It must be hard to always do stuff in a group.

Therein is his problem. All of his solo albums definitely fall under 'serviceable', at least, with some great tracks. Slash knows how to make a blues-based rock album, no sweat. His Achilles' heel appears to be that he lacks the focus or motivation to work on it beyond a certain point. When it's recorded, mix, release, tour, repeat. That's the way he likes it.

When he has someone like Axl in his court, things change. The instrumentals are recorded and Axl starts to tinker with it. What Ax did with the UYI tracks is essentially producing. He has a ton of musical awareness, in terms of both music history and the things he hears. While Slash may be a bit aloof as to what there'd be to improve his stuff, Axl sees the many points to address in various ways, and if he keeps his whims in check, he can thoroughly elevate the work to the next level.

To me, that sort of coins the Slash-Axl working relationship. One is good in laying the foundation, while the other has a vision of what it could become. Slash's solo works are different beasts to Estranged, while Axl's works lack the unifying lead guitar. It seems they grew apart because, as time passed, they lost respect for one another's contributions. Axl could've elevated those 3-4 Snakepit songs, but Slash grew tired of waiting on him. Axl felt Slash was irreverent and replaceable. They both lost, there.

I was entertained because Ep3 was a throwback to the early seasons of the original series.

But to each their own.

My theory is that Slash has complained a few times in the media about how hard it was to write in VR - so I suspect over that period he came up with a lot of riffs the band didn't use - and busted them all out in that solo record.

Guns/Snakepit, anyone?

Coachella is what it is, a more recent generation shindig.

It's a good market for Guns, but I never bought it as 'The Place'.

They needed to announce it first to book others around it, methinks.

I think that photo, like many others, is passed around for publicity and thus, has been touched up. I recall seeing a shot of him playing the piano from one of the residencies, and it was obvious some of his chins were removed. As long as he can perform vocally at the optimum of his age, I'm fine with his weight. Having said that, losing a few pounds would help his performance. It's better than trying to sugarcoat the press photos after the fact.

The man's late for everything. Had the reunion happened a decade ago, it would've been something like this wink

They tweeted this pic recently.

What I noticed is that while Slash's and Duff's measurements are sound, Axl's pic is a bit skewed. Guess they wanted him to look a bit slimmer than he actually does in comparison to the others. That, or bad Photoshopping.

Then again I sometimes wonder what people will make of new stuff if they get it. Will those who find Anastasia bland and TWAT self indulgent really like a new song written by the two?

There you go. Sure, there's an album in the can and it would be fun to hear.
But when that happens, people'll start dividing again. Some'll like it, some won't.

If CD2 were to drop tomorrow, many of us would certainly appreciate it for what it is.
Others would tear into it with glee, wanting anything from 1996 tracks to new songs.

Axl has certainly brought a lot of this down on himself by allowing this progression.
I do agree that the back catalogue has been canonized to a ridiculous degree due to this.

We may as well lay back and enjoy the ride. It's amusing to watch the outside world go bonkers.
The forum nerds have an inside track now and we may all grin knowingly at their anticipation.

After the dust settles, maybe we'll have that album.

That sounds like a level-headed approach there, Buzz.

There's this one catchphrase Axl likes to throw out to characterize the situation.

'This isn't McDonald's or Burger King - it isn't 'Have it your way.'

Life's short. What we'll get from Guns depends on them. How we take it is on us.

What the hell are we bitching about today?

Hedonic adaptation.

After so many years, we get Axl, Slash and Duff.
After the initial rush, it's Izzy or bust.

After Izzy guesting, it's new music.
A never-ending cycle of demands.

Each acquiescence creates a new stipulation.
It's impossible for Axl to win everyone over.

Who exactly is in Megadeth these days, Dave?

Well, aside Mustaine, there's David Ellefson, who came back in 2010.

Their current drummer is a guy named Adler. Seriously.
