#41 Re: Guns N' Roses » Gn'R Live In London Sat. March 2nd VH1 » 654 weeks ago

i thought the show was awesome. i had a bunch of friends watching and they all loved it. i was watching with a critical eye and ear because i knew i would be discussing it with them. big thumbs up overall.

the thing that bothered me the most was it sounded like fake crowd noise was pumped into the mix throughout most of the show. there were times i would just focus on the crowd noise and there is no way there were that many people screaming that consistently. it got really annoying at times.

i also thought i heard a backing track of axl's voice at times. i need to rewatch it though...may have just been the other band members.

can anyone point me to a thread that addresses the financials of the band? or provide the info here? i am looking for the following:

1. who owns their back catalog?
1A. if someone asks about using a song in a movie/commercial/etc., who has final say?
2. was there an equal split of their profits back in the day? (i thought i read that Axl got 40% based on songs written or something.)
3. Was the original deal with Geffen much better than the typical deal? and if so, does Axl deserve credit for that?

1. who owns their back catalog?
Axl, Slash and Duff aka Guns N' Roses Music. Axl reportedly sold his part on the publishing earnings to Sanctuary but kept intelectual property (see 1A)
1A. if someone asks about using a song in a movie/commercial/etc., who has final say?
Guns N' Roses Music (see 1), and it needs to be approved by all three members.
2. was there an equal split of their profits back in the day? (i thought i read that Axl got 40% based on songs written or something.)
Actual figures changed album after album, but Axl had nearly 40%, I don't remeber the exact amount for each of them.
3. Was the original deal with Geffen much better than the typical deal? and if so, does Axl deserve credit for that?
According to Duff's book, the deal was pretty usual, but they had a lot of lawyers looking into the contract for them - an initiative by Axl, yes - that prevented them from losing the rights to the songs to the record company. Also, the deal was renegotiated after Appetite exploded, leading to LIES release. The deal was once again renegotiated for UYI, adding the infamous lines giving Axl the rights to the name. After Slash quit, deal was renegotiated and there has been several renegotiations since then.

thanks for taking the time to respond! 22

for a band with such a limited catalog, and limited life span of being really popular, they have done really well. AFD, Lies, UYI, plus 1 true mega-tour around the globe.

the thing that surprised me the most is steven adler being worth millions. i think i just assumed he was broke and needing to live off of whatever royalties he's still getting from AFD.

If axl bitched about his band mates on twitter, i have a feeling everyone would have an issue with it.

I guess i'm just old school. I believe u have an issue with something, u talk to the responsible individual instead of bitching to others and having that person hear it second hand.

If this was a sports team and a player bitched about his teammates, he would face a shit storm and he would lose respect of his mates, the organization, and the fans.

I cant respect someone that breaks the code.

Maybe BBF's greatest pain is the guilt he feels being a whore and selling his soul for $$. He should form a true "band" where all members actually have a say in things.

It seems obvious that you've just got a problem with Ron in general. Seeing as Axl has had plenty of things to say in public about current and former band mates. On top of that I've heard of many, many professional athletes taking to facebook and Twitter to do exactly what you're describing. Then of course there's the examples of Tommy Stinson (a member of the same band as Ron) doing the same thing.

In any case, if you've got a problem with Ron or what he did feel free to make your case but please do it without direct insults. As I've pointed out in the this thread prior, Ron is a registered user here and we do not allow insults of members.

sorry, i'll call ron by his accepted insult in here...he feels guilt for being a "hired gun." he clearly has issues with his "compromises."

just because others complain about their team or their band in public, doesn't make it right. i'm actually STUNNED that people think that is acceptable and normal. i don't have a problem with ron in general. i think i have made it clear what i have a problem with, and i don't care who does it.

in sports, if someone criticizes a team mate after a game it is major news.

i'll ask it again...what is the purpose of Ron bitching via twitter? cause the only think i can think of is to make axl and/or management look bad. he made it seem like they are putting people's lives at risk.
(my second "a few good men" reference in this thread.)

Maybe, but I would expect professional management of a band to act differently as well.  I'm embarrassed for all of them and have been for some time now, but it is what it is.

I find it hard to believe anybody could be embarrassed by what BBF said and not be embarrassed that the one-time greatest band in the world has been reduced to what it is today...

who is embarrassed for BBF and NOT embarrassed for gnr?

are you really calling fernando and family "professional"???

Why? Because he was being treated poorly and said something about it?

you mean he "tweeted" something about it.

he should handle it like a professional and talk to Axl or management. what is the purpose of tweeting a complaint about your band to thousands of followers?
