A trilogy is really pushing it.
Definitely a double album though.
Atlas Shrugged
Perhaps
Oklahoma/Berlin
The General
Soul Monster
Circus Maximus/Ides
D Tune
PRL/Thyme
SilkwormsWhile I do like some other instrumentals here, it's thinning out, they start getting redundant and in some cases, clearly aren't meant to be real songs.
I do believe Tommy's 22 songs statement but even he said they had a lot of unfinished material, some of it not worthy of being finished.
He made that statement in 2011 I think yet that opinion can be seen in these sessions already.
I“m going with Quick Song, Mustache and Tonto as real tracks. As it Began and Zodiac as real tracks. Dummy worked up a little. Nothing is a single in 2002. Not unlike UYI, 4 solid tracks to open a cd then Jam out. But finish with an epic. Still not entirely sure it’s a trilogy but if D1 is CD...you have shit left over. It’s based around Chi dem/The Blues as singles. Then Better and TIL, then Shacklers and ITW. Scraped and Sorry is CD IV. Then drop the Bucket to fill the gaps. Bucket is in the band, you can make these sonic landscape albums. 10 tracks each. You don’t have go full mega event album like CD. In a way dissembling CD with these leaks really should help the records cause.

It feels good to be back.

Seems like with the 4 discs there’s definitely a double cd set if not triple cd set. You might have to space out the disc 1 or 2 songs across it and the fast paced Bucket jams could be like Perfect Crime or Garden of Eden.
CD is like a triple album of singles. Bucket may have scared the recomp away or maybe they did finish it off.

There’s two issues I guess. The forum numbers don’t have impact but maybe the media pick up on the story and that might annoy Slash etc that they are back touring as real Guns but media attention is on these CD era leaks. So it makes sense to make a gesture or comment, Axl
is not making it about himself. Tack on how this may affect the creative process and whatever they do with the recomp. Maybe these were meant for a box set in 2050.
In a way though I think maybe downplaying or ignoring it may have worked better, but there is a positive promo element to it to consider so.
So I can see how the media may blow it up and that starts to play into whatever they were planning or not planning, however they do things. The difference is the forums will be more relieved to hear the material and the normal fans will get swayed more by what they hear. Obviously controlling the moment of the first release of new Slash and Axl material is important.
#346 Re: Guns N' Roses » The "Better" video treatment MSL possesses has leaked. » 299 weeks ago
i'm surprised the better video was never released. i'm pretty sure mtv, vh1, axs, and many video channels on tv at the time would've played the better video many times on tv
The recomp told Axl not to do a video, or they wouldn’t fund it. So they made their own but didn’t have the channels to distribute because Azoff was busy setting up a reunion tour on the release of CD.

wasted2019-2028 wrote:What is strange is that Atlas Shrugged and Perhaps are the best sounding tracks on Disc 1 but they were left on the shelf. If they put out a double cd set one of these on each is going to help.
I think the only reason you didn't hear Atlas and Perhaps, were that they weren't leaked beforehand.
I kind of thought about it and it kind of highlights the relationship between the band and the fans.
On one hand the forums are a very small percent of the fans, yet they let the leaks guide the album?
I’m not sure if they did, but it holds today, it seems strange to tailor an album to a small group who will buy everything anyway and casuals will never get or know the leaks.
It’s possible that lyrically and sonically was the guide. Here’s the songs about the 90s fall out and some stuff we’ve been working on too. Like UYI. They played DC and Back off before.
I think maybe Atlas and Perhaps are a little further down the road lyrically, kind of past Better or Sorry. Axl is looking back at the rage and hurt he had. Madagascsr and Twat are kind of in it. But on Atlas and Perhaps it’s about questioning evening having these problems. the feeling are less direct.

Sky Dog wrote:It’s a train wreck in the end.....too many people involved in the project...too many ideas....too many opinions....too many choices. It’s just a mess as evidenced by the wide variety of material on these discs. Ultimately the album that came out of this sounds like a compilation record.
Well stated. Yeah, This as a whole sounds like a hired gun 40 track vault. Kinda like a Steely Dan, 1 or 2 main people, with 8 others playing & giving input. SD was more streamlined & official, this sounds like a band where the lead & singer wouldn't show for weeks at a time or until 4am, so the band often played on their own as an aside.
That’s a very 90s early 90s thing. NIN and QOTSA were collectives. Axl cast himself as Trent or Homme. Not as huge figurehead, but as the focal point of an array of musicians. There is almost maybe an extra dimension of Axl wanting them to go wild and build walls of sound for him to get inspired by. But he also ended collabing with each guy’s songs. This process has pros and cons. Letting Bucket do what he wanted paid off more than just saying here’s my song play it. But working Shacklers up from that very wild demo to the GNR track was probably a lot of work.
