ringing in your ears. I'm risking more hearing damage by going to see GNR. Having said that, I'll call a spade a spade. He sounds terrible in that video and you cant compare Axl fiascos to it.
He had a great run. His ears couldn't hold up until the end of the road. Shit happens. Angus chose to move forward.
So you admit to hearing problems and then say the guy sounds like shit. Maybe it's your hearing? 
Kidding, kidding. He does sound really bad in recent concerts. I feel bad for him. At this point I just hope his doctors can help him keep his hearing or make it better. Leading a normal life needs to be Priority #1 for him now.

Even if Guns is a bigger deal at the moment than Aerosmith, there is no way GN'R would even ask them to open. Aerosmith is one of the bands they respect too much to have them as an opening act.

I think Axl is kicking ass fronting Ac/Dc but lets not start taking shots at Brian he was already deaf when that video was taken and he has been amazing for decades now.
The man is also FOURTEEN YEARS older than Axl.
Tell me how Axl will go singing it in 2030 ?
This is how Brian did at the start of the tour when he was the age axl will be in 1.5 decades from now or so
He sounds better in that Grammy video than a lot of the 2009 River Plate show. Seems he has had plenty of ups and downs over the years, regardless of age.
Axl is the same way. Ups and downs. Wouldn't surprise me if a 67-68 year old Axl sounds better than he did with some of the Mickey Mouse disasters in the Chinese D touring era.

Yeah, I'm very impressed that Axl finished the show standing up despite that injury. Must have had a lot of adrenaline to help him get through it. Shitty thing was it happened so early in the set, which meant he was dealing with the injury for a huge chunk of the show (not like it happened during Paradise City at the very end or something).

The chair helps, but the rehearsals are probably helping a lot for the AC/DC side of it. Maybe he will realize this is what he should do with GN'R all the time.

I really doubt Josh Homme will open for Axl again...could be wrong I guess...but I'm sure we all remember the Eagles of Death Metal fiasco
Except one of them (Josh or Jessie, not sure) was at one of the recent GN'R shows.
