I think the surprise was meant to be the stage and set up as opposed to the set-list. I like the set-list anyway. I don't need deep cuts really.
Great set up. Looks like a good show, whoever took the photos did a great job anyway

I don't know about uneducated when it comes to music BUT I can say through my experience and in my opinion the Gn'R fanbase as a whole is likley the most redneck, whitetrash, piece of shit fanbase I've ever come across. Present company excluded of course. Seriously though read the comments posted to Gn'R videos on youtube then go and try your best to find a bunch of comments as eaqually stupid on any other video. It's almost impossible. I've long been a  believer that Guns N' Roses attracts a redneck, racist, biggotted, white trash fan base. Sad but true I think. It's like the UFC. It draws in the fucking retards and the cool fans are in the vast minority for sure.

That ^ is likley to offend some but hey when have I been worried about that 16

I think in the past that was true. Honestly I think that description fits Metallica & Pantera more. When I was growing up, I didn't know one single diehard Metallica or Pantera fan that wasn't a huge white trash redneck.

Guns N' Roses my experience was a little different. Yeah there was that white trash sect that still thought "One In A Million Axl was speakin' 'da truth" types that unfortunately that song brought in.

But what I found was when meeting some people from South America, even then (this was mid-to-late 90's), they ADORED Axl. They LOVED GN'F'n'R's and Axl especially.

So I would say growing up, about 30% of GN'R fans I knew were white trash (Eminem types), and about the other 70% were ALL hispanic. Specifically South and Central American heritage. There were some Mexicans, but alot more from further down south. Columbian, Perubian, Brazilian (tons of them), Argentinians (EVEN MORE of them), etc.

The only guys still wearing GN'R shirts by the late 90's were guys from like Hondurous and Peru and Argentina, even in my small rural community.

Yeah I think the redneck thing isn't really accurate anymore. That was more a reaction by somewhat racist individuals against the popular rise of hip-hop in my own opinion and that wasn't really helped by songs like 1 in a million or in the case of Panthera some of the things Anselmo has said over the years on the topic of race.

I once had a few drinks with a black muslim guy from romania who had the AFD cross tattooed on his forearm. I thought that was great. The days of racism in music are getting further behind us, shame the same cannot be said for sport.

I know when I came across GNR at the age of 14 that was it for me. No other rock band mattered. They could not be topped  so I didn't try to find anyone like them because they wouldn't have been as good. It wasn't until my early 20s that I discovered bands like Soundgarden or even Zeppelin would you believe because I just didn't need them. What could they give me that GNR hadn't already pumped to the limit and delivered to my ears.

Stairway to heaven? Estranged Eclipsed it for me.
Beyond the Wheel? Back off bitch.
Smoke on the Water? Sweet Child.
Brown Sugar? Brown Stone.
Enter Sandman? Welcome to the Jungle.

GNR were almost too good. They set the bar very very high.

Funny you should mention. Not sure if you were going for an Elvis tie in, but as I re-read the interview just now I couldn't help but think "This is what it would've been like if Elvis had taken care of himself mentally".

Wow. Very sad thought. It gives me the shivers. But yeah Axl does seem to have overcome a lot of his "issues". Which I'm happy for because they annoyed me to be honest.

I was definitely one of the people who thought" please shut up" when I read the sex abuse stuff in RS. Not because people should be quite about sex abuse, but because I felt like it cheapened it and turned it into a point of gossip and didn't really get at the heart of how prevalent and destructive a force it is. I felt he was using it to court sympathy for himself rather than to actually raise awareness.

I'm likely totally wrong there and if your reading this Dexter, I don't mean to belittle what you went through.  It's just when I saw it in RS, it felt insincere because it was in RS.
This interview however, is a whole new beast. Very genuine.

Just had a talk with a friend who said GNR fans R uneducated on music.
Her theory was this: Because GNR seem so perfect, many people never move beyond them. GNR fulfills all their rules for what constitutes the perfect rock band so they halt there and never discover other forms of rock n roll....

At first I wanted to punch her, but.... It may be right.
For instance how many GNR fans could recite the lyrics to Stormrbinger (Deep fucking Purple) ???
