#961 Re: Guns N' Roses » Update from Fernando » 652 weeks ago

Actually, I wouldn't be so sure. Remember the infamous tweet that appeared just a few weeks before the Reading/Leeds fiasco in 2010? "All upcoming Guns N' Roses dates are officially cancelled. Please contact your place of purchase for any refunds." The Guns camp said Ax's account was hacked, but seriously - if we'd be talking about a more, erm, balanced artist like Trent Reznor, I'd be inclined to believe it.

But the bat-shit crazy Axl is easy to see as tweeting such a thing without a second thought while feeling down. If you look at his account, a lot of the more controversial tweets (like his Madison rant) have been removed. I wouldn't be surprised if Beta made him turn over his password to avoid such slipups in the future. Good for them, I say.

George Clooney recently offered some thought-out points on celebrity tweeting:

"If you’re famous, I don’t—for the life of me—I don’t understand why any famous person would ever be on Twitter. Why on God’s green earth would you be on Twitter? Because first of all, the worst thing you can do is make yourself more available, right? Because you’re going to be available to everybody. But also Twitter.

So one drunken night, you come home and you’ve had two too many drinks and you’re watching TV and somebody pisses you off, and you go ‘Ehhhhh’ and fight back. And you go to sleep, and you wake up in the morning and your career is over. Or you’re an asshole. Or all the things you might think in the quiet of your drunken evening are suddenly blasted around the entire world before you wake up." - Esq

#962 Re: Guns N' Roses » Leaked GN'R Songs Thread » 652 weeks ago

Probably so. The point remains, I find it amusing that two people who work on the same project, unrelated to each other, describe their work in an exact same way. The most obvious connection between them two is Axl, so the phrase could've originated from him in this context.

#963 Re: Guns N' Roses » Leaked GN'R Songs Thread » 652 weeks ago

Someone @MyGNR met Ron recently at a Jakarta gtr clinic and asked him about Going Down.

Why don't you play some fresh GN'R stuff, like Atlas Shrugged or GD, or OMG?

Ron wrote:

Well, GN'R are Axl's stuff, and I don't wanna get into trouble by playing someone's stuff. Its just not mine. Well, the opening was made with me and robin and bucket tinkering it *play the intro of GoingDown song* well, I am not supposed to say anything about the leaks, but, thats what i actually do, I talk, I break Axl's ball right now.

Do you contribute much on CD album?

Ron wrote:

not quite, the songs were done, and my job is only creating Ice and Fire in several songs.

Will [Going Down] be released officialy?

Ron wrote:

yeah, hopefully. It will be released, trust me.

What happened to GNR in the first half of 2011? Guns seems so quiet, and I notice Axl is weaker than before.

Ron wrote:

we do nothing. I do my own stuff, and so the other band members. Oh, really axl is weaker? lets see in 2014 what he turns to. (this is interesting for me, could the 2013 breaks let Axl do some excersice and get him fit again?)

His English is a bit off, but what the gist of Going Down is that Robin, Bucket and Ron all contributed to it at various points. This makes it a song from the early naughties, the Better/Sorry/Shackler -era.

Funny how Ron mentions Fire and Ice  - Paul Buckmaster used the exact same words to describe the orchestrations he did for CD. Must be an Axl idiom big_smile

The production company is, again, promising the release to be imminent. Maybe this is the info Fernando was hinting at?

Good job with the GNR dvd.... LOL

And he's been stroking Red publicly for some time now, too. Guess he feels they're kindred spirits as Pumpkins has also developed from a band to a frontman with his backing band.

Billy Corgan wrote:

I think Axl Rose is one of the best rock singers, ever. Period. Would be honored to write a song with him.

I loved the last Guns N’ Roses album, you know what I mean? And unfortunately when they were out touring on that record, I didn’t get a chance to see them. But I would have gone.

Billy Corgan, on RRHOF wrote:

"I appreciate the position Axl was in and why he didn't wanna go," Corgan said. "I think he felt like he was being set up. He was wise not to go because he would've come out [looking] like a spoilsport. He didn't want to play nice with the old team. And he obviously has his personal reasons."

He added, "Also, the minute he gets up on stage with the original band, then everything else he does that isn't that… it's almost as if he's trying not do something and he's not been doing it for many years. So i can understand why Axl didn't want that put on him."

Here's Xenogenesis, a 12-minute short film/FX showreel Cameron and friends did back in '78. Starring later T2 cowriter William Wisher as a hapless leading man, it's essentially the Ripley/Queen fight from Aliens. The stopmotion work they did at the time is pretty outstanding, considering the technology of the time. It still holds out reasonably well and is of certain historical interest.

#967 Re: The Sunset Strip » The Terminator » 653 weeks ago

What I was referring to was the reality that art goes out the window at a certain financial mark, and it's time to do something that'll surely get into the crowds. Avatar doesn't just accidentally draw parallels to Pocahontas; a movie that expensive needs a story that will help justify the enormous cost and make enormous profit.

Having said that, as case evidence for Cameron to lean on to the big bucks, I give you A Crowded Room, a minor drama budgeted for a modest million dollars or so in the early 90s. Based on the story of Billy Milligan,

the subject of a highly publicized court case in Ohio in the late 1970s. After having committed several felonies including armed robbery, he was arrested for three rapes on the Ohio State University campus. In the course of preparing his defense, psychologists diagnosed Milligan with multiple personality disorder. His lawyers pleaded insanity, claiming that two of his alternate personalities committed the crimes without Milligan's being aware of it. He was the first person diagnosed with multiple personality disorder to raise such a defense.

- Wikipedia

Personally, I enjoyed the script. It was a streamlined account of what could easily be a very jumbled story. Noble, even. Had Cameron done it around or after T2, he would've certainly challenged himself as a storyteller in a completely different way. No FX, no grandeur, just people.

#968 Re: The Sunset Strip » The Terminator » 654 weeks ago

Cameron's best?

Personally, I'd war myself in between The Terminator and The Abyss. T2, True Lies and Avatar are competent, even if they make concessions movies of that scale simply have to make in order to attract the big crowds; namely childish plots and black/white moral compasses. This doesn't take anything away from the skill level involved in them, just saying Cameron would be a smart enough fellow to make smarter movies, if they'd let him.

I've always felt indifferent towards Aliens, for whatever reason. Can see why people like it, but it just fails to grab hold of me. Funny, that.

A very interesting take on the life and times of Axl, as seen by a Christian fan. Whilst some may shirk at the first mention of Biblical vocabulary, the article is actually quite poignant and keeps the religion on the backseat, mostly. As a viewpoint, it's certainly different and many of the observations the author puts out while summing up the long road to Chinese Democracy as well as various Guns lyrics are interesting on their own right.

#970 Guns N' Roses » Axl Topps trading cards - Signed? Maybe. » 654 weeks ago

Axl's set for another payday and a collectors' item, if he can be arsed to sign his Heavy Metal trading cards. Topps collectors are now given their share of what GNR fans refer to as 'business as usual'. 16
HeavyMetalAuto_AxlWM.jpg

For better or for worse I'm a product of the 80's.  I've been collecting the Topps 2013 Archives Heavy Metal Cards that came out.  I have gotten everyone except one. Wanna guess which one out of the 10 that were announced hasn't been made available?

That right - Axl Rose

I have 2 redemption cards for Axl.  I called Topps to see if he might have signed the cards as of yet.  After almost 40 minutes on hold I was informed that they weren't sure.  I asked if they believed he would sign the cards they advertised and was informed that they will make every attempt to get them signed (if he hasn't already) but there could be "scheduling conflicts" that would make it impossible.  I asked what they would do if the signatures could not be obtained and was informed they would substitute a card of a similar value and send it out for cards that were redeemed.  When I advised them that the Axl redemption cards sell for between $175 to $400 and what card would they sub in for it I was informed that I could take whatever card they feel has a value they place on the Axl card or I could sell my two cards at those prices.

Why is it that Axl is so freakin' difficult?  It can't be that hard to schedule 1 or 2 hours out of your day to have the Topps person come out and watch you sign 100 cards or less.  Can it?  Really, can it be that hard?

I love Guns but this type of unprofessionalism is what made me run away from the band when shows would start 2+ hours late.  This isn't making it any easier to want to get back into the realm of the band in the near future.

Anybody have any information that is any different on the above?  I love to know if anyone has seen one of the cards in question signed, or had one redeemed and sent back to them.

Out of curiosity, I discussed the Rose redemption issue — I’d so love to call it “The Spaghetti Incident” but it’s not sounding like it’s going to be like that — with a Topps brand manager at the recent National Sports Collectors Convention. As part of a in-depth chat about that card and other goings-on for the company, I was once again assured that a pricey deal was in place, a key portion of it completed, and they were just awaiting a phone call for a finish. (I’d offer more details, but it wasn’t an on-the-record chat for a story — just one to humor my curiosity.)

The wait on Axl has once again begun.
