#6821 Re: Guns N' Roses » finally a decent straight forward comment regarding CD » 940 weeks ago

James, like I have said before...handed in, finished, whatever...it is meaningless to the fans unless there is a set release date agreed upon by the band and the label.

Neemo, responding to your comments at HTGTH, nobody has the upper hand in these negotiations. Axl does owe them an album but he physically has all the recordings! What if he got really pissed and just leaked the entire album himself? He has what they want....not the other way around. 16

In other words, they have not turned the record over to the label. Common sense tells you that. If they are negotiating, then they are not gonna give them the album until the deal is completely done. A few articles simply took it upon themselves to say the record was turned in-no credible sources for that. Beta said the album was done, NOT handed in. You don't give them the only bargaining chip you have.

Izzy left in Nov 91 I believe....2 months after the release of the records.:headbang:

wow....can't say I disagree with one word in your post. 22

heavy lies the crown...obviously Axl overestimated his ability to "lead" and make all the decisions.

Axl tried to take over because Izzy was gone and he knew it was a sinking ship. His best buddy left and his other two friends were complete junkies. Not a very stable environment for making a record.

Here is what Marc Canter had to say just recently about the songwriting process of the original band. He may know a little more than we do. Pretty common sense stuff but it is pretty accurate.

"They were the perfect team of songwriters for that time and place and where they were in their lives. Slash knew what to do with whatever Izzy and Duff came up with and Axl knew what to do with whatever Slash came up with. It was a great team effort. The balance was perfect Slash was hard rock and blues. Duff was punk. Izzy was right in between them and Steven's drums fit well and Axl put his magic to all of it with a lot of lyrics and melodies which was so important in the way the songs came out. Axl was sort of like the producer in the way the songs got finished. "

Now, that sounds very similar to what Tommy said a few years ago about the new Gnr songwriting process. Axl is essentially still doing the same thing now as he was on the Illusions.:peace:

Listen, I don't understand how they do it either (industry wide) and I agree that Slash should have definitely got something for Estranged. Jorge, my words on Coma and Locomotive were a bit over the top because those are obviously great great rock instrumentals-two of my all time favs. But, I love the effects and lyrics that Axl put to Coma. I truly think it was his shining moment lyrically. And, I just love it when those chicks are bitchin at him and then the last one goes "I love You." Being a Pink Floyd fan as well, I dig over the top production and effects.....sometimes!:peace:

read my post above your last Neemo..of course great music is made in a collaborative effort. But, that has little to do with writing credits.

#6830 Re: Guns N' Roses » Weiland identifies with Axl - RollingStone » 940 weeks ago

the record stands as is. I am listening to Whipping Post right now by the Allman Brothers. It is credited to Gregg Allman only because he wrote the song and had the basic idea for it. However, the song obviously needs the guitar licks of Duane and Dickey to make it what it is.In the writing credit process, lyrics and melodies hold more weight than the instrumental. It is just a fact of the industry and is not specific to Axl Rose and Gnr. Everything just seems to be some big conspiracy that Axl stole everything from the rest of the band. It is silly and it is permeating every post in every thread these days.
