Not much in 2014 - or the next year, for that!
But figured it's handy to have all the stuff in the same thread, if only for peeps to see what a demented journey CD2's been having.
Looking at Fortus' comments, there was a definite shift in tone in May 2013. He pretty much admitted from thereon out that Guns were doing something in the studio again, only poor Ron was completely out of the loop.
#722 Re: Guns N' Roses » Fortus says new music and tour in 16 » 562 weeks ago
Well, someone over at MyGNR apparently asked CD co-producer Caram Costanzo last month about whether he's involved with CD2. Caram denied this. He did live sound for the band in 2010-12, and MSL said he was still owed backend monies for CD at the time. If true, it's beginning to look like Pitman's taken over the studio monkey role. I'm sure he's technically up to snuff.
As for everybody else, remember the Radar Online rumors?
“Band members have been told their calendars are free following Vegas,” a source close to the band tells RadarOnline. “Axl (Rose) is considering retiring and it’s done. Band members and support staff were surprised when told the news and are actively looking for work.”
Everybody clinged onto the retirement rumor, and conveniently overlooked the fact that the Guns calendar was left wide open after Vegas. What might've happened there was Axl unceremoniously wrapping up the CD era. There's enough material in the vaults to compile new releases, which he only needs to dress up on his own time. Him and Pitman.
Everybody else is likely out there, waiting for the call to happen. Given Diz and Frank were involved in that recent (lame) Nightrain contest, they're both still 'involved', so to speak. Ditto Tommy. Fortus is a good sport to take Dizzy along over to Dead Daisies. Pitman and Frank have the Beatrazr thing going.
DJ and Ron both likely left just because. According to the 'confirmed source', "[Ron] quit [in March/April] in South America. He told Axl he was done and (Las) Vegas would be his last run with the band." On the first day of the Vegas residency, news broke out that all bets were off. Ron may have simply advised TB that he would use the layoff as his cue to leave the band. Alternatively, Ron smelled the coffee by the time Duff came in and wanted to leave - Axl laid off the entire touring band in response. Go figure.

Image tweeted on Dec 3rd, 2014, by both Pitman and Axl.
We’ve worked more on some of those things and we’ve written a few new things. But basically, we have what I call kind of the second half of Chinese. That’s already recorded... But after Vegas, we’re going to start looking very seriously at what we’re doing in that regard.
Two weeks prior to tweeting that image, on Nov 20th, Fortus spilled some beans in a guitar workshop.
DJ and I've worked on stuff, nobody's worked on stuff with Ron, but yeah... What'll [Axl]'ll do is that he'll take a little piece that I sent, he'll take a little piece that DJ sent on another track... He'd take a little piece of this, and a little piece of that, and they put it together... He's got a real talent for that.
Some of them he's working on as we're here, 'cause I know in this week, he's recording a lot of stuff, vocals, yeah... Some of the stuff Slash did, you know, that was like the beginning, the seed of the song, that's been around for a while.
There was something going on, with Axl and Pitman. Who cared for the guitarists, they'd played out their parts. Now, two of them are gone, as we've hit a downtime slump. Gone like the Stay of Execution trademark application. All these small hints have been brought up, and seemingly abandoned.
The Vault contains the other half of CD and a remix album, with more tracks done in after Vegas.
If you're waiting, don't. Living on Axl's clock is any good only if he pays you for it.
Speaking of which, Fernando posted in HTGTH.
There will always be the could of done better, should of done it this way, should of done it that way. Things could of been handled differently, however they weren't and here we are. I know it isn't ideal, and what's not ideal; gets turned into whatever one's perception of the situation is and then the forums flourish with discussions.
Some of the points made on this Forum or others are read and even the most negative ones help in some way. I do apologize if updates aren't as frequently as you would like them to be. But it doesn't mean that there isn't one, just maybe, only maybe that update isn't ready to be made.

I think waters soured when he kept criticizing the "old music" and started on about writing new stuff. I think publishing was a big issue. A GNR album would sell incredibly more than any of his solo shit put together and it would be a CD deal where he gets paid but nowhere near what he'd get for writing like the other band members.
I'm sure Axl wants the CD stuff out (with whomever playing on them) before anything else. Sitting on them is smart, in a way. I'd imagine the general atmosphere would be more favourable than in 2008. What he'd need to generate massive interest would be Slash on a few tracks.
DJ was always very supportive on the unpublished CD material, whereas Ron talked up a new album by the current lineup through the fans and the press. He certainly had a point, but when has Axl started doing requests? Ron was always saying it how it was with Guns, for better or for worse. It was more against Beta than Axl, specifically, and it's fairly easy to believe Guns management is more about catering Axl than being all-around professional. This has been their way since Alan Niven left.
Then again, remember One Man Mutiny in September, 2010?
Guns N' Roses bassist Tommy Stinson is considering his future with the band after a catastrophic show in Dublin tonight during which the group left the stage for almost 45 minutes at the behest of frontman Axl Rose. Sputnikmusic witnessed Stinson in a heated argument with road manager Del James following the show, which saw the Los Angeles band take to the stage an hour and a half late before leaving after just four songs.
Frontman Axl Rose had threatened to leave when a plastic bottle was thrown on stage at the beginning of 'Welcome to the Jungle,' and stormed off stage when a second was thrown at the conclusion of 'Mr. Brownstone.'
Stinson was heard to shout:
"That's my fucking family up there and he put us in danger again.
"He can't keep doing this. Nothing happened this time, but next time we might not be so lucky.
"This has to stop."The band returned to stage after a long hiatus, during which a third of the paying audience left, and performed almost a full set. They finally wrapped up at 1am, an hour and half later than the venue's scheduled curfew.[1]
'One Man Mutiny' was inspired by a conversation between our tour manager Del James, Richard Fortus [GUNS N' ROSES guitarist] and myself somewhere in Ireland.[2]
We had an inner-bus conflict going and by the time we got off the bus that morning I was like, "Man if you guys are having a mutiny, don't include me just 'cause you've gotta bitch. When I got my issues I'm a one man mutiny!" And it just kind of stuck in my head. One of our managers, Del James, was laughing at it; he thought it was really funny. I had the words written by the time I got to Brussels.[3]
It had been a rough ride up to that point. The Dublin show was fourth on the European leg, and third to feature stoppages. The first two were Leeds and Reading, during which Guns had some embarrassing curfew moments and a lame ass attempt at rebellion after being notoriously late. All this obviously pissed band members off, as they were the ones actually dodging bottles.
A few shows later, "Bumblefoot's birthday is celebrated with Axl introducing him with "to my far far, and I mean far right, Ron Bumblefoot Thal" [4]. Interesting for Axl to emphasize the 'far right'. Knowing Ron's outspoken nature, it's certain plausible he was involved in the mutiny, with Axl taking note.
It all turned petty and sour in the end. Tommy's approach, the lyrics to One Man Mutiny, is all about being disillusioned about 'what it is'. He should know, he's been with Axl since '98. It's a tough job, which you take for the excess and the payslip.
I won't rest until I'm free of your phony empathy
Look what it's done for you
You think you got the good life
But you ain't fooling me
That rang to me as a dig on the likes of DJ, Frank and Ron; people who came in after the songwriting to become 'very excited' touring members.
#725 Re: Guns N' Roses » BUMBLEFOOT Says There Are 'Enough Clues Out There' » 563 weeks ago
"he's just gotta have enough guys up onstage to bust out Jungle." & it's prob been that way since, god knows, '06? when BH left? before then?!
in those fleeting interviews or q&a's he said he wanted a band. maybe that was way back w/kurt loader in '99??
these days the band is a touring band. Bumble even says if there is an album it's old stuff.so there you have the state of the 'band'.
Axl's band were the guys who wrote and recorded CD in '98-'01. Robin was his Randy Rhodes. Bucket was... well, Bucket. He fell for their guitar sounds, and both were zany enough people to appeal to him.
Both Robin leaving in '99 and Bucket in '04 were bitter moments for Axl. He appeared to have felt they would've been as eager to forge on with Guns as he was.
Ron was hired at the last minute when they failed to get Bucket (or any other proper replacement). Axl probably liked Ron well enough as a Gilby. However, he only had Ron play on existing tracks. Never taking in guitar riffs to cut-n'-paste 'new songs', like with DJ and Fortus.
Ron's job was to finish what Bucket had started (and left hanging), and he did that much.
Ironic. Ron got a good dose of Guns management right off the bat in 2004, when he blurted out to his fans that he's in talks with Guns. Then, they shovelled him enough money to forget about it in 2006. He knew what he was getting into, but he was a fool to think he could change things.
Kudos for trying, tho.
#726 Re: Guns N' Roses » GN’R Reps Confirm Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal Has Left The Band » 563 weeks ago
GNR drummer Frank Ferrer, however, said in an interview this week with Stone Chrome Radio that the group is "forging ahead;" "There's a plan in place, and it's happening, so that's all I can say."
1. Tell Ron to tell the press he needs to shut up about Guns. NDA starts now.
2. Allow the trademark application to lapse. Plausible deniabilty for 'new album'.
3. Read the letter DJ sent. Did he leave?
4. Tell the press Ron needs to shut up already.
5. Read the news. There must be something to tweet.
#727 Re: Guns N' Roses » Stay of Execution » 563 weeks ago
As ever.
There are no immediate plans for Guns N’ Roses. I have heard from our management that next year we’re going to be working. I’m hoping we’ll have an album out next year. That would be great! Then we are supposed to be doing some touring. Until then, I’m staying focused on The Dead Daisies!
The Frank bit from the other thread.
For what it's worth, Frank done an interview http://www.stonechromeradio.com/uploads … x_7_29.mp3 basically in between the hosts asking him pointless silly questions and talking more than Frank... the gist is:
Frank says Axl and him texted about DJ. Axl and said that plans will still go forward in the future. Supposedly everyone still gets along and Axl is fine with Ashba leaving.
#728 Re: Guns N' Roses » DJ has left GNR » 563 weeks ago
The hangers on are now drooling over Slash? That's a game changer.
Are most now wiling to admit this new GNR concept just didn't work out & now want it over with?
Patrón,
The New GnR (as in, post-96) never worked properly for one reason, Axl Rose. He was simply too insecure with the combined stature of Guns and the working environment the old band treated him with. With his personality and work habits, not to mention the awkward personal clock, he struck out in the only sort of band in the world that would have him. Him, a manic-depressive loudmouth with nothing much to show for himself as a songwriter, aside the songs like Back Off Bitch he did in Indiana, with the one guy in Lafayette who happened to tolerate his BS.
So, take that sleazy rock n' roll machine that is Slash, with Duff and Adler and throw Izzy, the Hoosier comrade, into the mix. That's an insanely good band for what they are. Sure, all have issues, and they were only fucked up enough to stick with a fucked up frontman - this window of opportunity created the lightning in the bottle. Guns could've just as well been a latter-day Hanoi Rocks, stripped from greatness at the verge of a breakthrough.
Axl's fortunes include the fact that the band is autonomous. They just jam, write stuff and send it over. 'Pick stuff, do those notes, play us records you like, write lyrics, shut up and sing.' They're doing it with low-maintenance on the reclusive frontmans part, so he can settle to be himself, listening to a ton of music and work on questions of personal identity. Axl's a pretty self-absorbed guy, or rather, preoccupied with the rollercoaster of being Axl. It's easy to ridicule him for that, but imagine actually being him for a day. For instance, the day of Montreal '92, or Rock in Rio '11.
One day, his entire band was been altered into That One Guy from Indiana, along with That Additional Musician. Axl wants to make an album with them, but everybody else wants them to sound like That Sleazy Rock N' Roll Machine. Axl uses guile - 'dive in and find the monkey'. I quote, the infinite monkey theorem states that a monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type a given text, such as the complete works of William Shakespeare. Record long enough and you'll come up with Axl's Vision for the next album that will sound like the logical progression from UYI.
So, That Guy now had millions of dollars and all the time in the world for his troubles. It's funny to think how people complained about the wait, in a sense. You have a person who may or may not be in the city on the day of the show. He may not show up for the first three hours. He may not show up at all. You never knew until he did. A decade later, it was still all too real. He missed the opening show of his US comeback tour. He sat out another, likely fuming at ClearChannel and their 'ridiculous demands'.
That Guy is the boss of all and you wonder if it blows up?
But how I see it as Slash can come back to Guns and if they should record and release something, it would be the Axl idea of progression, which Slash would serve to execute in terms of songwriting. If it would be the way to releases, I'd go for it.
As for DJ...
I didn’t join Guns N’ Roses just to come in as ‘a guitar player’... This is the first real gig I took on outside of doing my own thing because I felt I really could bring something to the table not as a guitar player, but as a songwriter and producer. That’s what gets me excited about being in the band... that’s the number one priority for everybody at this point. - 2012
He contributed the equivalent of guitar riffs like Slash used to. Axl may use them, eventually. More likely, if DJ keeps in his good graces. That means writing credits and royalties. Elsewhere in the news, his other band is picking up. In Guns camp, this is Robin going out to tour with Trent all over again. There's certainly many enough people willing to step into his shoes.
#729 Re: Guns N' Roses » DJ has left GNR » 563 weeks ago
Put Duff on rhythm and Fortus on lead, and you have a touring band that can handle the back catalogue.
The CD songs could be done by arranging them to two guitars.
Now, if Fortus leaves, it's reunion or bust.
#730 Re: Guns N' Roses » DJ has left GNR » 563 weeks ago
But the most beautiful surprise of all was YOU... the fans. You welcomed me into your lives with open arms and showed me love and support that I could only have dreamed of.
You were so accepting.
