NEEMO, also, I would imagine the same principles apply to older material as well. To put it simply, anything that is recorded under a proper recording contract could be up for the same copyright infringement argument. Whether or not the label, band, or RIAA pursue it is another matter. It appears, according to the Wall St article, that they are now going to start taking an aggressive stance on these type of issues.

neemo, you have no idea what is intended for release at this point so why speculate further. The FBI and RIAA was confident enough to arrest the guy so I will lean towards the fact that the music in question is intended for release at some point in the future.

James, the facts are Axl did not arrest the guy nor did he hire the FBI investigator to pursue the "COPYRIGHT" infringement. The RIAA did....those are the only facts available. You are the one assuming you know copyright law more than the RIAA, FBI, and Federal prosecutors. The Feds don't arrest you unless they pretty much have you nailed.

but James, please admit that you honestly don't side with Axl on any issues at this point...no matter what the facts are. As I said earlier, Gnr aren't completely out of the loop, but there are a LOT BIGGER people in play here.

no matter what side of the coin you are on, this whole insane debacle is funny as hell. You couldn't dream up a more fucked up rock and roll story in your wildest dreams.:haha: If he really wanted to go nuts with this, he would do that crazy sounding rumor and release ten tracks a month over the next 4 months. Dump the whole load by the end of the year. The story would be huge. Sales or no sales he would generate so much press that in the end and over the longhaul, the Gnr brand would prosper.

if it affects negotiations with Best Buy and Walmart, you are literally talking about millions of dollars at stake. I'm torn on this one and see both sides of the coin, both fan and band/label.

James, I know...they are all guilty...everyone who is involved in this debacle is knee deep. I am not letting Axl off the hook....I just think he has some big muscle behind this decision.
