I think Fortus is a better lead player than Finck as well. Just talking technical guitar playing ability.:/
#6063 Re: Guns N' Roses » My guitar complaint *spoilers included* » 914 weeks ago
Finck is an average contributor at this point.
Not counting a reunion, I think it's important for GNR's future to make sure they have Axl, Bucket, Ron, Paul (in studio at least), Brain, Dizzy & Chris going into the future. Even Tommy didn't make near the splash I thought he would. And Chris recorded a sub-bass on all the tracks anyways. So Chris himself could play bass if need be, and has - once.
At this point i'm convinced Robin, Richard & Tommy are all replaceable... and ironically... guess which ones are 'gone' right now?
Tommy is not "gone" anywhere as just last week Paul Westerberg said the Replacements aren't ready to get back together. He also said Tommy has his hands in too many pies. The main pie is Gnr my friend. Tommy plays on all the tracks but one and is a cowriter of two of the best songs on the album-Street of Dreams and Riad. I am sick of the "Tommy" discussion as he has been in the band for a solid 10 years....NEVER waivering. You have no clue what the fuck you are talking about sometimes.

That's the good thing about having 2 drummers, 5 guitar players, 1 bass player who needs to get paid, and 2 keyboard guys in the new Gnr family! You can always find enough guys to put a band together! Any combo of these guys could show up on the next tour

madagas - just because we get it doesn't mean we're the same people. Others get it, they just don't feel the need to subject themselves to crap like...well, crap like what you posted.
Your post comes off as a captain wanker post...does that make you two the same person?
my post was a joke! I was trying to be clever and I guess it didn't work. I don't think the song is a great radio song...certainly not as jingly jangly as something like Vertigo or Beautiful Day (just used them as an example because they were two really strong, catchy first singles by an iconic act).

Backslash wrote:buzzsaw wrote:This is your opinion, correct? I hate to break it to you, but I know a LOT of musicians that prefer a Slash/Hendrix style to a BH/EVH style. Many people list Hendrix as the best ever, yet he's nowhere near the technical player BH is. Yet somehow they consider him the best...interesting.
I haven't heard the new songs yet, but for GnR, I agree with the original post. I think Slash fits the style of the band better than BH does, and I'm not alone. I said that years ago and it still holds true today.
I was in your boat, buzzsaw, but then I heard some BH stuff that was pretty heavy. Can't remember the names or anything, but the songs were great. Too bad most of what he's doing in these songs are way way technical and less about emotion. I'd like to hear what he would've done if he concentrated more on the mood of the song and less on tapping his guitar like a clitoris.
I like a lot of BH's solo stuff. I don't think it fits what I see as GnR's sound, but obviously Axl feels differently and he has a little more say on it than I do. I think BH is an amazing talent, but I think it's misused in GnR.
actually, his solos on Sorry and TWAT are almost aping Slash. Sorry is straight up blues. If Bucket was allowed to do ALL the solos on Chinese, it would be a much better record. Bucket could have killed This I love as could Slash.....:headbang: maybe Axl lost the tapes or marked them wrong.

madagas wrote:they don't debut at number 1.....Texas doesn't understand that this single debuted higher than Nov Rain, You Could Be Mine, etc.....it was only a partial week. People are very ignorant sometimes. Billboard is reporting it because it DID WELL.
No Billboard is reporting it cause it's Guns N' Roses. believe me had it not done well they'd be reporting it just the same. Chinese Democracy is a story. Good or bad it's gonna get press.
buzzsaw wrote:Yeah, it's also based on airplay. The question then becomes "why was it played so often?", which is a whole different topic.
So true.
and the same goes for U2 and any other iconic act... Fact is that it is doing well. Better than You Could Be Mine did...last I checked, that was a pretty highly anticipated single with a ton of label support. Right? You also failed to quote my post about PAYOLA and the Azoff/Iovine combo....I do realize that any Gnr single at this point is going to get radio time. The machine will make it happen. Nothing counts on this record until it goes on sale. Buzzy and Bono sittin' in a tree.....I almost think you are the same person.

Now I am really happy I voted for McCain. It was a tough call but in the end, I believe my family is better served by McCain.
#6069 Re: Guns N' Roses » (OLD NEWS!)The Limewire Leaks Discussion » 914 weeks ago
well one sounds better than the other due to the fact one is an age old demo and one is not. removing may from the equation does nothing to help the song..imo..
The solo is only one part of the song. I personally like the beefed up guitars on the album version. Good thing is you have both now! Brian May will survive one way or another.....

well, I am listening to the demo right now and it would not have fit on the album quite as well in this simplified form and with the Brian May Queen like solo. I love the demo, but I think the album version will flow better with the other tracks on the album.
