"At No. 3 with 261,000 is Guns N' Roses' Best Buy exclusive "Chinese Democracy" (Black Frog/Geffen), the first studio album of original material from the group since 1991. GNR's last studio efforts, "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II," debuted at Nos. 2 and 1 respectively, with 685,000 and 770,000 after being released on the same day in 1991.

Since then, the act has charted with a covers set (1993's "The Spaghetti Incident?" with a 190,000 debut), a live effort (1999's "Live Era '87 - '93;" 60,000) and the 2004 "Greatest Hits" package (169,000)."

Maybe for touring, but the original band would not have guaranteed album sales either.

They didn't piss away any part of their career. They were paid for their work and made more from Gnr than they would have made doing anything else. Robin got a better deal, saw the writing on the wall with Gnr, and left.

Canada showing some Gnr love...
GUNS N' ROSES: 'Chinese Democracy' Tops Canadian Chart - Dec. 3, 2008

GUNS N' ROSES' "Chinese Democracy", sold 70,000 copies in Canada in its first week of release to debut at position No. 1 on the national album chart.

I actually thought that was pretty clever....it isn't entirely negative.

GUNS N' ROSES' long-awaited new album, "Chinese Democracy", sold 261,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release (including a reported 25,000 downloads at iTunes on November 23 not counted towards the opening week) to debut at position No. 3 on The Billboard 200 chart.

In light of the fact that many of those are double (triple and so on) from die hards, I'd be concerned at this point if I were Uni.

I am quite certain that Uni has wiped their hands clean with Gnr, Chinese Democracy etc. Jimmy seemed very pleased in his recent interview with Billboard. The Best Buy deal got them what they wanted. Anything else is gravy......Best Buy is the one who needs to be worried because it was a one way deal.:nervous:

"You have to wonder if BB will try to leverage their weight to get Jimmy to agree to back out of the one way.
I think there are still 700k on the floor after the 700 shipped.
Not sure how much this helps BB stock price.
Someone has to take the fall and it won't be Axl.

Gould is on sands in the hour glass, though he did nothing wrong. "

I am straight up certain now that Axl cleared all his issues with Geffen/Uni....whatever happens after this is any ones guess. We are currently clueless as to the state of "Gnr" the brand, and it's potential future business endeavors. I still say don't bury Chinese until the New Year.

James, see my other post, he may be doing another set with different packaging and a different master. Way insane and it has NOTHING to do with who surrounds him. Axl runs the show and Axl makes the decisions. Period.
