#701 Re: The Sunset Strip » HBO's A Game of Thrones » 593 weeks ago

Finally got through to the end of season 4 with this, I'm fashionably late to all good tv. Nice to be able to read all this thread and get up to speed as well!

Love it, great show. I've only read book one so most of the tv show is/was fresh to me. Thought the end of season 4 was very strong, three great episodes at the end that all could have been a season climax in their own right.

Hidden Text:

Gutted Oberyn died he was a good character but what a way to go, jaw dropping scene.

Hopefully the Hound is still alive, I was expecting him to have a big battle with his brother at some stage. Although it seemed like they were teasing the Mountain to become some sort of Bane type figure in the final episode?

The Castle Black seige was epic. Like others said the shows overall focus on kings landing/Dany possibly reduces the impact but they had been building to it since season 2 so it still had meaning for me.

Not expecting the Tywin death at this stage (assuming he is dead), I thought his character would run and run. Although it does leave the Lannister grip on the throne via Tommen on shaky ground which should be interesting.

Glad Tyrion made it through the season, it'll be interesting to see what becomes of him and Varys.

I've gotta say though no matter how important he's undoubtedly going to be I just can't get interested in the Bran plot at all. The Stannis stuff is often a struggle as well.

I just think he's watching to see what the next move is. If he was totally out he'd just say so I think. Whatever opinions people may have on Ron as a player he's always tried to tell it how it is and if he was totally gone I think he'd be clear about it.

As it stands there's no official activity in 2015 we know of Guns-wise anyway and as it seems (from recent interviews) he's more of touring player than any sort of studio influence, I guess if they aren't touring he's not really in the band until called upon. Perhaps that's just how it views it now and he'll look at it again if/when he gets a call.

I'd never really heard the full story to that until now. Interesting. Certainly gives a lot more validity to Axls actions than I'd considered previously.

I like it, think I must be the only one. Much prefer the quicker tempo. The Stones version is a bit too ponderous imo.

Hook, Mrs Doubtfire, Jumanji were 3 massive films of my childhood, I have watched them all countless times. Very sad to hear this news, it feels like a small part of my childhood has gone with him.

Shame if he has but can't really blame the guy. I think if he was out he'd just say so though he's not one to play games.

Perhaps it's more like he's just having nothing to do with it until there's an indication of moving forward.

The fact these guys have been in a band for 14 years give or take a member and not been in a studio together for at least 10 is one of the biggest crimes of the new guns era, so much wasted potential.

#707 Re: Guns N' Roses » Tokyo '92 vs Vegas '14 » 617 weeks ago

I personally think the Tokyo dvds are poor, nobody could touch GNR from that period when they were on, I just don't think they were 'on' that night. So many classic shows that could have been used for the dvd from that era, it's a crime the only official pro shot we have is from that show. Not seen the vegas show yet so I can't compare but as a show it wouldnt be hard to top Tokyo, lineup wise give me 92 all day long but show for show Vegas 12 could easily be superior.

For me the best new lineup show is Rock Am Ring 06, first time they really looked like a band rather than assembled musicians. Axl sounded killer as well but more than that he really fucking WANTED it, thuere was a hunger in 06 that wasn't there in 01/02 and we haven't seen very much since IMO. In fact I'd go so far as to say Rock Am Ring is one of the great GNR shows of any era.

Like I said above there were no great teams this year unfortunately. Then again maybe it's the confidence of winning a tournament that makes a team go from good to great. Spain went from strength to strength after 08, could easily be in for a period of German dominance now, I certainly don't see anyone challenging them at the next Euros besides maybe a rejuvinated Spain.

Enjoyable tournament overall, not sure it's been the greatest ever like some are claiming though. Also gutted to see Ronaldos goal record fall to Klose. It's like watching someone break the land speed record in a Transit Van.

England did what they always do, over respect everyone. Italy and Uruguay were no better than ordinary, we could have won both those games but we beat ourselves.

The media took its chance to get back at Suarez after he knocked England out but frankly he deserved a big ban. If he can't get the message he'll keep missing chunks of his career through suspension.

Enjoyed the tournament so far, the only downside is its lacking any real quality sides. Whoever wins the cup will be remembered for winning a great tournament but not for being a great team. I think if Spain had been in an easier group and built some momentum they'd be the team to beat now but they couldn't recover from the battering by Holland.

I'm still going for Argentina, they've not been excellent but as I pocked them months ago I'll stick with it. Whilst you have Messi on your side you'll always have a chance however average the rest of you are.
