14 I knew you would chime in at some point. It's all good. To each his own. Needless to say, I completely disagree.

we'll get it piece by piece if necessary....:haha:  I bet he tries to get Bucket back. He would be a fool not to.....Brain would come back to.

For example, I now feel that If The World is pretty "mindblowing" for a Gnr track. I mean, 70's funk with flamenco guitar, chunky metal industrial riffs, a fabulous solo and Axl. Pretty great stuff to me. The Bucket solo at the end of TWAT, to me, is "earth shattering". The sheer diversity of the tracks is "mindblowing" and we have heard probably only a third of the overall music. I don't care if the record sells and don't care if it has any hits. I just want a great album and I now think we are going to get it.

Sure, everything in these songs has been done at one point or another in the history of rock and roll. But, when taken all together, there is no popular hard rock band out there who has this kind of diversity and talent. You use Def Leppard as an example. They couldn't dream of writing a track like If The World or Track 2 or Better or Chinese Democracy. To impress David Fricke like that is a good sign....the guy is a true rock historian.

"and its deeply weird, in epic-reach and fuck-your-expectation ways that make me want to hear the whole thing pronto, "

The other issue is that we have simply listened to the songs so much, we are just sick of them! We have wore them out whereas a normal rock fan hasn't paid attention at all. They will just wait till the album comes out. They will be listening with fresh ears and no preconceived ideas as to what the album should or shouldn't be.:buckethead:

yes.......very much so and Tom Zutaut mentioned that EXACT thing in the Classic Rock article.

#6655 Re: Guns N' Roses » 'Mats A Reunion Gibson Dont Want To See » 932 weeks ago

Freese was the one who called Tommy about the Gnr job after Duff quit. As for the Mats, they will do something at some point, but it would never be on a scale large enough to pose problems for Axl's orchestra. If he leaves, it would be out of sheer boredom!

James, the topic was directed at multiple forum members. No big deal. And, I was just using VR as a symbol of old school, generic knuckle dragging rock and roll.

Slight Rant, I am quite sick and tired of hearing people use these phrases to somehow judge the album. "It's a good album but it is not "mindblowing". The entire band did NOT describe the songs like this and Axl has NEVER said anything to this effect. Tommy said these quotes in 2004. My problem is that all of this is subjective, including his opinion. To him, a guy who came from a very minimalist punk, singer songwriter band, songs with 32 piece orchestras, 2 keyboard players, three guitar players and Axl may be "mindblowing". Seriously, there is a lot of shit going on in these songs. It is not meat and potato rock and roll. It actually is pretty complex on some songs. You have to mix up to 10 different things. This is not three chord generic rock....especially Track 2 and If The World. Now you can say it is too busy, but to me it is not.....outside of Maddy, not at all. I love how If The World and Track 2 have space and atmosphere to the songs. Every second does not have to be covered by Slither type generic rock riffs. Let the song breath ......let's listen to other instruments.

David Fricke, one of the most respected critics in rock and roll has a pretty nice outlook on these tracks and I, myself could not have said it better....

"Three big, dark, snarling new songs from the longest-awaited album ever."

"'Chinese Democracy is nearly here - based on these nine tracks, reportedly in final mastered form - and its deeply weird, in epic-reach and fuck-your-expectation ways that make me want to hear the whole thing pronto, in something better than this pinched-digital fidelity.  Of the new songs, "Rhiad and the Bedouins" is the closest to the snarling-guitar rumpus of Appetite for Destruction.  "If the World" and a third, untitled number are - like the previously leaked "There Was a Time" - midtempo, big production orgies, the former with a dusky Seventies-R&B flair, the latter cresting in an hammering chorus with singer Axl Rose at the peak of his shriek.  The effect is bleak and brawling, like Elton John's Madman Across the Water reset in a ravaged hard-rock Hollywood."    - David Fricke

#6659 Re: Guns N' Roses » Who's your dream replacement for Robin? » 932 weeks ago

I would pick Izzy.....Ron can do Bucket and Robin....Fortus can cover Robin as well. We need Izzy for the coolness factor.

Obviously, I want Bucket back and let Ron do Robin but we didn't have that choice.:buckethead:

Dave, we first heard about Buckmaster doing the string arrangements for Prostitute in 2002. Now, he could have worked on it after that but the info came around the same time as we found out about Beltrami's string work. I still think all these leaks are from a cd used by the band for rehearsal prior to the 2006 tour.
