Axl was fucking boss in 2006. I think that might have been his best year vocally post-2000

By the Sword could have been a GnR song easy

That was NEVER coming out. Always surprised me when fans seemed to not only want it but expecting its imminent release.
I didn't think it needed to be released, so much as I would have liked to hear the demos leak..
I don't see a need to re-record CD.
I do. It increases the chances of the album's release.
I'd love the Beavan sessions untouched more than anything(including this reunion) but we weren't getting it so if it takes Slash and Duff being added to the mix to take it out of the vault and into stores, lets do it.
It was released 8 years ago!!
Unreleased material from the CD sessions, then absolutely. But no need to put out the same album with different players.
Stripped down some of them are excellent songs but too many layers of new guys coming in and adding shit on top of it.
Yes they are. Its why all the Beavan sessions need to be heard. It was cut and paste as well but at that point the layering wasn't so out of control yet.
The songs never needed Fortus, Ron, and Frank. Technically they didn't even need Brain. Those songs can exist and exist in a better form without them joining the band.
Yea, I'd like to see those 'leak' out at some point.
But for releasing, let's go with unheard songs. Whether they were meant for Chinese, VR, Slash, Duff, Izzy, UYI III, or something brand new, I don't really care.
Even one or two songs would be huge. If they want to sell music, this is the time to do it. Its hard enough these days but now they have the hype around Vegas and Coachella.

What UYI tracks do people want added to the set-list that weren't played on the last few tours outside of "Locomotive" and "Breakdown" do you guys want to hear?
.
Those 2, and Double Talking Jive and Bad Obsession, would both suit Axl's voice too.

Was thinking that perhaps the band could play a VR song without Axl.
As it has been the case with Bumble playing Glad to be Here, Tommy playing Motivation and so on.
Perhaps Duff on Vocals?
May or may not be a VR song, but I would expect a song or two with Duff on vocals to give Axl a breather. Could be VR, a Slash song, a punk cover.

I would take anything from the "Guns N' Roses" page to be at least approved by Axl.

I don't see a need to re-record CD. Maybe a song or two would be fun, but you can't wipe history. Just like Axl not releasing the AFD re-record with Tommy, Robin, etc. If they were to re-release anything from that era, how about the tracks with just Robin, Bucket, and one drummer. Stripped down some of them are excellent songs but too many layers of new guys coming in and adding shit on top of it.
Unreleased songs however, by all means.
On topic, I don't think Axl appreciated Steven Tyler's comments.. Did you guys see what the band posted on FB last night?

Mama's Good Boy wrote:I think the notion that no one is the crowd cares about the Chinese Democracy songs is flat out wrong. No, its not AFD or the Illusions, but many people do like at least some of the songs and I think a lot of fans are excited at the possibility of hearing a few of those songs played by Slash.
The Blues, TWAT, Catcher...
I would call them good fits to any Guns setlist.
The Blues and Chinese D have essentially been setlist staples for the last 15 years. Admittingly I havent' payed much attention the last couple tours.
#279 Re: Guns N' Roses » RICHARD FORTUS And DIZZY REED Exit THE DEAD DAISIES » 502 weeks ago
Dizzy's involvement was no secret. His wife and daughter was all over twitter about it when Coachella was announced. Apparently his daughter is really looking forward to one of the bands playing that I/we are all too old to know or care about.
#280 Re: Guns N' Roses » Just say no to corporate cash grabs » 502 weeks ago
All tours are cash grabs. That is why bands tour. This one is an especially huge cash grab.
And again, the success is all on Axl at this point, so its wouldn't be surprising if he is avoiding discussing this publicly because of anxiety.
Speaking as someone who never got to see them in my youth, I'll happily go and see this line-up. Because I'm not reliving my fucking youth, I'm creating new and exciting memories.
Exactly. It will have somewhat of a blast from the past feel, but its impossible to recreate 1987 anyway. I'm with you there.
I might be alone on this but I would LOVE to see the old band take on some of the Chinese Democracy material.
To me those songs feature some of Axl's best parts (when viewed in isolation) and what makes then jarring for a lot of people was the extent of the production and that many of them have elements of electronica mixed into the rock (eg the infamous "masturbating robots" of better).
However it's noticeable to me how much rockier the tracks became live. Check out IRS at Rock Am Ring 2006, or have a look at the boots of Scrapped from Osaka 2009.
I think the same tracks delivered as "rocky covers" from Slash and Duff would have a lot of potential...Chinese Democracy, IRS, Street of Dreams, Catcher, If the World, There Was a Time, Madagascar and so on would be immediately transferable without even a whole lot of style changes. Admittedly stuff like Riad and Shackler are outside of Slash's normal style of playing (pedal heavy etc) but I'm sure a rock cover of them would be interesting.
Agree with so much of this. You aren't alone in this.
IRS has such an awesome energy live..
Agree that a few of the songs like Shackler really would not make great fits.. but most of your list I agree. Although I can't imagine we get more than 2 or 3, if we are lucky.
I think of The Blues and Chinese Democracy as GnR staples at this point.
What would be even more awesome is something brand new. But that is just wishful thinking.. lol
