In my opinion. Axls Voice is better on the 06 KOHD though Buckets solo on the 02 and the band in general played it with a much superior feel. In 02 it was tight 06 was more sloppy Jam type stuff. As if it hadnt been rehearsed

So among all of you can we all agree that overall out of all the guitarists on CD that Buckethead would be considered the 1st lead guitarist. (I'm looking at it like an orchestra. You have the 1st row of clarinet players than the 2nd row of clarinet players and so forth-------lolo

Something tells me Axl did all the lyrics, and the other credits were for the instrumental writing.

I don't get why solos don't get writing credits. This I love and November Rain wouldn't be the same songs without those solos, yet Finck and Slash don't get credits for them.

Agreed.

Axl shouldn't have let Finck come back though.  Bucket was none too happy when he was all set to tour as the lead guitarist, and Finck showed up as if nothing happened and wanted back in.  Things may have been different, and for the better.

I think thats a conscious ethical decision. The minute you take something so artfull as the guitar solo in a song llike Novenber Rain or This I Love and you attribute it a writting credit you are commodotizing the Art. Its bad enough Songs are comodotized to the extent they are already but to do this would lead to even more comercialisation of the that aspect of the music.

Its ok to give a credit if the Solo is by a special guest not part of the band.
If guitar solo credits were given within a band you would find the following phenomenon.

Pop bands like Fall Out Boy 30 seconds to Mars etc would start writing artless solos that act as nothing more as song hooks so that the can get that extra song credit and more $$ as a result. Every god damn song on the radio would have a shitty  30 second solo put together by a pro tools engineer that is there for no other reason than to get more money for whoever in the band wrote it.

They would be artlessly engineered to be "catchy" and make teenage girls with pig tails and pussy cat dolls posters wana dance and buy the music

It would take the emotion and heart from the guitar solo as an art form. (I believe its an Art Form) In a few years the guitar solo would be "Outdated" in the mainstream and laughed at as an unfashionable Relic of times gone by.

-I wouldn't be surprised if bands like poison and Ratt and warrant ( you know the types) were giving guitar solo credits in the 80s cbeause the paragraph above seems to highlight many grunge folks reaction to the Guitar solo -

I think a lot of artists are aware of this effect it could have and so don't give solo credits out of good ethics.

If your truly proud of your work why would you need some kind of credit that serves only as a small monetary boost. If you find yourself in that position (historically speaking) you are probably already earning bucket loads of money (at least up until the internet music age anyway) so why desecrate the art "for a few dollars more"

are you kidding me? your criticism isn't directed at solos, your criticism is leveled at songwriting credits in general.

I don't see how wanting credit for writing an integral part of the song is commercializing it. the solo to NR is as memorable as anything else in that song, my question is why slash isn't given credit whereas axl is. the song isn't the same without that solo, even bucket and bumble play the solo pretty much note for note.

the two solos i mentioned above are climaxes of the song, not just tacked on, anyway, so I don't see where you got half of the stuff you were saying.

So if someone writes new verses for a song, or adds a new section to it, they shouldn't get due credit, because it would amount to "commodotizing" it?
