It was Axl, wasn't it. The madman.
My thoughts exactly.
The most expensive album ever made and the demos sound like shite. By this I mean, sound editing. Axl's priorities and choices as a producer. Timeline editing and rudimentary transitions are not rocket science. But some bits sound like Fernando took the project files home and merged the parts Axl liked in different takes.
Worse, those bits hardly gel together into a fluid song. Going Down had a similar thing with a Ron solo coming out of nowhere, and sounding like it. The closing IRS solo, on the finished album, has that effect, too. It was an insanely expensive album production, because it was bleeding money. Had Axl been more frugal, he would've gotten the same end result, artistically and technically, with less hassle.
All that care into recording, and they dropped the ball in postproduction.

Overbearing, overproduced. Absurd, absurd. There are cute bits musically, here and there, but the mainline is overstuffed by the man's insistence to cover three decades of musical styles in as many minutes.
Hate to say this, but if CD2 sounds anything like this (meaning it was re-re-re-recorded by Caram & co, instead of Beavan's raw sounds), we may have dodged a bullet there. Given the mess these versions of these songs became, it may be better to imagine what could've been.
Those clips suggest an unpleasant possibility that the songs have not aged well, or worse, the release candidates were never that hot to begin with.

So, half-assed versions of Silk Worms and OMG leaked?
Thrilling. Wake me up when Atlas surfaces.

Was mainly refering to the workplace environment. The Lebeis et al have been known go into histrionics to reflect the boss. There's been infighting and members bailing off because of the no-communication and amateur hour management.
But sure, Axl's got chops as a singer-songwriter, so he can deliver if the stars align. It's a matter of nerve rather than talent.

It's curious that we could see this but no one near Axl dared tell him.
Working for Axl in the CD era was bit like the Trump White House.
You have money spent on gear, personnel, facilities. It's the genuine article. But, the leading man is hard to reach and hard to argue against. Plus, he fires people (and may also re-hire them the next day). If you keep your mouth shut and are happy to loaf around your working hours in some nights, and endure huge hours at times, this is your gig. The job takes a bite out of anyone because of the constant insecurity and general lack of direction. Things are picked and taped in on a whim. Tours are booked and scuppered. Chaos. Circus. Cash.
But that can all end if you cross the boss at the wrong time.

This just in, Axl validates Velvet Revolver. In their 20-year feud, Slash has proven himself "the stronger".
Fernando should notice the irony of it all by serving as the messenger. But good on Axl, a nod to Scott, too.

Very plain words and a telling choice of publication. "We disagreed on money."
Of course, tis possible Izzy's looking at a big payday for one-offs.
The word is he and Adler were offered peanuts, and Izzy called BS.

When I first heard TIL, I wondered, did he actually sing,
And now it seems that I / gave up my goose to fry

Hey Buzz,
How do you rate Axl's voice based on those 5 shows?

I'd say a lot of it is about cajoling Axl to do something besides touring. They now have more efficient handlers, incl. top-flight crew from the UYI tour (e.g. tour manager Opie, instead of Del James). The touring budget is bigger and the scale of the stage show is now more to Axl's liking. That surely allows for him to focus on performing more. Convincing him further takes a while, as he's known to be such a hair-trigger - and any results are up for grabs.
