I've been browsing the Chinese Whispers section and revisited the "Earth shattering" and "Mind blowing" comments from Tommy, as well as Dizzy, Baz and Richard blowing it out of proportion. Thats just a few of the people still considered on-side by Axl who helped fuel the hype.
Theres a lot more people however, who Axl now calls detractors, "who pulled shit out their ass, if not the air" just for speaking highly of the material throughout the years.
This is classic as well:

"There's been some concern. That if we play five or six new songs, then there can't that many more on the album. Au contraire, mon frére. We're just playing the songs we're not considering putting out as singles or anything. So, you'll get 18 songs, and about 10 extra tracks. And when that, when the record company feels that has run its course, then you'll get it all over again. By that time, I should be done with the third album. So we'll see if all goes well boys and girls."
If thats not blowing things out of proportion I dont know what is.
Honestly this latest interview is fucked up, he sounds like such a desperate man, cornered and lashing out.
Now apparantly Beta has called the latest rumoured festival appearances fake, things just get brighter and brighter.

Yeah lets start a Bring Back Bucket campaign, post "Axl please reunite with Buckethead" threads and start wearing Buckethead=GN'R T-shirts. That should please Axl
If enough people start showing an interest in getting Buckethead back we might get round 2 and "the truth" about dog poop, porn and chicken coops.

Its unsuprising to see his wife respond, women love a bit of stirring the shit.
She could have said worse, but "loser" is distainful enough I think. Slash did man up and go to his house, so Axl refuses to come out his toyroom and then prepares a horrible little press release about it, what a little bitch.
Its quite fitting that while del and Axl were plotting away in his lair, conjuring up that bile they dressed as an interview - Slash is out with the kids, taking them to football etc. living your typical adult life.

I've never understood the damned if he does, damned it he doesnt attitude on forums. It seems like a cop out argument defending his actions. I wouldnt damn him if he spoke about CD and the future, who in the world doesnt know he thinks Slash is the bad guy? Its 2009!
Ive seen Axls henchmen in another forum showing links to media sites showing the "Axl calls Slash a cancer" headlines claiming it proves that the world is interested in hearing this story and Axl had to tell his side.
Thats a bunch of BS, the story is getting headlines because its such a shocking attack/interview. Axl has damaged his reputation even further with the casual music fan with this latest round of rants. He comes across as an utter fucking arsehole in that interview.
I'm sure people will be lining up around the block to buy tickets for the next tour knowing Slash is well and truly gone, this dick is in charge and has no idea who is currently in his band.
"Our focus is on this record" - who the fuck is he trying to fool, himself???

Axl could have shot down the hype years ago but he blew it all up himself also.
He is the one who stood on stage saying CD was going to have X amount of songs with a bonus disc of b sides, then saying they would tour and after that they would be ready to release the next album.
The man has a well documented past of trying to change history to suit his own particular needs.
And the economy is no exuse for poor sales, music thrives and develops during hard times. Whole revolutions in music have grown throughout difficult times.
Times were tough when GNR had their glory days.

I wonder how tickets sold for concerts this year will compare to 06?
2006 was a success due to the popularity of Greatest Hits imo, this time around things are much different.
