That cartoon someone made of Jarmo doing this exact 180 (or would it be a 360?) always made me laugh. Tried looking for it just now but looks  like someone has had it removed from the web.

Jarmo is assistant tour manager?

Same for me. Listened to them a lot more since I saw them the other week. Some of the deep cuts on AFD and UYI I've not listened to in ages though. It must be years since I last heard Anything Goes or Shotgun Blues.

I've yet to see a show that was as good on youtube as it was being there.  Maybe you overlook some of the weakness of the voice because the experience is so good, but it really doesn't matter.  The fact is most singers in their 50s and beyond can't hit the notes like they used to.  Just in the past couple years I've seen Def Leppard, Van Halen, Paul McCartney, Huey Lewis, Paul Simon, Toto, Billy Joel, and probably some others.  They all showed some signs of age.  The only older one I thought didn't that I've seen recently is Stevie Wonder.

Axl was hit and miss live in the 90s.  You can't realistically expect it to be good every night in 2017.  Enjoy the experience for what it is.

Agree completely with this. A youtube video only tells some of the story. The energy and atmosphere of the crowd is such a big factor and a video can never do that justice.

It's funny at the show on Saturday I remember thinking Axl sounded absolutely killer. Yet watching the videos back he sounds much the same as he has on the rest of the tour. I went with a couple of friends who are only casual fans and both said after the show how good he sounded.

I think monkey hit the nail on the head in another thread. From a forum perspective the same show night in night out leaves little to discuss after a while and people get bored. However when you're actually there in the middle of it, you don't care one bit that you're watching the same setlist they did in Spain 3 nights earlier. It's just a none issue.

Whole Lotta Rosie day in and day out. Fuck them seriously, GNR is the most boring, stale and predictable band around.

Predictable, yes, much like your posts. i can avoid reading the setlists  and avoid watching shitty cell phone videos on youtube until i see the show with my son (who will be seeing his first show) and it will be different then the last time i went to see gnr, which was different than the previous and so forth.

So, basically what you`re saying is, you`re all content with being a docile flock of sheep. It`s fine by me 14

It`s comical how much phoning in Axl gets away with because Slash stands next to him. If it were the previous lineup, you all would be bitching endlessly how boring and predictable it was but since it`s Salsh, you`re alright with it. By all means, carry on taking whatever is offered to you.

You're right, we should all join you on your pedestal, lamenting the near 3 hour shows that Axl, Slash and Duff are doing because it has basically the same setlist as a show earlier in the week that we weren't at. Baaaaaa.

The CD era was meant to be about moving forward and relaunching GNR in it's own right. That never really materialised and in the end we got a glorified cover band playing a 25 year old album whilst supposedly sitting on a 'vault' of new material.

This tour is about the reunion, so it's going to be a GH type setlist. To the people there on Saturday was the show any worse for playing Rosie (a song they've been playing since the 80's) instead of a UYI deep cut?

16 Whatever man.

I'm sorry reading a list of songs continues to dissapoint you.

They put on a show that leaves 80,000 people buzzing. Which is the point of the show afterall, not to keep a couple of hundred forum dwellers happy.

That is a hell of a show! I thought I enjoyed the CD era shows but this is just another level.

Agree with what jon said, it really does fly by and the pace is pretty relentless. I think the heat had sapped some of crowds energy but the atmosphere was still great throughout. Even the CD tracks got very warm responses. They played Rosie as well which was cool.

We can piss and moan about new music and same setlists etc but I defy any GNR fan not to walk away from that show grinning ear to ear.

^ Tickets arrived in the end.

I'll be at the show tomorrow night, looking forward to it 5

#270 Re: The Garden » The United Kingdom General Election, 2nd May 2024 » 465 weeks ago

May's showing her true colours these last few days. Power hungry, it's all about being PM, nothing else is important. She was a remainer who switched to leave to become PM, she still couldn't admit in the run up to this election that leave was in the best interest of the country. Yet she's the right person for the job?

She called an election supposedly on the premise of letting the UK show her that we supported her stance on Brexit. She even declared prior that six lost seats in her eyes was an election defeat. On that basis she got toasted. Yet she still clings on, now aligning herself with the DUP to stay as PM which at best is rank hypocrisy and at worst very dangerous. She seemingly has no regard for the consequences of her actions as long as she stays as top dog. Her speech on Friday morning was disgraceful, literally no acknowledgement of what had just happened.

I think we're heading for another election, half her mp's want her gone, she can't last.

Corbyn is still talking of forming a minority government which I think is a mistake. He needs too many parties coming together, I think it would end up too messy.

If he bides his time he'll get another election shot within 12 months.
