I saw There Will Be Blood yesterday. Daniel Day Lewis should clearly get the Oscar for best actor. Unfortunately, Jonny Greenwood's (Radiohead's guitar player) score for the movie was disqualified for the Oscars because he used some music that was previously written for other projects. The music was absolutely killer. To be able to put modern sounds to a movie set in between 1898 to 1927 and make it effective is quite an accomplishment.

James, that was the great thing about the band, they had a young crowd plus the grabbed the classic rock crowd. Axl is probably trying to do it again but it is obviously much harder when you are 45 and your band members are late 30's early 40's. I don't know if he can do the young thing and you don't want to exclude the old crowd who is accustomed to buying cd's.
Neemo, I agree...the 50 crowd won't be there but my age could be. Anything Axl's age and under is fair game.

Neemo, well, I'm 41 so I have an idea as to what the older demographic thinks.
My friends still like to rock and we are corporate dorks.

I am not overvaluing the brand name, but it is worth something. We don't know what it's truly worth because OMG was not a full album release. Soundtrack songs generally aren't meant to be the lead single on your 16 year comeback album. I do agree with your other points James. Forget the young crowd, go for the older dollar. If he gets lucky with a hot single, then they may have a shot at the young bucks. The money is with the older crowd anyway.

The Eagles sold close to 2.5 million in a few months with little to no radio exposure.....that is the only thing comparable to the Gnr situation at present. I am not saying Gnr will do that but the brand will help push a few more units. The first single is absolutely huge.

James, Axl would be nailing Mia 2 shows in to the tour. Also, Faith No More and a few others weren't to enamored with Axl from 91-93 either.

I really don't think Gnr should take out any opening acts anymore. They only get bad press from these guys and no real benefit of adding a new audience. The Gnr crowds are quite hostile too them as well.
