I'll be real interested to see what happens if come "several months" and album sales are lackluster than what? Will it be more wait and see attitude from fans. If Better blows up big the album has a chance. If it doesn't I can guarantee fans will be saying "well they really haven't put out a radio friendly single. We'll just have to wait and see. Once a more mainstreme single is released the album sales will go through the roof" and blah blah blah.
I do love how Axl and co. have created this safety net of excuses. I mean now if the album fails(sales wise) it'll simply be due to poor promotion. It'll have nothing to do with the album itself.
I thought the album would sell real well right off the bat based on name alone but I've always been a believer that from here on out sales will suffer. I see know reason now to think otherwise. The album didn't sell near as well as I figured it would in week one so......
I think most hard core fans realize Better is the only real shot at a hit single in today's market. Like I have said, this thing will sink or swim by the end of the year. Week 1 isn't close to what I thought it would be either. In the end, Axl has no excuses. He had everything in the world going for him. Big money backing, plenty of time to record at his own pace, full control of artistic decisions, etc. It was his record. He made his bed, and he will have to lie in it.

Saul over at HTGTH (a real Buckethead connection) says the tour will be in place by Jan. He also said to expect album 2 by the end of 2009....Take it however you want. I would really like to see a theatre tour for Chinese where they play the whole album for diehards. It doesn't have to be a long drawn out tour....just something to properly promote this album and the musicians who made it.:buckethead:
He did not comment on whether or not Bucket would be involved.

Is it time to call the game over for the album? I'm betting today racked up some numbers, the single will lure more buyers, and it could have a slow build/burn to platinum status. Stranger things have happened.
I am thinking that 5 days out, the record is dead. Really. It's over in 5 days.

Izzy has buried the hatchet......Slash...no.

did you ever see his sex tape? WEAK! Not a lover or a fighter.....

Axl just met his match.
Simmons would crush Axl on his cheese sandwich snack break.
And Gene is right. Although it is a bit unclassy for him to make the molestation crack.
I'll go with the psycho redhead.......

people do know it is not the original lineup...no question and that has a lot to do with everything, but....but....AXL doesn't care what everyone else thinks. Is that not obvious? (I am not arguing...just sayin). Really, complete silence. It is very impressive and disturbing at the same time.

I believe this isn't how Axl intended for the album to be released. He must surely have realised he'd missed his window of opportunity, both with the 2000 lineup and again the '06 buildup. The music industry has changed so dramatically and Axls found himself without his first choice of band.
In my opinion Axls tired of the whole ordeal; much like a good percentage of the fanbase have been feeling. Instead of celebrating the release there are a number of die-hard fans who simply wanted closure, release the damn album and let's all move on. Axls failure to promote this album shows he's lost interest, he had no desire to drag this out any further by touring/re-recording; and so he called in new management who in their half-assed corporate ways bundled together a collection of songs, 11 of 14 we'd already heard and sold this version of "Chinese Democracy" as an exclusive to the highest bidder ~ Best Buy.
Axl has wiped the debt to his label in the process. Whilst Azoff will try his best to force Axls hand into a reunion I think its a safe bet that Axl will simply fire Azoff and return to his studio.
If anyone gets blamed I think it will be Azoff. Axl knows full well that Azoff will be thinking "reunion dollars", may as well play along with his wishful thinking if it means he'll clear the debt to the label. Now that he's done so Axl doesn't need him, if he wanted a reunion all he'd have to do is call Izzy and tell him to round up the troops.
I may not like the leeching "GNR family" Axl surrounds himself with but I won't underdemine Axls intelligence when it comes to business.
the Priest has weighed in over at the Velvet Rope...Downliner is not far off....
"I'm not sure it's in the best interest of something cloaked and veiled in mystique for over a decade, to pull back the curtain and destroy all of that mythical anticipation by streaming the fucking thing on MySpace to the tune of millions of play.
Fuck's up the wet dream, no?
Add to that the total mediocrity of it and you have a potential problem.
Of course it will limp to platinum or so here and Axl is the second coming in most countries across the globe, so sales outside of the US will be robust.
Gary Arnold took in 1.5 mm for BB on a one way at 8 or 9 dollars a clip, so that helps tremendously towards the P&L.
Bravo Irving on that one.
Now the real question is can Irving convince the boys to have a reunion?
Now THAT is where the money is and that is the end game.
Knowing Axl, the sulking period will be very long on the limp CD reception, so we have to wait a bit.
Unless of course, he does his usual and fires Front Line.
