SCOM was number 4 and Bastards of Young by the Replacements was 3...here is there blurb and you can listen to the song at the site.
'God, what a mess'¦ on the ladder of success..'
God, what a great opening line..
This song is the ultimate rocker'¦ It is the template for the modern rock song'¦ It carouses.. it careens'¦ and it stomps.. and through it all it's got a great melody too.. a GREAT melody.. Paul Westerberg has one of the great voices of all time.. it's ramshackle quality perfectly fits with the sound of the band'¦ I love how he goes all out in the chorus after the solo.. which, by the way, is rousing and phenomenal.. He is also one of the greatest rock songwriters.. his pop sensibility is fucking enviable.. I've tried a million unsuccessful times to re-write this song.. not even getting in the same universe..
One more thing'¦ Best...Ending...For...A'¦Song...Ever..

Loving The Alien is one of the only VR songs I like.....some nice Slash licks there. He actually sounds like Mick Ronson from Bowie's Ziggy Stardust era. The song itself is very Bowiesque.

well, we know he had it so maybe it really isn't...

I hope I'm wrong because that means there is the possibility of another great song out there. It is just ironic that somehow we have all the other Buckmaster string songs...this song has string arrangements.....the setlist issue.....lyrics leaning too "prostitute". Buckmaster alleged putting strings on 4 tracks I believe....twat, blues, maddy, and prostitute....hmmmmm.

DCK, here is a verse where I believe he says Prostitute
"Ask Yourself,
What I Would Do
To Prostitute, Myself,
To Live With Fortune And Shame
Ooh, Yea,
When You Should Have Turned To The Hearts Of The Ones
That You Would Not Save,
Ooh, Now,
I Told You
When I Found You
All That Amounts To
Is Love That You've Crippled For Fortune And Fame!"
the last line is repeated twice in the song...the only repeated line in the song I believe.
"All That Amounts To Is Love That You've Crippled For Fortune And Fame"
in other words the bitch sold him out!

My point didn't have anything to do with BBF....it was about how a song can get castrated in the studio. It happens to a lot of artists.

I would like a Slash solo on the Blues , Chinese Democracy (finck's flat thin solo sucks and Bucket's is a little too odd), and Track 2. He would be good on TWAT as well but Finck's is actually very mellow and cool and Bucket slays the ending-sounding very Slashy and Jimmy Page at points. I would want Slash to put down some rhythm on the first part of TWAT actually. Finally, I think Slash would have been much better on the Madagascar guitar parts. Outside of the 2001 Rio live Bucket mindfuck, the guitar parts have gotten worse in my opinion. A great song was ruined by pitchy guitar melodies and a buried, muddy guitar solo. Just as a reminder, watch this and listen to how much smoother and more soulful the guitar parts are.

the whole song is so much more soulful and powerful...you also have background voices singing at the end and not 9 different Axl's...a case where a song got killed in the studio. Rio was Axl's coming out party and this song actually meant something then...you hear the heartache and determination at the same time. And, uhhhh Bucket slays showing you he can play slow when he needs to.

For the 300000000th time, Gnr has always been supported by Rolling Stone.....the majority of stuff written over the last 20 years has been very positive. Of course, they have a few negative moments but you can't always be on the take!:haha:

I think Slither and the main riff is one of the cheesiest rock songs of the decade.....no need for me to be in this thread. However, outside of a few Slash "moments", VR was not my thing at all so I really don't even want to compare. Not that the new Gnr is all that great, but Weiland has always left a very bad taste in my mouth, Kushner is pretty blah, and Duff/Matt just phone in some generic rock sludge.:/

Riyadh And The Bedouins
Had A Plan And Thought They'd Win
But I Don't Give A Fuck 'Bout Them
Cause I Am Crazy
on of the best Axl lines ever....hands down!
