That's an issue of authenticity.
If bob stinsons had a cigarette and stupid hat it'd be inauthentic.
And if DJ hadn't, it'd be inauthentic for him.
I wouldn't walk out on stage looking like DJ either. That's not me. I do play live now and then n when I do I make an effort to wear bright colors and cut my fucking hair so that I don't look like just another poseur.
That said, I don't think DJ is a poseur, I think he lives and breathes the image you see on stage just as Bob used live and breathe his.
When you see DJ live, you just know. He is authentic.

The 2004 remix version.
We talking about the song now or the guys ability to rock?
Here's his take on stonehenge:

You seem to forget that DJ didn't collect 20 wrappers and join GNR. He came up through a club scene.
He has worked his ass off. He is also one HELL of a producer.
He's co-produced Drowning Pool, Sixx AM, Motley,... neil diamond. These are all hard hitters.
Anyone heard SOLA? That album sounds better than a anything Bob rock ever did with Motley.
He's Axl's wet dream. He's basically Slash Lite + Pro Tools Wizard.
I think he's written some very good rock n roll over his carrer.
Genuinely interesting and strange compositions with a twisted nightmarish thing goin in. Tim Burton's Baby Slash maybe would be a good description.

I understand that people, including you and me, experience music subjectively through their own beliefs and biases.
Also that you and me could both be at the same concert and have two totally different experiences.
Music is subjective. You can't objectify musical experience.
Also that assuming you're opinion is fact, and that everyone should see that is the quickest way to a headache

Also great interview. Good to hear him saying that he chatted to Axl about one of the stories in the book. Mended bridges. heart warming stuff

that's the vibe i get from him ^ tho i do detect some rancour still exists from time to time. understandable.
just ftr - it's gig week in bfast this week
you can go see the answer & therapy? together for £16
ash, the divine comedy & the undertones are sharing a bill for charity, each playing thru one of their classic albums (ash doing 1977) all for the same price as loadedin fact, out of the hundreds of gigs this week, the single concert more expensive than duff is elvis costello. everything else is below duff's asking price except for the charity show which is the same price. & is for charity.
See the problem there is that The Answer are better than Loaded. Therapy? are probably on par with GNR Ash are better than loaded the undertones are about as good as loaded and the divine comedy are just fucking great fun.

I can't believe anybody would argue differently to be honest.
you're a funny guy
but how can anyone pass assessment on the gig without hearing a note of the show or experiencing the energy in the room?
you're only guessing - boring setlist, same tricks as always yada yada yada
but that's guessing or assuming. how can anyone be more objective over something they didn't even experience?i know where you're coming from, & your RiR example is correct in that regard. but that was different as we all could experience it & judge for ourselves. how can you judge it honestly & objectively unless you've got some primary evidence?
& you can't assume "the guy at home has a less emotional response & is clearly more objective" cause the guy @ home could be a lunatic.
You're 100% right. The guy at home did NOT experience the show, so he is in NO position to make a judgement about the quality of the show in any way, shape or form. I honestly can't believe that anyone would argue against THAT. You just can't.

Exactly. Just as importantly though.
Music isn't meant to be objective. Never has been. Never will be.
Having an objective view on a Rock n Roll show is like sleeping with your girlfriend all the while taking perfectly precise measurements of her silence to moan ration and pupil dilation in order to post objectively about it online later.

He's not in the band. He has zero wrting credits on the album. I'm guessing he doesn't even appear on the record (though I don't recall the timing of it all). That's not the guy you want representing the band, unless you want to cement the idea that it isn't really a band at all.
I don't mind DJ. I don't. I get that he is media savvy to a point, but he also says some stupid shit and spends too much time plugging things other than GnR.
I'm fairly sure I didn't suggest two guys no longer in the band should be doing the interview. Ignoring that fact, I didn't suggest someone that has poor communication skills should do the interview either.
?
Cool opinion bro.
Now back to our regularly scheduled programing.
