Would any of you say that Cobain is as good as Dylan?
That's what alot of critics have said. Just curious for the thoughts.
I'm not being a dick but the whole Dylan thing confuses me. Sure he's great but more maybe it's more for his integrity than his lyrics?

I guess Hughes is renowned by association. He had his time with Deep Purple, Sabbath, and that meteoric comeback single with KLF.
For those who can't remember, KLF was HUGE back in the day, and the collaboration bought Hughes good-will and industry credit to burn.
It's amazing how much money the record industry is willing to spend on a piss-take on themselves.
His work with purple is great, the 2 albums with BCC however are possibly his beat work.

Absolutely.
Fair enough then, from that point of view Dylan holds superiority over those older guys.

Dylan's songwriting destroys Berry's songwriting and pretty much everyone else's songwriting in the last 60 years. There are very few in his league from that standpoint. As far as the before and after thing goes,
Bold statement. Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Van Morrison and David Bowie disagree.
Dylan isn't the one most people bring up. It's usually Elvis or the Beatles.
Debatable.
As far as electronic music goes, again you seem to be bringing up musical sounds instead of songwriting.
Are you prepared to draw a line between the two?
Go listen to Masters of War and tell me it didn't take huge balls to write a song with those lyrics in the 1960's. That's the type of shit that gets you assassinated.
It took huge balls. therefore he has huge balls. If being the greatest songwriter of the past 40 years was a question of balls he would win hands down.

Seeing they devoted an entire episode to Hair Metal, GN'R's debut was the transition from glam metal to grunge. It's not a bad show, not ragging it. Just thought it was odd that they didn't even play a song from the band, when they kept getting mentioned.
GNR Ain't really metal. Love this show btw, they really nailed the evolution of metal in my mind.

We need an age limit on this thread, it's getting out of hand.
