If they really want to make a statement, they should be on time tonight and play right up to midnight again, forcing the organisers to pull the plug again.
I was telling a few non fan, non interested, normal people today about Reading and the sit down protest, all of them burst out laughing saying the same thing - "what, they started a protest after coming on an hour late ha ha haaaaaaaa thats so stupid"
Its funny, when you try and talk to normal people about GNR and the things some claim, we fans should be used to, it always sounds utterly absurd.
normal people are dead. life is living in the absurd.

The only person to blame is Axl fucking Rose for thinking he was above the law.
he is above the law. & so am i. the only people to blame are the fucking law makers & pharisees.
people who desire & demand control & suppression of the individual. people who think everyone else should be living their lives accord to archaic & idiotic rules that these imaginationless drones value because they're too afraid to re-evaluate.. & i understand how that fear can be overwhelming & that's why it's such a volitile reaction..

i think the leeds crowd'll be much more receptive than the indie-kid dominated reading leg. but there will still be a riot - whether GnR play or not, it's tradition for the leeds audience 2 riot on the closing night. ironically i think GnR might just calm the crowd out of their behaviour - by being so boring & sapping/exhausting the energy from the people..

You do realize that this was held in a city. And only a very, very, very, very infinitesimally small portion of the population of this city attended this festival.
have u been to reading/reading fest??

people shouldn't hold a rock n roll show if they don't want noise at night time. reject the license tell the organisers to find another venue or another act that will play by the rules. but don't expect people who want to play later to play @ a ridiculously early time on a Friday night.

Axl knew what was expected. He was told ahead of time. He wasn't threatened, he was simply told the reality of the situation.
the reality of the situation is stupid. the stupid needs to be challenged and broken.

johndivney wrote:the root of the issue is an 11pm or even 11:30pm curfew is inherently wrong & people should be protesting the issue instead of letting it & rock n roll become standardised & homogenised. anyone who appreciates the freedom music, rock n roll, affords should be above nonsensical & detrimental rules that take away from the experience (that same rule of thumb applies to the setlist complaints btw).
rock n roll shouldn't be dictated to by money men, concert promoters or local councils. it should controlled by those who believe in it.Those things apply to rock and roll at every level. When I was a teenager my band decided we wanted to play in a Park, so we told a bunch of people, set up, and started to play. The cops came and told us we had to quit, we couldn't just do that. Even at 17 or 18 we said "Sorry Sir, We didn't know that" and went and probably played some more at somebody's house.
Playing local clubs, if you don't do what the clubowners want, they aren't going to want you back. You'll soon you'll start running out of places to play.
"Money men, concert promoters or local councils", are all part of what makes it the music "business".
why can't we change it? why does it have to be the way these people say it has to be?
GnR have a platform, or rather axl has a platform, cause he's got a catalogue of outstanding songs behind him & a strong brand name. it should be expected of someone with that power to be questioning authority & the rules of the bizness. he should be applauded rather than derided. it's the normal people like bono & jon bon jovi who have by and large sucked all the value out of classic rock by their adherence to the status quo's rules; they've thwarted not only rock n rolls evolution but are killing it by having validated a standardised way of behaving that's as phoney and fake as your next pop-princess or boyband. what we've ended up with is a world of the killers, arcade fire, the hold steady.
GnR have always existed outside those parameters. GnR have always been about freedom of expression - no matter how petty it gets it's still a damn sight more honourable than any of the boring rule-abiding sheep that are held in such high esteem by their fellow flocks.

Come live in the gray area folks. That's where most of the world resides.
no, unfortunately most of the world resides in thrall to normalcy. living in fear of freedom. the grey area is good & has a lot of answers but it's only a stop on the road 2 enlightenment..:mosh:
