Well the casuals can't be really counted for an opinion. I'm sorry, but they have proven they aren't valid.

I've seen plenty of people who still though Slash was in the band, praise tracks such as Sorry, This I Love & Prostitute, and suddenly when they're told "Slash quit in '96", they revert to 'it sucks'.

What's scary about CD is, the NEW BAND FANS are reacting with disappointment, so that's certaintly when my curiousity was peaked. I personally still feel it's an amazing album, better than the Illusion's. But that's just me. If the Illusion's were combined into one record, than CD would fall short.

I don't think u can say CD is better than the UYI's.

U are a comparing something "New" to something 17 years old, so the newer fresher thing for a while will seem better but how will it be in 17 years?

I was tired of it after about 2 weeks.

First day of release? HELL YEAH I was so excited I had every song a 9 or better.

If I did those same ratings now, after a couple months of digesting them, the ratings would be much much lower.
the songs just don't hold up over time.

CD has nothing close to NR, DC, Coma, Estranged,Civil WarLocomotive,Dont Damn Me or YCBM.  for me, all the CD rock songs are on par with maybe something like Bad Obsession or Dead Horse whereas the ballads are closer to maybe Breakdown which is a great song but it doesn't have the ingredients to make them all time classics

Why people think that just because a guitar player can play 45 notes in 3 seconds, that makes them a great guitar player?

When I listen to CD, I hate the guitar playing on probably 75 percent of it. Its nu metalish for the most part and the solos are just a bunch of yanking off that really adds zero emotion or heart to the songs.

I hear people on GNR forums all the time heaping praise on this guy or that guy and quite frankly, a guy playing or tapping 20 notes in 1 second does not impress me. It is great for sideshows and wowing people a la David Blaine, but musically it sounds like a bunch of angry bees.

Emmit Smith of the Dallas Cowboys formerly ran a 4.6 40 yard dash and is the all time leading rusher. by GNR fans rationale, Trung Candidate *Who? EXACTLY* is a superior greater running back just because he runs a 4.2 40.

Guitar playing is not about speed, is it about what u create, how u play it and how u convey that emotion in a way that penetrates and moves the listener.

the fast show offy stuff is cool the first time u hear it, but after about the 10th time, u just really want a nice kick ass heart thumping balls filled solo that kicks u in the teeth.

I am a complete music listener and with CD I do not get a full musical experience.

axl's vocals, lyrics and melodies are close to a 10 but the rest of the album is a 6 or 7.................. poor riffs, solos that are cool and flashy but outside of TWAT and Sorry and maybe I am forgetting a couple, but for the most part, they just don't take the song anywhere. its like, hey u, here is 30 seconds, show off as much as u can.

its like fucking without the orgasm, u don't get that big payoff on a guitar solo that makes it not a time space filler.

the drums on CD are an afterthought, u have to pay close, full attention to even truly hear what is being played most of the time, half of it sounds like a kid using fruity loops on his laptop

I kept it in my car for the last couple of days and to be honest, i had to take it out today, I would start on CD and skip, skip skip till it landed on CD again............................

I then put on Boston's "More than  A feeling" and then it really hit me what is missing on CD. It just lacks that lively feel. U can tell CD was labored over every night and so compressed and copy and pasted that it is very robotic and tight. but so tight it stifles out the magic and the groove.

CD has NO groove at all. it is very mechanical.

I know half the people will write this off as some GNR hater, Slash lover, Some stuck in the 80's dude.

that is fine.

GNR are still one of my all time fave bands, one mediocre album will not in anyway dim my fandom.

I can just no longer lie to myself and other posters trying to be the "Good Guy"  blind zealous follower that we think "WE" have to be to prove our fandom.

I know my love for the band, which is why I have to be honest.

I think SKippy is right. Axl blames EVERYBODY and have u ever heard him take ANY blame whatsoever for any of this shit?

A definition for insane is repeating the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Axl does the same shit over and over.... the result ain't changing

I had it in for a few days but I skipped just about every other song.

The more I listen, the more realize how average this CD truly is minus a couple really good songs.

The album is just uneven. Axl is a 9 but the other guys are like a 5 and it makes for a very unbalanced album.

i think whether Slash liked the song or not is besdides the point when the material that he wrote for the peice was such an integral part to the final product, but he must've liked it to a certain degree for him to put such impressive guitar work on it

for instance I work in an architect's office, i dont like every job i do but i can appreciate something's ingenuity or efficiency and also accept credit good or bad for the work that I did for the project....if the lead guitar work sucked on NR or Estranged who would've taken the heat? Axl cuz he got the only writing credit? No it woulda been on Slash's head cuz he was the lead guitarist, but no the lead guitar was brilliant and all he got was a "thanks for coming out"

anyway the point of me bringing that up was not to bring up slash vs axl again, but to illustrate that the peopel who write important parts of GnR songs don't always get their due credit

Lets dont forget that no one has challenged Axl creatively like Slash has either in the form of something like "coma"

I really only have issues with two guitar solos on CD.

This I Love which is decent... it isn't as horrible as I original thought, but still, it  is usually when I hit the back button or next button

Catcher's solos make the song unlistenable almost. That was my favorite leak and the solo is just really really bad. There is one part I like, the little lick that comes in when Axl sings "And then the voices went away"

that lick right there is awesome.. the rest is really bad.

Fall to Shit and Shitter did much BETTER on radio.....that is the difference so far. Album sales are driven by singles...always have and always will. Unfortunately, I don't think Axl has a real good single that fits in today's radio. It is still fairly early, but I don't hold a lot of hopes for a huge comeback. It just seems like too personal of a record to catch on with the masses.

Fall To Pieces was number 1 for 11 weeks and Slither was number 1 on Modern and Mainstream

So if u are going to call those songs shit, what the fuck does that make CD and Better?

VR kicked Axl's ass.

Those are just the fucking facts.

Better

Never really liked it. sounds like a boy bandish kind of song

not to start a VR/GNR war but really CD is more Libertad than CB. CB had two number 1's and won a grammy and going double platinum

CD success wise is just a bit ahead of Libertad. CD did bout what She Builds Quick Machines did and better is a little ahead of The Last Fight

I think that this would be foolish on Guns part.

They did this back in the day, I saw it, and Metallica destroyed them and Axl's attempt to rip-off the Stones with 43 different members of the band doing flute solos and whatnot.

Metallica and Faith No More brought the huge butthurt to GNR's overpolished show.

I recommend a GNR start bringing the heavy back, or they might be opening up for John Tesh or Josh Grobin.

And yes, grow musically and all that, but for god sakes, no one wants to see Zig Zag's harmonica solo while Axl changes into a red jacket.
