Agreed again, and even in the China Exchange interview, Axl alludes to how much time was wasted by the label fucking him over. Too many people needed Chinese to be huge to save their jobs, but Axl gets the blame.
I agree that the 2000-2001 era album shoud've dropped sometime during the aborted 2002-03 tour that never made it to 2003. Drop the album in the summer of 2002 when they were hitting the festival circuit in Europe, then hit the ground running at the 2002 VMA's. Axl might've been a train wreck, but Madagascar was magical at the 2002 VMA's. WTTJ & PC blew, but there was a passion in his voice & eyes when he sang that song post-9/11. Had it been handled better, it could've been a real moment. But it was too secretive and too rushed, and everyone was left with a feeling of premature ejaculaton.
As for the film score, depending on what Axl wants to do, will determine whether he could get that job. Hoping to do a Hans Zimmer-esque score on film on the level of Pirates of the Carribean V or Justice League... ain't gonna happen.
But so many small independent movies look for gimmicky guys to capture certain sounds. If Axl was even remotely into synthwave or any of that scene from the 80's, the demand for that right now is big in the cult scene. Even John Carpenter, a former A-list directing name, is now devoting his time to it.
In other words, if Axl wanted to hammer out something ala Moby in Heat or something like Steve Moore with The Guest... there's an independent film out there, potentially horror film, with his name on it 'Music By AXL'
It's just a matter of if he wants to seriously do it or not. They'd actually jump to have a name or a gimmick to push their film with. But a big Hollywood production like when he toyed around with the idea of scoring that Robin Williams flick? Yeah... that ship has sailed.
I wonder if Axl semi-retires from rock, if he would ever consider scoring a television series. It'd probably be a great job to test his skills. Jump in, hammer it out in a week. Off to the next episode.
He could really master the craft working a TV series. Then maybe build up to bigger and bigger film and build his name. Or the Carpenter route and just record instrumental albums.
I think Axl, before he dies, will record and release at least ONE instrumental album as a solo artist. Whether it's released as such, or it's a score. I think it happens at some point.

Watched this the other day, and Axl definitely seemed to have to adjust to Pang's way of operating an interview. He seemed very crass at times, not tactful, but at other times Pang seemed genuinely engaged and honest. Pang was more all over the place than Axl himself. The fans in attendence asked VERY good questions for fans, and frankly put the big three forums to fucking shame over their childish, ignorant, and lame questions from several years ago.
Axl didn't seem all that interested in a GN'R album, despite others saying otherwise. Axl seemed more interested in an AC/DC album or possible instrumental work, which kinda shocked me.
Another one of the highlights is his highlighting of the 2009-14 band, basically confirming what DJ said was true. Axl adored the 2009-14 lineup, and was really happy with that lineup, and that the dismantling of it basically came as a shock. Axl's description of it seems to quasi-confirm that Axl did at one point consider a Slash/DJ combo in regards to the reunion.
Loved Axl's response about the Axl book. Confirmed alot of what I suspected being able to study his face. Axl seemed heartfelt and genuinely hurt by what Slash wrote in his book. Axl seemed to let down his guard here and give a natural reaction to how he felt about Slash at the time, and that was Axl felt Slash not only didn't state facts, but made up entire parts of his book.
A conspiracy-minded person could correlate Weiland's comments about the reunion in 2006 connect here somewhat. The heat was cooling between the two then, but with the book release in 2007, Axl being hurt badly then by what he saw as personal lies, and the reverse course of "he's a cancer" in 2009... all is starting to look clearer.
Sad that Slash feeling the need to portray Axl as an evil villain, to help Slash not look stupid... sad we all lost out on 20 years of great rock music over something so petty.
Axl giving props to Slash was a bit of a shock as well... Slash going out of his way to re-record Chinese songs for the tour as well as work with the vault... me thinks this is Slash's way of apologizing to Axl about the way things went down over the last 20 years. Kudos to Axl for thanking him.
I also noticed Axl touched on the vocal issues at one point, referring to his Chinese-era voice as "clean vocal". Axl claimed he intentionally sang that way in order to change his vocal and challenge himself. He also admitted it wasn't as warmly received as he thought it'd be, people obviously missing his old voice.
His reasoning imo though is bullshit. I don't think the rasp has always been there, he just chooses not to use it. I think Axl gets vocally lazy, and even in the interview he admitted he has a vocal coach on tour with him with AC/DC for the first time in 20 years. I think Axl's quitting of chain smoking had a HUGE affect on the decline of his rasp since 1993. imho

He's on top of the world again. The days of the media jokes and other shit are ancient history.
The world always wanted to embrace him again.......now they get to.
I never bought the media conspiracy. He's always been loved or people love to hate him. Always one of the world's most recognizable figures....up there with Jordan, Ali, US presidents, etc. The guy can fart and it make yahoo/google news. In the CD era, he just wasn't taken seriously and he never engaged properly with the media/fans.
Even though he's not constantly doing interviews or anything of that nature, his position in the world is evolving and morphing back to what it was in the early-mid 90s but without the controversy.
Its the greatest time to be a GNR fan. The sky is the limit and I hope he continues to enjoy it. He's back on his throne where he always belonged. Everything we've seen this year is everything that was missing 1999-2015....and I'm not just talking about Slash and Duff.
Ummm yeah... and no. I DO buy the media conspiracy. Axl in alot of ways is like Trump. A very polarizing figure. Some love him. Some hate him. But right now a decision has been made by the masses to love him, both Axl & Trump. Anybody who comes after them is going to get a huge negative reaction back from a certain camp, and right now certain outlets are skiddish to do so. They're just too popular.
Axl was NOT in this position in the early 90's. The rise of grunge, the popularity of Cobain who had it out of him and was an attention seeker who picked on him to get attention, and the media loved creating controversy around Axl. From One in a Million, to the Freddie Mercury Tribute show (even today Axl gasps by the media when it's brought up, almost as if bracing himself for what comes next), then the Oprah shit in the mid-90's, accusations of sexual abuse by Erin & Steph, the drudging up of his past & childhood by the media. What made him a monster, blah blah blah.
People still loved him. But the media... the media are the media. It's like The Dark Knight. The media will make Axl whatever they NEED him to do be. Right now rock needs a shot in the arm, and to many millions Axl & Slash and the return of the last great rock band to roam the earth is the hero the people WANT.
I hate to say this, but as soon as the news gets slow, and GN'R slows down, and the music press ain't pressin' as much, suddenly the PC culture will go back and listen to GN'R Lies on Spotify and everything will come back and start all over again, and in this PC culture ... he'll be dead and done.
I'm just waiting, sadly.
The media loves to build you up, then tear you back down. Michael Jackson. Axl Rose. Britney Spears. Justin Bieber...

Agreed. I was shocked more Bon-era songs weren't busted out, but then again most of their hit singles came with Brian I believe. Even though the lyrics are cheesy, i'd like to hear Axl do Big Gun at least once, just as an in-joke to GN'R.
However, no matter to who thinks i'm a dick on this, if Axl fails to release any original material during this final run at that the top, he is a failure imo as a musician. Not that it takes away from what he's done, but he'll have a Brian Bosworth-type legacy, but for rock music. Big ego, big start when he was young, supposed to set the world on fire, and then.... faded away into irrelevance. Then to get a 2nd chance in 2006, and now a 3rd chance in 2016, and to squander it by not releases more material to a starved fanbase... inexcusable.
When I saw the China Exchange interview, he didn't strike me as a man in a hurry to put out new GN'R music. He seemed way more interested in new AC/DC music.
I don't know if he'll ever get to do a film score, but he could go the John Carpenter-route. Carpenter is done as a director, he knows it, so instead after influencing a generation of synth music fans, Carpenter just records music albums now as a mock film score. And he's put out two records in two years, plus an EP of re-records. He seems to be re-energized at 68, and recently agreed to return to the "Halloween" franchise to produce & score the next sequel, ala Halloween II & III.
Axl in my mind could go this route after this next run. Put out a GN'R-Telephantasm this year. Put out a new GN'R album next year. An AC/DC record the year after that. Tour, and maybe wrap up with at least one more GN'R, and possibly an additional AC/DC work of some sort.
Then just straight up become an instrumental artist. Record albums in the style of film scores, piano/synth, whatever floats his boat. Release them, and just tour the avant-garde film score scene, whether he's recording Carpenter tracks, Beltrami tracks, John Williams tracks, Hans Zimmer tracks... whatever he wants to do.
Axl could do all that, and still have 20-30 years to be Ennio Morricone is that's his life's dream. Morricone just got done with that Hateful Eight score, and Morricone is like 84 years old.

One interesting concept for an Orlando-themed shirt (not that they could get the rights), would be an artist-rendering of Axl... as Mickey Mouse.
Then the subtitle... "FULL MICKEY TONIGHT!"
GUNS N' ROSES
Orlando 2016
Only the diehards of the past decade would get that Axl in-joke! Plus, it'd be so funny to the diehards, it'd probably become a collector's item.

Apparently it's exclusive to you. I can't find it anywhere online.

Missed most of this, but did hear a clip here and there and thought Axl killed it. I do not think Brian Johnson is coming back. Angus & Cliff look re-energized, especially Angus, and Angus looks like he's ready to go another 10-15 years. Can't do that with Brian. Can do that with Axl, even though I personally (and don't shoot me) feel that these tours are Axl's last gasp of a half-way decent voice. I just don't see where he can keep up with the pace he's currently been on. Although AC/DC are known for taking extended breaks, and Axl could do GN'R during that time. Then rest GN'R during the AC/DC time.
Personally, of what i've heard throughout this summer... I think Axl actually sounded better with AC/DC than GN'R.

It's still a mindfuck for me to see all this stuff. Axl at rehearsal? Axl & Slash together again? Axl happy?
I gotta be honest, I haven't see Axl this thrilled to be alive and in the business since the 1988 videos when they were all hungry and all hitting and Axl looked thrilled to be alive.
Then the fall by 1989, and he never really recovered. I haven't seen him in this good of spirits since the AFD days.

Coolest merch item yet. It shows how much thought they have put into this tour. Each region gets its own unique treats.
Noticed the Detroit-centric poster in GNR's official Behind-The-Scenes video that was posted (btw, coolest thing since UYI tour)
And ya know James... my first thought was -- FINALLY -- they took a cue from Soundgarden/Alice In Chains/Pearl Jam.
Those Seattle three have been doing these really cool, local artist, local-type Limited Edition posters for years, and usually -- they're great.
Really REALLY cool that GN'R has picked up on it. Hopefully like PJ & SG they'll start selling them on the website.
I wonder if the Orlando one will be Florida-themed, or some sort of Gay Pride-tribute for the massacre.
Either way -- i'm gettin' one.

Bromero and I are going to this.
Why doesn't Bromero post as much anymore?
Used to love that dude.
