This is an example of how GNR outlived all of their peers, all the rest of the 80's LA scene...and most of the so-called grunge bands that followed them. And they've been, arguably, the least active of many of them.
The cream rises to the top. They were/are more talented and it shows in the music they created.

Pop in the last 20 years? Yeah, it has been pretty much crap. Lady GaGa's early material was good and then she went to shit too. Michael Jackson was great. None of these fuckers today are anywhere near that. The songwriting and talent just isn't there. Adele is great, but I don't know if I would classify her as pop in the same sense as the others.

You don't have to hate other shit.
I call it like I see it. I hate the direction she has taken her career. She has talent and is wasting it with the pop bullshit. She made a great acoustic song with The Civil Wars before she sold out with the pop genre and I was hoping it would be a sign of better things for her in the future compared to her earliest stuff (country pop). But she went completely the opposite direction and doubled down on the pop sound.

Truth is, the vast majorty of folks under 30 aren't going to be very familiar with GNR.. aside from the fact that they've heard a couple of the hits.
Hell, I'm 35, and was too young to see GnR back in their day. I'd of loved to when I was 12 and the UYI tour was going on, but my mom wasn't about to let that happen. Especially considering I was raised in St. Louis... That wasn't happening.
I'm 30 and I find it pretty sad that so many people my age and younger think that Bieber, Swift, et al is good music. It's absolute rubbish.

Axl has done very little outside of GnR in the last 30 years.
In 94 he performed at the RnR hall of fame w/Springsteen.
He did some one-off with Gilby in the late 90s.
Sometime before the release of CD, he did some guest vox on Sebastian Bach's "Angel Down".
What else ?
Freddie Mercury Tribute with Queen and Elton John. Also performed November Rain with Elton at the MTV Video Awards. "Free Fallin" with Tom Petty and "Salt of the Earth" with the Rolling Stones. Blew both of them off the fucking stage, lol.
