Any thoughts that Slash, Izzy & Duff will play on his CD II stash and let him put it out?
They can't care that much about "GNR" if they've been gone over twenty years so why not?
I support anything that will get us studio material with Axl's voice (except My World). He has wasted the last 20 years and that is a real shame considering his vocal talent. We have a lot of studio material from Slash/Duff/Izzy during that time.

He needs to get his damn voice in shape. Otherwise this thing will be a disaster. But to tell the truth I don't give two shits about the live stuff at this point. I want some studio material, but it's not likely IMHO. Somehow I have a feeling these live shows will just be a big cash grab and then Axl will retire the GN'R name.

Didn't Goldstein claim that Axl was angry about Slash playing with Michael Jackson? Goldstein said it was about the child abuse allegations against MJ and the fact Axl was abused as a child. I think he was speculating when he made this claim, but it would not surprise me if it's true.
Tyler did very quickly say "no" when asked if it had anything to do with girlfriends. So I guess we can rule out that theory.

Which leads me back AGAIN... why Duff and not Dizzy Reed
Because Duff is the glue between Axl and Slash. Because he booked the Hell Tour where they all bonded. Because his punk bass is an important part of Appetite. Because he wrote the bridge for Jungle when the other two had writer's block. Because he wrote It's So Easy. And because Axl clearly thinks 3 of the Appetite 5 is better than 2/5.

The bizarre thing about today's musical climate is that its a singles driven era like the 50s.....just the technology has changed. No one generally cares about albums anymore....why should they? When SG released King Animal, people weren't buying it in droves(although it sold decent). They were buying its singles and of course on Rock Band. Albums and singles are simply promotional tools for your tour which is the opposite of how it used to be.
So on top of shitty music people are only interested in the shitty song on the radio and not the album that contains it. I predicted years ago that within 10 years the album format wont even exist. We're getting closer.
The good thing about this technology situation is YouTube. I remember a time (early 2000's) when I was first getting into GN'R. YouTube didn't exist and it was very difficult to download the full video files for music videos of songs like November Rain and Paradise City. Dial-up Internet was brutal for downloading a 6-9 minute video. Never got into the whole bootleg trading thing for live shows during that time because of how difficult it was to obtain material.
YouTube came along in 2005 and allowed everyone a chance to see all the old live shows in addition to the music videos. By this point I was in college and had a very fast Internet connection, so YouTube streaming was a great way to explore bands like GN'R. Even if the industry completely collapses and we never see another truly great rock band, at least future generations can access all this material that used to be hoarded and kept secret (or in MTV's vault in the case of music videos/Ritz 88).

Very valid points. Hell, Appetite almost ended up like those 12 stream albums you reference. The Establishment (MTV and cable companies) did not want it to succeed and I don't even think Geffen really wanted it to succeed after they realized what a mess the band members were (drugs, tempers, booze, etc). Luckily Zutaut fought like hell for it or I'm guessing I would have no idea who GN'R is or what AFD is.

James, you said on the other thread that you're too old. It's not that man. The music fucking sucks nowadays. I was born way after the heyday of bands like Zeppelin, Beatles, Floyd, Stones, Hendrix, Doors, etc. and I completely missed the heyday of GN'R/Metallica/Nirvana/U2 (born in late 1985). The music those bands created decades ago stands the test of time. Everything today is heavily influenced by computer technology to compensate for a lack of talent in the musicians themselves.
The movie industry has similar issues going on as the box office becomes more and more consolidated. Sequels and "franchise" movies are responsible for the vast majority of ticket sales. Basically it has all been done from an artistic standpoint both in the movies and in music. There is nowhere to go but down in terms of writing for songs and movies.

I haven't had this in many years. As you know I avoided all things old GNR during the CD era. I should pick it up. Watching a ranmdom video here and there on youtube isn't the same thing.
Is the release of Lies the only reason we didn't get a Nightrain video? It was a single, played on radio a lot, yet never got a video. They also could have squeezed a couple more singles out of Lies. They were such a huge craze at the time that neither album had to be milked of its singles. Funny in hindsight how in 89 the PC video is being played every hour as if Lies has been abandoned completely even though it was still on the charts.
There are so many great songs on that album and it's a shame that a lot of the casual audience is only aware of the Big 3 (obviously there are many millions out there who own the album). I wish songs like Brownstone, Rocket Queen, and Nightrain got more of a push from the label. Every one of those is strong enough to make a claim for the throne of best GN'R song.
The last 3 minutes of Rocket Queen...holy motherfucking shit. Everything about that is just perfect and it's probably the greatest album ender in rock history (along with Jungle as the greatest opener). Brownstone...the Bo Diddley beat has never been done better than that song and the sound of this one separates GN'R from every other 80's rock band. No one else sounded like those killer riffs, that punky bass, those groovy drums, and that unbelievable fucking voice. Nightrain is just a great example of kickass rock and roll. It would have been a heavily pushed single by a band like AC/DC for sure.

Slash wanted it to be like early Aerosmith and Axl wanted it to be like Queen ... and Slash felt that some of the less rocking stuff was better suited to solo work and Axl thought it should all be GNR to show diversity
If Slash had his way we never would have gotten songs like Sweet Child or Don't Cry. He's just wrong about what GN'R is in my opinion. It's not just straight forward hard rock. If that was the case then every song should have been a rehash, like AC/DC. Appetite had the "G" side for drugs/booze/violence and the "R" side for romance and girls.
Don't Cry was the first GN'R song written. This emotional element has always been part of the band. The fact that their ballads actually resonate whereas every other band of that time period came across like a joke for the most part kind of shows what made GN'R special. He wanted to fucking throw away the Sweet Child riff for goodness sake. Luckily for us Izzy and Duff stepped in and said, "Wait a second dude, you stumbled on to something great with that supposed clown/circus riff."
