While the Metal Show interview wasn't a great one, I definitely thought that it was a fun one. It was good to see Axl taking part in something like that after all these years. As much as certain parts annoyed some of the diehards, I'm sure it more than made up for it by repairing his image with some of the casuals. As everyone's already said, Axl came across pretty likable. So you've got to think about the big picture.

You make some good points.  I was thinking something similar about how things like this are great PR for Axl and if he can do more of them they certainly could go a long way towards repairing his image.

Yes the interviewers came accross as muppets, but importantly Axl came accross looking like a good guy, funny, interesting and prepared to talk.  I know he seems to hate doing interviews in the past but IMO he should get out and do a few more on this tour whilst he's on a roll.  It can only be potentially positive for him, I mean he gets bashed now as it is in the press, so whats the worse case scenario if an interview goes bad, they continue to dish up what he currently gets.  So what!  But the potential upside if it goes well.....

Yeah I thought it was strange he sad "yet" too in regards  to a video. That almost implies there is one to come?

Yeah that was a perfect opportunity to follow up with another question about the Better video with Lars in it and ask what happened to that then?

#1056 Re: Guns N' Roses » That Metal Show, Trunk/GN'R Discussion » 756 weeks ago

Yeah it seems like he actually wants to be out there touring. It's been quite a while since we have seen that Axl. It's good stuff!

Far out what a bunch of dickheads these TMS guys are.  As others have said where were the follow up questions to some of the answers Axl gave? I don't mean giving him the third degree I just mean asking glaring following up questions to Axl's responses.  They were weak as piss.

Follow up type questions:

What happened in Abu Dhabi?
Would you get up on stage with Slash et al if inducted into the RNRHOH? Would you play music with them if requested?
Are you looking at writing completely new stuff with the current lineup or would you get them to tweak further existing songs you already have from the CD sessions?
Would you consider substituting more illusion songs into the set?

Etc etc etc.  These are not wanker questions either, just reasonable ones.

Shame because it's great hearing Axl talk. He genuinely is interesting to listen to and seems like a good guy. I also wanna hear what the guy has to say. Also as others said he seemed pretty open to talk about a lot of stuff and on a more in-depth level than the superficial interview provided. I felt for DJ too he must have felt like he was on a date with another couple and he had to sit and watch while the other dude gets a head job.

^ Yeah maybe Axl is finally getting to the place Slash and Duff got to quite a while ago.  Broadly speaking they don't really seem to care about all the shit and who said what, they also aren't hanging out for a reunion.  Sure if it was offered on the right terms they would probably do it.  But they each have their own careers and directions now so they aren't hanging out for Axl.

Seems like Axl might be in that place FINALLY too where he can just focus on what he is doing and ignore the other guys, or not look at it like a fight or a competition.  Just enjoy his version of GNR and what he is doing.

#1060 Re: Guns N' Roses » That Metal Show, Trunk/GN'R Discussion » 756 weeks ago

My understanding is that was during the time Alan Niven was trying get David Geffen to renegotiate GNR's contract with Geffen. David Geffen refused.

Niven basically told Geffen to fuck himself then and that he won't get the albums and they will go on tour instead and make money. Bare in mind this is also during the time that David Geffen is trying to sell his company too. He wanted those records out and selling because that increased the sale price.

Geffen refused to budge thinking they couldn't tour without an album, so Niven booked the  first part of that tour and the tickets started selling like hotcakes. Geffen saw what was happening and finally relented to renogitating. That's why they had started touring before the album was finished.

Perhaps Axl is grumbling about that? Fuck knows why as it basically meant massively more dollars for him and financial security.  But don't let the details get in the way of a good story....

Oh yeah Axl then sacked Niven after he got Geffen to renegotiate. Nice!

That comment about Ax being responsible for Slash if he dies sounds like a Goldstein comment.
