McCain would never win the presidency. He's too old and that would stop him. He'd be the oldest elected president ever. I have to say, though, I like him the best of the Republicans. He's a maverick and doesn't just agree with the party line because he's part of the party. But, if he runs on a platform that he'll continue the war, he'll be beaten like a drum. America doesn't want this war anymore, in Iraq that is. Bush doesn't have any firsthand war experience, either. A president doesn't have to have war experience, that's a fallacy. If you have the right people around you, that's what counts. Bush Sr. had war experience, and he fucked it all up over there.
How do you figure? McCain leads in national polls against all candidates except Edwards. And Bush Sr. certainly didn't "fuck it up" as you put it. In fact all objective observers easily agree that Clinton did massive damage to the military in terms of cutbacks both in personnel and pay. A significant problem with America is that so few (less than 1%) feel any need to serve in the military, yet feel they are qualified and informed on military matters to make a valid opinion. 20 years ago it was unheard of for a Presidential candidate to not have military experience, now it is the norm. Iraq isn't the issue some want to make it out to be. It's not popular, but don't be fooled into believing that the majority of Americans want us out of Iraq now. Americans wants us out of Iraq, but liberals love to add "immediately" to the end of that statement. Polls don't show that and any prudent person who's interested in the safety of America and the stability fo the Middle East wouldn't want that either.
Maybe because I'm actually in the Military I have a different view than those who think Full Metal Jacket and Platoon are accurate portrayals of how the military functions. It just seems obvious to me that someone who is going to be in charge of the most powerful military in the world should have an intimate understanding of how it functions. Only one candidate truly has that.
But McCain's age should have nothing to do with his qualification as President. Personally I would rather want an experienced and tested leader (McCain) versus a young and inexperienced individual who has taken the stance of every special interest group there is (Obama). I am making my prediction that by February 6th, McCain will have sealed the GOP nomination. I also am prediciting that McCain beats Obama by a decisive margin (7 pts or more) in the General election.

First off, I disagree with comparing Clinton to Reagan. Reagan was a great president who has an amazing legacy. Clinton has no such legacy. Just because he's the only decent Democratic candidate since Kennedy doesn't put him on equal footing with the greatest Republican candidate since Lincoln.
Anyway, Huckabee will not get the nomination. Recent polls show McCain pulling ahead nationally and he's dominating in New Hampshire. I am thrilled this is happening because it does indeed look like Obama is going to get the nod if the trend stays over the next 3 weeks. McCain has always beat Obama in a national poll and there is no other candidate I want in Office (save the improbable Paul) rather than McCain. With our country being at war, we need a candidate who has first hand military experience and hasn't just watched a war on TV or read about it in a book.
My prediction is that McCain picks up some massive steam and takes the nomination. I wouldn't be suprised if Guiliani doesn't become his running mate to help him win over some more moderate votes.

You assert that these stories are true. You provide these stories as proof of your above stated outlook on the world. I think if we are attempting to have an intelligent discourse, information that passes the common sense test and has factual basis should be the material used in such a debate. You're taking a story posted by someone on a message board as proof that there are people being dragged from airports and shaven with out any just cause. I could post a similar story even though it is patently false. I'm not trying to be abrasive or insulting. You claim to be an intellectual and educated, yet use arguments that if presented in an academic environment would result in you failing the course. Surely you can see my argument here.
Edit: I'm a Free mason and I take issue with your claim. Nothing Masonry does has any impact on the world. Members of my family our 33rd degree Masons and one was the previous head of the York Rite. The secret of Masonry is that it makes good men better men; it is a fraternity focused on morality. Actually speaking to a Mason would probably provide you with a better understanding than speaking with someone who has never seen a lodge, let alone be one.

More stories coming in...
Unfortunately this is common these days. We had two employees of us (we are in the property market) detained while travleing through JFK.
First this happened in 2005 when a colleague of us was flying to Mexico City and had to change planes in JFK. So he never actually had to enter the states, he was only in the international transit area. He was screened and then put into detention. He is a Sikh and so he wears his turban. He was captured and held hostage without charges or warrant for 12 days. US Homeland Security never bothered to inform us, his family or any reprentative of the United Kingdom, England or the Commonwealth. He wasnät allowed to make phone calls, he had his hair cut or better it was shaven of to the bare skin. For a Sikh the hair is holy and he isn't allowed to cut it, ever. After 10 days we had eye witnesses of his arrest in the transit area and were able to file an official diplomatic action against the US in London. It took 2 more days to even locate him, he was in a Federal prison in Connecticut, solitary confinement. They kept him alone in a dark cell in 3 different prisons, 3 in the last one. he was allowed one meal per day. And the guard in connecticut said to him "If i were you, don't drink, thats the fastest way out of here for you". He NEVER received an official apology. Reason: Enemy Combatants have no rights. Nice
Second happened this year, another employee of us was captured in JFK while entering NYC for a business meeting. She was taken hostage at the immigration screening, she had been to the US before in 2006. She is UK citizen and muslim, she is actually a scot from Glasgow. Anyway she is of palastenian origin. She was held hostage for 14 days in a prison in New Jersey, nobody was informed about her imprisonment, she was denied any phonecalls and rights. She was strip searched by 2 men. Multiple times. She had her hair shaven for "hygiene concerns". She was kept awake for at least 2 days (she saw the sun rise three times outside". She was denied food or drink for 3 days. She was told that she would be transferred to Guantanamo Bay where they know "how to deal with your kind". It took us 10 days after her imprisonment to visit her the first time. She was brought back to the UK in an orange prison jumpsuit and completely chained, after an 8 hour flight, needless to say without food and drink, guarded by 4 federal marshals. She has no criminal record, has 3 children and is married to a lad from Bristol. Her husband is a protestant. She hasn't visited a mosque in 12 years she told me.
Our company has withdrawn from the US market completely. All staff is advised to choose travel routes that avoid the US and US air carriers.
We closed our branches in NY, San Francisco and Houston and laid off 180 people in staff plus subcontractors (maintenance etc).
Currently i'd recommend to everybody who is not a caucasian white reborn christ to avoid the US at all cost.
Sorry, just wanted to tell you that you aren't alone. Lets get our governments to cooperate in this matter.
Land of the free.... my ass.

I don't buy it. People want attention and love to make up stories. There is no proof that this occured ( at least they haven't provided any). If you choose to believe this drivel simply because it fits your ideology, by all means. But don't look down at other who require proof for outrageous and highly unlikely claims.

I have never claimed such a thing. You're welcome to prove me wrong.
And even if I did, that has no relevance what so ever to this discussion.

While I must admit you were only the 2nd poster in the thread, not the originator, you made it blatantly clear you bought into it hook line and sinker. I apologize for blaming all conspiracy theories on the forum community on you, but my point and argument is still valid.

And do you deny that that you've claimed the Masons/Illuminati have destroyed our civilization multiple times?
#4408 Re: The Garden » Listen to the fascist sing... » 916 weeks ago
I'm more than glad to carry on an intelligent conversation with anyone. I fail to see a problem with refusing to admit people to our country who have no respect for our laws. It's not like she was a day or two late. She was three weeks late. Had it been important, she could have gotten an extention. That obviously is not the case.
The woman was investigated. Forgive me if I don't feel sorry that the airline didn't drop everything they were doing to expedite her release. She is not a citizen of the US and isn't protected under the constitution. If I were to overstay my visa in Iceland, I would not expect to be treated kindly when I returned with no effort to correct the mark on my passport.
You're making a mountain out of an ant hill here. This woman's complaint is that they didn't provide her with a four star hotel room and placed her in restraints as all possible threats would be treated. If they didn't shackle her, the ACLU would scream when the next Mohammed with C4 in his shoes was (yes, I know it's an exaggeration). Do I think her being detained and searched was necessary, of course not. But racial profiling is not PC so everyone gets equal treatment. She's not upset that she stayed in a room for a few hours. She's upset because someone knocked her off her pedestal.

I disagree. Polluxm is well known for outrageous claims. Claiming that the Masons have destroyed civilization multiple times to make us start from scratch and that we come from mars immediately comes to mind. While I don't know him from Adam and am certainly not qualified to judge his mental state, his beliefs echo the statements of those in sanitariums.
He and the like do a disservice to the millions killed under true fascist, authoritarian regimes when they equate a woman being detained for a few hours to being sent to death camps and tortured. America welcomes all law abiding visitors and is a beacon for freedom in the world. I refuse to take anyone serious who claims otherwise, ecspecially when they rely on fantasy to support their claims.

Where is all this change the Dems promised in 2006. With every passing day I become more sure a Republican will win in 2008.
