It was inspired by a court date with ex-wife Erin Everly. ''I was sitting in litigation with my ex-wife, and it was the day after the bombing,'' .'' (Axl Rolling Stone. 2000) That was two days after Duff and Izzy recorded Toothpuller, Machine gun, down by the sea in April 95

The manager came to me and said Guns was coming in to do their next record and they had no producer or engineer and that needed someone with experience so I said "yes" and she also said they would be writing for two months and then recording for two months and they would be it (haha) seven months later. I bailed on good terms with Axl and the band but not with the studio”.(David Dominguez Sp1at)

“Some were three seconds long, some were three minutes long. Sometimes it was just a guitar lick. ‘Oh, that’s cool.’ They were transferred to CD. Everything had an ID and a number, then the CDs were made for each member of the band. They could go, OK, on set four, CD three, idea 15, let’s do something with that.’ Then everybody would take their CD home, get the part and write something to that. It was intense.(David Dominguez Producer 2010.12.DD - What's On Dubai)
I believe the ID system is on the locker leak discs too. The Rebel is J587 278 for example, makes me wonder how many of those discs there were in total
Ahh, that's cool and quite detailed. It was such a long time ago now lol.
I was doing alot of promoting years ago, so it was a fun thing on the side. The promoter game was a stress so it was good to do something else. When promoting, you are putting your own money out there and you only break even if 90% of the tickets are sold, then you make a bit extra from merch and refreshments. Ticket master make more because they own the venues so it's hard to compete
Thanks man, who did you promote? Anyone we know?

One more thing on that subject (CITR-Checkmate clips)....
They realized that they were allowing too many people access to these clips to shop around for more tracks. Instead of acquiring more tracks under the table with these clips....they started getting leaked instead.
After that fiasco...they stopped using other people for this and kept it in their inner circle.
Makes sense, I'd love to know names of other tracks that are out there in private hands.
Specifically the early stuff from 1998, I know that Oklahoma is out there but i wonder if Ides Of March is. Dave Dominguez told Sp1at that those two were the most finished and given he started there in January and left seven months later there must have been pretty complete versions between January and July of 1998.
According to the NY Times In 1998 studio technicians were burning as many as five CD's per week with various mixes of different songs to play Axl. I find it hard to believe none of them ever ripped any of that stuff.
We have no idea how much of that stuff is really out there sat on someones shelf or in someones locker.

I believe that tape is where the first version of Catcher came fromI mentioned this before...
This is why the Catcher leak wasn't supposed to happen. Its leak would highlight the fact there's more unheard songs. The 9 second clip that got out was only to be used as trade bait.
The community went crazy over it, wouldn't stop the insanity, and a few weeks later they went ahead and leaked it begrudgingly.
It is NOT a coincidence that the next trade bait clip that surfaced was Hard School/Checkmate....and need I remind everyone how quick that shit got shut down?
In hindsight I think if that had leaked in full, it might have caused a chain reaction...which is why it didn't happen.
DJ razz if i remember right. All his blogs about it are still online on the wayback machine somewhere. I think I re-read them last year.

Looks like Harschool does go back to Slash days if this is to be believed...
March 12th 1998
New GN'R song out on March 20th ?
Yesterday a friend told me that a new song by GN'R (probably not a cover) will be released on the 20th of March. This previously unreleased song will appear on the soundtrack for the Jackie Chan movie "A Nice Guy". The song was recorded before Slash left the band.
True or false? We'll have the answer soon...

Damned right. I want the original, too.
As Detective Columbo, my mom’s favorite TV character, used to say, just one more thing:
“It is widely assumed that I’m likely to have access to more leaks. I don’t. I’m not a hoarder, and I don’t care to have anything I can’t share. I know that there are about ten more Guns N’ Roses songs floating around among outsiders, but I forget the working titles that I had been given, and I forget the name of one guy I met that had them. I’m not just saying that; I really do forget these details. I didn’t care, because they did me no good. What I’ve heard left me somewhat impressed, as I recall, but I’ve heard no new songs more than once, and none all the way through. I can barely remember how they went. I do not have a photographic memory.”
The second disc of Chinese Democracy is circulating.
How do we hear it? What will it take?
These are direct questions to those who have already sat on the tracks for a decade.
I'm pretty damn sure there was a second skwerl disc...sounds like this was quickly retconned.
Either way...he mentions enough songs for the second disc.
Yeah... CD II has been circulating for eons... almost as long as CD.
Jarmo from the GNR fansite Here Today… Gone To Hell came across news of the leak. He immediately notified Fernando Santos, who checked it out, and then did a Whois lookup on Antiquiet.com to get my phone number so he could talk tough to me.”
It's funny and pathetic when one of the people who had already heard everything goes and tattletales because he doesn't believe the lowly plebs are worthy of listening to what he was already listening to.
Hell...he's still doing it! He criticizes anyone getting impatient for new material.
Yeah there's a shit ton of discs...many obviously overlapping.
Don't forget the "Classic Rock disc". They got to hear a disc containing Atlas Shrugged and Silkworms.
Some of what was on there may have been trade worthy - who knows maybe it did happen and those folk are keeping quiet and holding on to those tracks too.
Oh there was definitely more to that leak.
Hell...the Chairman even admitted this with the "more rasp" line.
There was also other trades going on at the same time.
I think the Classic rock situation was same as rolling stone, they were played songs in person but not allowed to keep the discs

Keep in mind, the source of demos that contained "99 IRS, TWAT & Catcher" that leaked in 06 also apparently contained Prostitute, Atlas & Hard School. We eventually heard close enough equivalents to those in the 2019 leaks but strictly those versions never leaked. There are people who have had that version of Atlas since the 00s and they have posted among us for years. Others will have different versions of these tracks from various points in time.
Others may genuinely have a close to final mix that was rumored to exist for a 2010 release. Others may have equivalents of that which were earlier and some may have later.
I've been told by some that they have the album art and back cover of CD2 with the tracklist. No idea if that's true but apparently they got hold of it when MSL got his trove of documents.
Hardschool but not Atlas it was not on that cassette. a scan of the cover is out there floating around the dark corners of the internet
GN'R 1999 DEMO'S
1.CITR
2.IRS
3.TWAT
4.HARDSCHOOL
I believe there are versions of Atlas but they are not from the same tape
