I wasn't a huge fan of the DNC's convention, seemed geared to a milennial audience with alot of Boomer talent with some youth blended in. A bit cheesy overall. Now that its complete tho, I'm curious to see the RNC's, in hindsight, it's probably a tough creation to do. Bidens speech was good tho, almost back to the old Joe. I'm not sure the debates are as scary or close to a catastrophe as trump hoped it was gonna be.

I thought itd be cool if they included like little 5 minute videos about small towns, cities etc done by like YT creators or something. Like mini-Netflix docs or 30 for 30s. As I said tho, curious to see what the RNC has in store.

I only watched bits and pieces. I don’t get too excited about these conventions and the debates that are coming up. There’s no substance to them anymore. For ‘fun’ I’ll put myself a glass of whiskey and watch old debates with Reagan and Carter and Ford...etc...

They actually answered the questions back then. No one really does anymore. Trump is the best example of that and proof that no one really cares about these debates. It should be considered in poor taste and reflective of the quality of a candidate if they can’t or won’t answer a question.

It’s all show and no substance. The convention used to be about officially nominating a candidate. Now it’s all about presenting some infomercial.

I’ve been seeing some pictures of the Republican set up. Is it true the my pillow guy will be speaking? And a number of other randos like that couple who stood outside their house with guns while protesters walked by?

Yeah I just located the list, it’s a long list of people I’ve never heard of before. And I guess Trump will speak every night.

They had to do that. There's enough frustration from the youth vote and the far left fringe that they had to do something to keep them on board. Trump's election in 2016 proved that Republicans are willing to overlook a LOT as long as the person wears the right coat. The Democrats are afraid (rightfully) that they'll lose the left fringes, so in a way they're trying to get them to do the same thing.

The difference is that the 2016 GOP appealed to the fringe while correctly assuming the more centrist members would stay on board; the 2020 Democrats are appealing to the center while assuming the fringe would stay on board. They're trying to throw their overlooked group a bone to make sure they stay.

I just read a great article today, and before I link to it, I'd like to pose a question.

Republican members: What does your party stand for? What does it believe? What does it mean to be a Republican?

As a centrist libertarian who has at times after approaching the age of reason been associated with both the Democrats and Republicans, I'm honestly unable to define it, so I'd like your input.

You're not going to get much of a response to this for a few reasons.  One is that there are few Republicans (or at least people that have declared Republican) on this board.  Secondly as soon as someone posts something even remotely pro-Republican, they get immediately blasted by the left.  It's how it happens in the real world too, so most people that are even Libertarian choose to stay quiet in our cancel culture world we live in.

If a Republican (a regular voter at least) were to answer the question, they are for keeping what they have, which is better than what the Democrats want them to have.

The good news is those people vote.  So while the polls keep saying whatever the polls say, people still show up.  Just because they don't want to deal with getting blasted on social media doesn't mean they don't exist.

Neither party stands for anything these days other than getting more power by whatever means necessary.  That's the answer to your question that nobody will give you.  The Democrats will pretend they care about the people (they don't) and the Republicans won't pretend to care about the people (at least not the middle class), they will just ignore them.  Democrats will continue to screw their own voters; their voters will continue to vote for them anyway even though they do nothing to improve their lives.  It's one giant clusterfuck.

Somehow the Democratic platform has evolved into "We've proven we can't make your lives better, but we can make sure people better off than you (but not the rich because well, we're rich too) are dragged down to your level" and it's seemingly working.  Somewhat fascinating to watch, but troubling.  Eventually the regular people will figure it out; or socialism will ultimately destroy what's left of the country (like it does everywhere) and nobody will like what happens after that.  Republican voters are voting against that.

The mythical youth vote.

Biden is having to appease the left while promising to be moderate, but Bernie is promising to fight Biden the day after the election to make him go far left. So if Biden wins, we'll see at least two years of democrats fighting each other for power. That's not a winning formula. I'm seeing more younger moderate/libertarian Republicans now teaming up with anti cancel culture liberals who are becoming more and more anti woke (Greenwald, Taibi), even with feminists and gays who are fighting against the transgender movement. The next two years are going to be very interesting.

Well, look at the GOP since 2000 really.   W was a Reagan throwback to 'the good ole days' that was a disaster of a presidency that ended with an economy in free fall. Since then?  Moderate/borderline liberal John McCain, Mitt Romney, and train wreck donal trump who torpedo'd the RNC primary.  Who else, oh Mitch McConell.

Not exactly a breath of fresh air.  Nikki Haley obviously is a 2024 candidate, Ben Sasse seems intelligent, myb worth keeping an eye on.  But I wouldn't pose Biden as some ideology, he's more just get trumpf the F outta there then have everyone run again in 2024.

The real answer to this question is that Trump's iteration of the Republican Party doesn't stand for much. Just look at all the die hard Trumpies in Congress right now who shit all over Trump until he was the nominee. Now they all kiss the ring.

This is a reality show with little substance or direction. It just happens to be exactly what America wants right now. The only real accomplishment was more tax cuts for the super rich and corporations. The average person saved a couple hundred bucks a year and many considered that an accomplishment of some sort.

From the misinformation campaigns to the contradicting tweets and outright lies, it's smoke and mirrors.

It's not their fault that neither party does anything to recruit them or really has much to offer them.
