@apex - I don't want a reunion anymore. Furthermore, I would _hate_ a reunion if it would happen in Axl's current state. He can replace everyone in the band with the original members, but he can't bring back the old Axl, who once ruled the world, and all we'd have is his parody version. Thanks, I don't need that.
Thanks for clarifying your stance.
So, to you, Ax is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't, right? Neither the current band or the reunited AFD/UYI/TSI lineup could win you over because Axl is 20+ years older now and has, granted, lapsed since his middle-age peak in 2006-7. You're making it hard to please yourself by setting the bar that high with this band

Mikka, I'm going to leave aside the speculation on who's whose best friend in the original Guns, since we don't know these people personally and at the end of the day, have no idea. It's a tangled web as most band relationships are, with divided loyalties and vested interests all around. I could argue that the Axl-Slash bond is the strongest one in all of the band, that Axl loves Slash from the bottom of his heart. Case evidence is his long-standing hate towards the dude; the opposite of emotion is indifference, and Axl is anything but indifferent with Slash. I wager Slash has gotten over the breakup better by establishing himself as a musician outside of Guns, whereas Axl has always presented himself as a part of a package, which once included Slash. That's why Axl is so damn stuck with the past and wants Slash back, don't expect Guns to move an inch otherwise.
Anyway, the most likely scenario is that Duff will play with Axl, maybe Axl will get his shit together a little bit more not to be ashamed in Duff's eyes, the crowd will be happy, the online fan base will have something interesting to watch and listen, and jack shit will happen considering a full reunion or a civilzed Axl-Slash-relationship. I still think that the So Fine-setlist is an April's Fool joke, but let's hope it'll happen and Axl will not butcher it. Maybe Duff's mission is to save Axl, cause he saw some Brazilian shows and knows that now Axl needs his help.
I see this only as a good thing.
Are you pissed because there's no reunion, just Duff helping out an old friend? With Guns, we take what we can get. Duff playing with Axl in this day and age is a breath of fresh air and certainly beats 'just touring'. Let's take it for what it is and hope for some quality boots from those shows.

Well, Duff rates Axl as a Good Friend in his biography, even if he obviously has a lot of history with Slash. As Duff put it, in 1994, as he began recuperating from his pancreas operation, Axl visited him in a Seattle hospital, the only band member to do so (the others were quite wasted). As Duff began his sobriety, he took on various interests, like reading, kickboxing and GNR musical direction. Yup, he was on the phone with Axl a lot. Slash was offering the Snakepit demos as his songs on the next album. Duff and Axl both viewed them as too Southern Rock for GNR.
Duff was the guy on two stools for the remainder; now sober, he was now separated from Slash and placed in as Axl's right hand man. Effectively, Axl had band control by having Duff on his side. Duff was sober and Axl the health nut make good company. Both wanted to make an album with Slash, who was a chronic alcoholic. Duff went to Izzy and wrote new songs with him, Axl went to Paul Tobias, and they too, apparently, wrote songs. Duff stayed with it when Slash left, and the prime reason for him jumping ship was his wife's pregnancy and the reset of values he experienced.
Only after Live Era and the OMG single did Duff rise to 'back his boy' by berating Paul Tobias along with the rest of them. He always appeared more fine with the teetotaler guitarist than Slash, who couldn't even "have a beer with him". So, I'd hate to explain those things so easily.

Smoking Guns wrote:I think if Duff had some real integrity and back bone he would say, "If Slash can't play I can't either" and leave it at that. That would take balls.
Maybe Duff doesn't need the money that much, he doesn't need Axl's "friendship" that much and he doesn't want to ease the Madman towards Slash that much... maybe he has plenty of free time and wants to piss Slash, cause the Top-Hatted One has been blocking VR for 7 years now. I'm not saying that this is the scenario, but about as legit as any other explanation.
Just thinking, do you guys think there was any bad blood between Izzy and Slash/Duff after he broke the ice and started playing live with Axl in 2006?
Pretty much the same deal to me, all of them know the score in Axl Land.
Say, have you heard this one?
If you read /jarmo phonetically out loud, the first thing you'll say is Slash...

So I guess this story is a little bit different, and noone can pretend it's 1993 again.
Not unless their calendars are screwed and they live under a rock. However,
The replacement member is unavailable for a handful of shows. Rather than canceling, the band hires the original member to perform in his stead. That's what happened with Gilby/Izzy, and that's what's happening with Tommy/Duff.

I think it is cool of Duff, but like I said, again, Axl gets away with murder. If the old guys hold strong and say, "its us 5 or nothing," it wouldn't water down the GNR name so much and we probably have a reunion by now.
Nope.
He'd tour with a bunch of guys who agree with him and call it Guns N' Roses.
Instead he cherry picks on his schedule reducing the demand for an all ouy reunion. Maybe nobody see what I am saying.. lol.
They mutually held their own up to 2006, when Izzy started touring w/ Axl. Then Duff started doing it some years later. In the intervening time, Ax has said how it'd go for him.
I could see doing a song or so on the side with Izzy [Stradlin] or having him out [on tour] again. I'm not so comfortable with doing anything having more than one of the alumni. Maybe something with Duff [McKagan], but that's it.
I agree the whole RRHOF incident and its aftermath have made things even more awkward than before. First, there was the ambiguous Axl ('this is (the fans') victory'), then he said no. Then Izzy said no. Then the others performed. Then Izzy played with Axl and Guns. Now, Duff plays with Guns. Axl terms all the way, either Izzy or Duff, one at a time.

But what's much worse, and even pathetic is that Axl is now trying to sell his shows with Duff. I know that it's been a nostalgia cash grab for years, but hey - reunite the whole band or fuck off.
I personally think (not know) this situation is more like Izzy coming back to the UYI tour. Tommy has a big Mats gig, he's taking it. Ax replaces Tommy temporarily with Duff. If that sells more tickets, that's their fortune.

Guess the rumors about someone seeing Duff's visa were correct (ain't that stalking?). Based on his Tweet, he's looking to do the following dates;
April 6th, 2014: Buenos Aires, Argentina @ Estadio Ferro
April 9th, 2014: Asunción, Paraguay @ Jockey Club del Paraguay
April 12th, 2014: La Paz, Bolivia @ Estadio Hernando Siles
April 15th, 2014: Recife, PE, Brazil @ Chevrolet Hall
April 17th, 2014: Fortaleza, CE, Brazil @ Centro de Eventos do Ceará
as Tommy will be doing the Mats shows in Coachella on April 11th and 18th.
If I were boys with Axl and Slash, but more so Slash and Axl wanted to hang out, I would almost have to address the Slash deal with him and get a resolution.
That may be one of Duff's intentions, for all we know. Axl's a very hair-trigger personality and surrounded by his crew wherever. I'd imagine it's hard to get a heart to heart with him, particularly if one's been in his life for less time than Beta. I bet Izzy and Duff are among the guys who can really go deep with him, and if anyone could help Ax rebuild that bridge to Slash, it'd be Duff. Other than that, Duff's probably just seeing it as a possibilty to do some big shows in a Gilby/Izzy situation, get a bag full of money and enjoy the company of his old friend. Axl wants him there, he's entitled to it, so no harm, no foul? At least, there's some honesty there as a nostalgia act.

The original Mirage Comics should be required reading for any Turtle fan.

They age well, you know.

THE Better performance for me. The band's hungry to play it and Axl's in shape. His voice is yet to get to his peak during this tour, but he's all there with the rest of them.
