After all the guessing the Daily Star has finally cracked the late start mystery that has surrounded GNR since 1987. Axl takes a nap before his performance and then oversleeps past the start time. It all makes sense now.

As I said just a report I read on HTGTH. It's a shame the BBC didn't want to venture any further than 30 miles out of London to bring 'full' coverage of Reading and Leeds as it sounds like the Leeds show was considerabley better from GNR's point of view.

Take this FWIW as I saw it at HTGTH but someone at Leeds said the GNR stage setup was still taking place at 9.25 and GNR hit the stage 5 mins later as soon as the roadies were off the stage.

My sister worked as a steward at Leeds festival this weekened. I spoke to her last night when she got back. She said that while she didn't see the show as she had to patrol one of the campsites the comments for GNR were very positive after the show. Now she hates GNR and Axl so she'd take great pleasure in telling me if people were slating them.
Regarding the setlist I actually think this is one of the occasions they should have just done an 06 setlist. At a festival of this size the majority of people aren't there to hear TIL or SOD, they want to hear the old stuff, the classics are the reason GNR get to headline such a festival in the first place and that's what 95% of the crowd want to hear. For these two shows I'd have gone back to opening with Jungle and maybe open the encore with CD (curfew issues aside for a moment). In terms of CD songs, I think CD, Better, IRS and maybe ITW would have been fine filling the rest of the set with oldies. I wouldn't normally champion such a setlist but given the circumstances I think that may have been the best plan.

That's lovely DJ thanks for that.
If it's such a weight on Axls shoulders why not hand over some control to Tommy or anyone else, let them bear some of the burden, it is a 'band' after all.

You want to see something bad ass rock n' roll... the entire band shows up tomorrow, sans Axl, and performs as Guns N' Roses with Tommy on vocals.
Now THAT would be cool.
Fucking rights it would be!
Where have you guys seen anything remotely close to this in the last 48 hours? What I've seen is THE ENTIRE BAND is down with how Axl does business.
All except for Ron. Depending.
Actually Rons last tweet suggested he was with Axl as well this time around, I got the feeling he was drunk but still 'onside'.
Russ I think GNR will show tonight, I think there's been enough tweets since Fri night to suggest the band fully intend to play. Quite what kind of car crash performance we will get remains to be seen...
Stay tuned

The absolute best thing GNR can do now, is show up on time at Leeds and just focus on the music and bring the house down. As I said in the other thread if they wanna challenge the festival organiser then show up on time and then play and play some more, he's got a lot less of a leg to stand on if GNR show up on time and then go over curfew because they keep playing and the crowd are in to it and want more songs. That's the way to challenge this guy, by showing up an hour late they are knotting their own noose.

Well hasn't this all gone tits up since my last post 24 hours ago. To think this time yesterday I was bummed because they weren't showing any live GNR footage
Hopefully they'll still do Leeds, if they care as much about the fans and the music as they say then they'll do it.
Don't know where to start on last nights events really and most of it has been said by others. All I will say is firstly GNR didn't have to be late, they knew the risks so have to take a large portion of the blame for last nights events. Having said that I do question what would have happened had things been a little different. Hypothetically say GNR hit the stage at 9.30 as they're meant to, and the gig's going really well, crowd are really into it etc a standard GNR set is usually over 2 hours anyway which takes them over curfew, what happens then, does the plug still get pulled? Does a band (or just GNR) still get the plug pulled for showing up on time and giving the crowd a marathon headline set to remember or is that ok? A curfew is a curfew after all.

Couldn't hear any booing in the background sounded more like people singing along tbh. It'll all come out in the wash I suppose. Just dissappointing I was looking forward to watching some GNR tonight, this hour long show was basically going to be GNR live and instead we gotta watch filler like what's on now whilst I can hear Axl in the background.

It's not looking good, GNR have been removed from any lists of what bands will be shown over the weekend. They were listed earlier in the day.
What a crock of shit, every other band at the festival gets their performances broadcast but not the main headliner.
Should have known!
