#3591 Re: Guns N' Roses » what does Axl/GNR have to, to regain your interest 100% » 788 weeks ago
i really don't want a reunion. i'd prefer slash/axl/izzy/duff everyone to stop making music forever or die immediately before i'd want to see them on stage pretending to be GnR again.
GnR is dead but we still get cool music from the guys used to be GnR & that's all i hope for. if they reunited it really would be the most embarrassing thing in GnR history.
unless they reunited and made an album as good as even UYI1, never mind 2 or Appetite. i'd forgive everyone anything ever if they had dropped another epic awesome LP.

ftr i have 5 mates who are all big GnR fans & they're ALL still undecided or thinking that they won't be going - it's too expensive, on a weeknight & they've seen the '02 & '06 shows (& not a whole lot has change since then).
any other people i've asked about going have scoffed because Guns aren't cool ("i dunno, they're a bit gay" one guy said) or cited similar reasons as above.
olorin what exact does your ticket say - it should have two numbers? it should have 330 then another number to the right. i think it's the number to the right which indicates how many rows of tickets have been sold for standing.
e.g. my ticket is:
2____________3
but my pearl jam ticket from earlier in the year, at the same venue, reads:
59___________9
that pearl jam gig was sold out but i dunno how long it took to sell out. metallica played TWO sold out gigs at this venue and they sold them out on the day of release.
there'll be about 4-7,000 at the show eventually. it holds 9,100 or something like that.
(fwiw my ticket for the Dublin Guns show reads: G2______541)
as much as i'm looking forward to seeing Guns in my hometown i'm excpecting the Dublin gig to be much more intense. usually it's the other way around, the dublin crowds r usually boring compared to up here, but i can't help feel the apathy for this band & this show. hopefully i'm wrong.

when they're signing the copy of suicide does slash say he hates that photo then axl says how much he likes it then won't shut up about it for the next few mins??
maybe i've misheard & misunderstood..
Love Pretty Tied Up and OIAM.
Never really cared for Don't Damn Me. Maybe because I prefer UYI II to UYI I, but typically the UYI I fans I see praising Don't Damn Me, while UYI II fans stick up for songs like Breakdown and the alternate lyrics Don't Cry, which lyrically is stronger than the original. But I can understand why the original version is more popularized.
I just always loved this from the alternate cut...
...and when you're in need of someone
my heart won't deny you
so many seem so lonely
with no one left to cry to...Pure awesomeness
yea i love the lyrics 2 dontcry.alt far more than the original 2. n axls performance is fantastic. (shame he seems to not even know the lyrics to either version these days...)
don't damn me is a weird one. some really really shit lyrics, some really awesome lyrics, a bangin' tune & one of slashs all time best solo's.
breakdown i think suffers from being in an album alongside Civil War, Estranged, YCBM (& KOHD for some fans - 14ys, PTU, So Fine, Locomotive, Dont Cry for me). on any other GnR record Breakdown would be a standout track but it's simply overshadowed by it's grander company.
always thought PTU was one of the best Illusions songs. i absolutely love the izzy material on those records.
OIAM is one of the best Guns songs & prob is my fave on Lies but there's some fierce competition, it's a cracking record. in fact most GnR albums are pretty class! best band ever u guys!

And what would give you that impression? Just curious. You think the end of this tour is the end of Guns forever, or you think a reunion is in the works?
well it could be the end of one of the guitarists in the band & therefore that lineup of guitarists or indeed all three could leave.
at the minute they SEEM to be nothing more than a touring band. and like james says bumble has been in the band four years now and all impressions are that he hasn't created any new, post-CD Guns songs or albums. how long can that relationship maintain? does axl even want these guys to make a new GnR album? there's certainly no indication of this happening either.
it's just speculation. there is the possibility that axl n the 'new' guys will get it together and make new music. but the evidence thus far suggests this is first and foremost a touring band.
it just wouldn't surprise me if one or more of them either couldn't be bothered or run out of patience or worse. i don't know so much about them getting fired, but if axl's gonna continue his typical recording process you can't really blame the guys if they don't want to stick around for another 10years of touring & re-recording other peoples songs..
i don't think it's the end of Guns forever. as long as Axl can make money from the brand, or at least as long as he has enthusiasm for the brand GnR will always be around in some form. but Axl IS GnR, bumble isn't - just a cool guitarist playing other peoples songs, 4 years later..
i don't think a reunion is in the works at present. but we know never to say never. nothing will happen immediately in the GnR world that's all we know for sure. who couldn't see a reunion in 2 years time? it'll always be there so long as axl keeps to his schedule, a schedule which alienates even his supposed bandmates, 'cause the new GnR will never have the credibility or bond or respect of the outside world the way things have been & continue to be conducted - that lack of respect brings a pressure to bear on the member of the band & i just dunno how dedicated some of them are to putting up with all the BS. bumble sounds a lot more wearisome with each passing interview, & who can blame him? he tries but 4 years on he's still getting questions about slash - that's because axl is still touring a record that bumble really had no part of writing. if axl n guns were to come out with a fantastic album of bumble/$lashba songs* things would be on more concrete footing but as it is i wonder how much disillusionment these people can be bothered with. obviously a lot since they took the gig & are all still there so there are definitely positives going on with this current group but there will always be suspicions that are ultimately due to the incompetent running of the organisation.
* and that's another thing - do we, & critically does axl, have faith in these guys as songwriters to match the legacy of what went before? is axl still so invested in the extra CD-era songs that he doesn't want to move on? if he does want to move on will he want to bring in other guys to write songs with him?
but axl's songwriting process SEEMS so laborious & long-winded (a bit like this post!!) that surely there is some dissent in the ranks.. & eventually that'll bubble up as it always has done..

What happens if we're inbetween managers?
"It'™s happened, could be a long wait."
that is funny.
from my reading of the interview there seem to be allusions to lack of writing/recording fresh Guns material, or even interest in creating new Guns material. the question about Slash/reunion he immediately goes to his own non-GnR life/career.
(i think there's a very strong possibility this 'world tour' could be the end of bumble/4tus/$lashba.)
u can't blame him for not wanting to answer questions about the reunion but he gave a real politicans answer & his reponse seemed like the answer to an entirely different question.
and i know it's a topic that was raised in the recent brain interview thread, and countless times before, but all the secrets & hush-hush bs of management BS is just so old. we already know how fucked up things are in the GnR way of running things so just fill in the gory details, at this stage it could only help improve relations with the fans instead of continually treating them like muppets - "i don't know the exact reasons blah blah blah" just call a spade a spade and have done with the fucking thing.
but then again i'm not getting a fat paycheck from the Guns organisation each month, maybe if i were i'd adopt their shadow-speak 2..

I fuckin' love Axl. He's won so many points with me again on going after this guy.
This is gonna be great. I got my popcorn ready.
+1
& on that note, TWAT has just came on & u gotta hand it to axl he lives his lyrics. whatever u think has gone wrong he's always true to his art. suppose he doesn't knw any other way.. but the first part of TWAT sounds an awful lot like what's going on right now.
think the last GnR song i heard was IRS.. his life never seems to get any easier, huh?
