I always thought it was:
"If we ever find it's true, that we have the stregth to choose, our freedom over the chains we held together."
As that gives the phrase more meaning. But maybe it's not!

Madagascar from 2002 came on my minidisc player when I was out running the other week, it blows the album version away.
Personally I think that version would have been the best choice as a first single... but it never even made the album so hey ho

My grasp of the English language must really suck, because it is clear to me on the multi-track vocal, Axl sings "... but in denial, and so afraid" (which makes perfect sense). Also, I'm guessing this booklet couldn't have made it as the official one either, since it says "Gun N' Roses", unless that was a rather sly way of suggesting that there is only a single original "gun" left in the band, even though that "gun" is a actually a Rose.
Agreed that the Rio version stomps the album version.

Yeah, I'd be interested in seeing hi-res scans in Maddy's resolution of the rest of the songs, if it's not too much trouble.
