Well if Quick Song is Cuban Skies then Mister Saint Laurent can add another feather to his cap.
Funny you mention the military drum roll sound @Shacklermyrye on this very forum https://www.gnrevolution.com/viewtopic. … 10365&p=15 @misterID a friend of Mister Saint Laurent claims that Cuban Skies was played and identified by Mister Saint Laurent in chat. Also in the thread Cuban Skies is described as having a military style drum roll.
Also flightly off topic but not worthy of it's own thread...
I also listened to Oklahoma again.
We know that song was almost complete when they went into Rumbo January 98, when I listened this time it stood out that whilst the drumming is either Freese or Brain (I think Freese?) The drum rolls and arrangement screams Sorum to me. Obviously Sorum was there until 97, with Riggs filling in for him when he was on tour. It's obviously likely that Sorum worked on that song before leaving. I wonder if the reason we never got it was so as to deny him any form of credit. Him being listed as an additional musician in the Live Era record possibly hints that may be the case, at least to me.

I listened to the older version of Quick Song today for the first time in ages, the version on Rough Mix CD 2.
The intro drum roll sounds somewhat like a machine gun, at least to me.
I wonder if that was intentional or not, either way later versions have that intro removed so I guess they decided against it

Given Silkworms was renamed Absurd, Hardschool - Hardskool and Nothing' - Nothin' then I wouldn't be surprised that if Quicksong was released (which I doubt) that it would be renamed Q Song.
It's obviously an Axl choice of course, I mean look at how he spelled the word Nothing back in the 80's

Anyone watching the new season of Dark Side of the Ring?
It's been pretty good so far. Big Bossman and The Renegade the best episodes so far.
While I never liked Jeff Jarrett and cared nothing about TNA, I actually enjoyed his episodes. You get the entire history in one show.
Just starting it. Only seen the first TNA episode so far and preferred that to the whole of last season. Will watch more eps this week for sure

This has made it's way out there. Despite what someone in the youtube comments claims it is clearly real.
0:00 - Move to the City (Take 1 - With Axl)
3:33 - Banter/Intermission
5:08 - Nightrain (Take 1 - Instrumental)
10:11 - My Michelle (Instrumental)
11:49 - Move to the City (Take 2 - Instrumental)
16:40 - Out Ta Get Me (With Axl)
21:06 - Move to the City (Take 3 - With Axl)
22:03 - Nightrain (Take 2 - With Axl)
22:32 - Rocket Queen (With Axl)
I suspect this was one of the other items purchased from the locker by a well known collector that was not involved with the CD era stuff.
Brasky just to clarify I did not post this first, occasionally browse Mygnr and saw it there, posted by NelvinHigby.
Man 14:30 seconds in the part Izzy plays on Move To The City screams Hollywood rose

Main body of text from link above............
Hey everyone - some very sad news to report. Doug Goldstein, a longtime manager of Guns N' Roses, has passed away. Doug was with GN'R and Axl for 17 years. Appetite until 2004.
I was informed yesterday by Craig Duswalt, Axl's former assistant. Craig and I just recorded an episode together talking about Doug and remembering the good times. He hasn't done an interview in 12 years. (...and is the other mustached man in the photos fyi)
Needless to say, I'm in shock and saddened. Many of you know that a few years ago, Doug and I were working on his autobiography together. Once others tried to get their hands on the project, it didn't end well. At the time, I felt betrayed. I was wrong. What I used to think was a waste of time writing a book that never happened, I now cherish the hours of conversation with Doug.
Doug was ALWAYS kind and supportive of me. He made me feel good about myself, ALWAYS. I took a rejection from a publisher too hard, and it wasn't Doug's fault. We did reconcile, but our friendship was never sadly the same.
My heart goes out to his family and friends, especially his 2 sons Jake and Eli. He loved those boys more than anything.
Rest in peace, Dougie. ?
